CALEB WAS CONFLICTED WITH EMOTIONS. THE MOST OF HIM KNEW THAT HE SHOULDNT SYMPATHISE WITH WHO HE HAD BEEN TRYING TO HATE but it was hard when the person has a big heart
Him and anita continued putting books away in silence until Caleb grabbed her arms and moved her to the sides
Anita opened her mouth and went to protest but Caleb's glare stopped her
"Caleb? What are you doing?" The boy let go of her arms and ran his hands through his hair anxiously
"Why didn't you tell anyone?" He blurted and anita tilted her head confused
"Why didn't you tell anyone.." he lowered his voice
"That I kissed a guy. Especially after I blackmailed you" anita sighed softly and shrugged
"I was never going to out you. You deserve your privacy of liking whoever you want and I was going to respect that. I don't know what your reasoning was for blackmailing me but I still would've never told anyone" her answer seemed to make caleb even more frustrated and upset which was for the most part confusing
"I've been a borderline bully to mostly everyone at school, sleeping with girls all the time. To hide the fact I was gay" he whispered and she nodded allowing him to continue
"And when I kissed Adam at the ball I knew it was you who had been with ryder. That meant that it was you who knew I was gay. I couldn't let you be with ryder cause I figured that maybe our friend groups would merge. And if I was seen with Adam, who everyone knew was gay, I was afraid it would make them suspicious" Anita was almost on the verge of tears. If she had known the whole thing could've gone differently. Tears were fully falling down Caleb's cheeks though
"Caleb, if all you wanted was your secret safe and secured you didn't have to do all of this, I could've actually helped" he sniffled and nodded, turning his face away from her view
"But Caleb. When Adam came out, everyone was so supportive of him, no one ever came close to being rude.. well except you" he let out a small chuckle
"My point is, that no one cares who you like. Not in our town, not in our school. You're free to like who you want and we won't judge"
"I guess, I guess I didn't think of that"
"Are you going to tell ryder?"
"I think it's about time I did" he wiped away his tears, getting rid of any traces that linked him to crying and just as he did ryder rounded the corner. His eyes darkening when he saw Caleb talking to anita
Ryder immediately stormed over ready to grab him but she quickly immediately interfered
"Ryder, ryder it's okay. He's explained everything to me, let him do the same to you" he calmed down slightly and looked up to his friend and back to anita who nodded encouragingly
"Bro... you're gay? How didn't I figure it out?" Caleb let out a small chuckle and ryder had his own smile on his face. He was going to forgive his life long friend, but it would be a while for him to forget, same for Anita. Detention had been over for about 30 minutes but the 3 boys had stayed longer to be caught up on everything
"I'm sorry man. This wasn't how I wanted to tell you"
"Next time think, me and Reece would've been there for you man" Reece and ryder both nodded and Caleb sat back in his seat
"Listen, ryder. I'm so sorry for everything that's happened about the ball fiasco. I was worried about the whole thing coming out and I'm sorry" ryder nodded
"It's okay man. Just don't keep things anymore" he stood up, his friends doing the same and they did a handshake that went into a hug
"But hey, you've got your mystery girl now, are you two together" ryder paused for a moment and frowned
"Not yet"
That night just before anita went to go to bed for the night her phone rang, she frowned and without checking the caller ID she put the phone to her ear
"Hello?" She questioned. Anita didn't really have people calling her phone apart from her friends so it was kind of strange
"Anita"
"Ryder?" She recognised the voice but she didn't know why or how he got her number
"It's me. Do you want to meet me?" She thought about not doing it but she has never snuck out before and she thought maybe for the first time she's wants to do it with the rider
"Um.. okay. Where are you?"
"Im in my car a few houses down from yours" they both hung up after bidding goodbyes and she got ready as quickly as she could before she made her way outside to join him
"Do you know what the time is?" Anita questioned as she opened Ryders car door and sat inside. Ryder took a glance at the clock and he smiled sheepishly
"I guess I didn't know how late it is. It's a Friday anyways, so we don't have to wake up for school tomorrow" anita pulled her seatbelt down and plugged it in letting off a small smile
"You might not, but I do. I've got to go to work tomorrow"
"Why do you work?" Anita grew confused at the question so he repeated it differently
"I mean you live in a big house, so why do you still need to work" ryder started up his car and pulled out onto the road
"I-" anita paused for a moment wondering whether she should say it
"This was actually my dads house, and when he got married he signed his will over to my stepmother. So now she insists I have to pay my way through college. That's just how it is"
"Is that why you were serving us when I was over? Because you do it all the time?"
"Yeah"
"So she's treating you like a slave? And you work at the diner? That's not fair" he snuck a glance over to her watching her look down with an embarrassed face
"It's not.. but it's my life and she's my guardian" wanting to take Anita's mind off everything he reached over and placed his hand in hers
She looked up to him as he touched her, a red coating covered her cheeks
"How about we get something to eat?"
After going to a drive through both Anita and Ryder sat in his car eating their chick fil a
"Let me take you out" ryder stated. They had both turned so they were fully sitting in front of on another
"We're out right now" she said confused and he let off a small laugh
"I mean let me take you out on a date" his eyes met her slightly wide ones
"We can go and do something fun: ice skating, an arcade. Would you want that?" Thinking about it for a moment she spoke up
"I would, really want that. But i don't know if my family would"
"Forget them Anita. You said it yourself. Prism is your guardian. She can't kick you out and if she does you can stay with me or something"
"I don't know.." she whispered. Her friends had been trying to convince her to do this for years but it was hard to leave that house behind. It was where she grew up, where her and her parents had good times together
"Okay" Ayla whispered and he smiled
"Next Saturday. Are you free then?" She nodded not explain she had to tidy the whole house beofre then
"I'll pick you up. We can do something together" she nodded

A FEW DAYS LATER ANITA, RYDER, REECE, ALEXIS AND ADAM WERE SITTING AT A TABLE IN THE CAFETERIA WHEN Caleb walked over and took a seat silencing the table
"I thought you didnt want to be seen with anyone gay?" Adam questioned and Caleb's eyes softened
"Listen. I was a dickhead, a big one. To all of you" he said turning his head to both Anita, Adam and Ryder
"And everytime I think about it, I just sound so stupid. Not talking to someone cause they'd think I was gay? It's insane. So I'm sorry"
"Glad you finally came to your senses" ryder mumbled bringing the table into fits of laughter
"So how is it going? Are you planning on telling someone?"
"I think someone else already knows" ryder turned his head and they all followed his gaze to see one of the guys on the football team talking with his friends but as he felt eyes on him he looked up and sent a smile to Caleb
Everyone already knew that David was gay. But he wasn't a sterotypical one. He played football, worked out all the time. And if you didn't know him personally you'd probably think he was straight
"David?" Reece gasped
"No fucking way"
"So what, you're talking to him now?"
"It was just normal talking at first, but it got to a bit more and i don't know"
"That's great" anita smiled but Caleb didn't return it as his attention was behind her
"Oh look who's here" turning her head around anita saw amanada, cleo and destiny there
"I'm guessing this is Cinderella" Amanda stated looking to Anita
"Of course. I would hide that face too if I was her"
"Amanda. Go away" ryder stated and her eyes widened in shock
"You don't mean that"
"He does" Reece nodded
"If that's how you wanna be" cleo shrugged and handed anita a letter. Sighing the short girl opened it, watching as the letter expanded once she opened it, only to see it was a list of chores, her mouth opening in shock
"Mom wants this done by tomorrow night"
"What? I have work after school today and then school tomorrow. I won't get all of this done tonight"
"Yeah.." destiny dragged out
"You're not coming school until this is all done"
"You can't do that" Adam protested
"Yes we can. Our moms the mayor. And if you don't. Have fun getting into manhattans school of music" the three girls walked away leaving the table in silence
"Can they just make you skip school?" Caleb question
"Yep"
"And you have to do it?"
"Yep"
"Fucking hell. Family from hell, I'll tell you that" they broke into small laughs before the bell rang and then they started to pack up their things for lunch
