Natalie’s POV
Nathan dragged me behind him to an empty study room. He made me sit on a chair. Then he pulled a chair near me and sat down.
“It hurts, right? Should I take you to the Medical Centre?” he asked concerned.
“No… No… I am fine…” I said, stretching my self on the chair to ease up my aching stomach… Beth’s kick on my lower abdomen was hurting like crazy… Other than that, I was actually okay…
“But you don’t look like you are fine…” he said sadly.
“My stomach hurts, but nothing big… I am used to these types of beatings, Nathan…” I said, trying to smile… Until those words came out of me, I didn’t realize the seriousness of my words.
Nathan’s face distorted with pain…
“You have to go through all of these because of me…” he said apologetically.
“Oh! I didn’t mean anything like that, Nathan… I just wanted to tell that I am okay…” I immediately said.
“Even if you mean that or not, it is the truth, Natalie… She attacked you today because of me… I know most of the other people who bullied you in the past, they also did that just to impress me…” he said.
“All of them were in the past, Nathan… Just forget them… Beth is just stupid, you have nothing to do with what happened today…” I said, trying to make his heart. What he said was true, he is the main reason I got bullied every day, but he is changed now, and I didn’t want to dig into the past and hurt him.
“I was such a ruthless person to let you getting hurt like that…” he buried his head between his hands…
“Please, don’t worry about that, Nathan… You have changed… That is the most important thing…” I said, keeping my hand on his leg gently.
“I don’t even know why I hold that grudge against you for this long… I am such a jerk…” he said worriedly.
Hold that grudge against me? Why he actually hold a grudge against me? As far as I can remember, I haven’t done anything wrong to him…
“Nathan… I know this is not the right time, but I always wanted to ask you this…” I said looking at him…
He lifted up his head and looked at me with a confused look…
“Actually, Nathan… What is the reason you hold a grudge against me?” I asked.
His eyes got widened… Like he couldn’t believe what he heard.
“You can’t think about a reason?” he asked.
“Every day, I tried to think of a reason why you, mom, and dad hate me so much, but I couldn’t think of anything,” I replied.
“I don’t exactly know why mom and dad treat you so badly, but I can just guess the reason… However, I know exactly, why I wanted to hurt you… But… Can’t you really think of the reason… ” he asked.
“No… I truly can’t think anything…” I said.
“Don’t you remember anything from our childhood?” he then asked.
Childhood… Well… I don’t have a distinct memory of our childhood…
“I don’t remember much, Nathan… Actually, childhood is almost like a blank page for me…” I said.
“Really? I remember everything about our childhood… Every single detail… ” he said, looking outside the window. He was like trying to remember things…
“It is really odd why I can’t remember anything, right?” I asked.
“Hmm… Can you at least remember that you were so ill those days,” he asked.
“I don’t remember any details… But I kind of remember that I was so sick…” I replied…
“Well… You were so ill those days, Natalie… There were some times that I thought you were gonna die…” he said, looking at me…
“What? Really? My condition was that bad?” I was so surprised to hear that.
“Yes… You…” when he was about to say something, the door to the study room was opened.
Luke entered the room in a hurry.
As soon as Nathan saw Luke, he stood up as he got electrified…
“Natalie… Are you okay?” Luke asked concernedly. His eyes traveled from my face to Nathan’s as he spoke.
“Yes, I am fine, Luke…” I said, smiling…
“I was so worried about you… I was looking for you everywhere. Bob told me he saw you two coming here.” Luke said.
“Nathan took me here… Don’t worry Luke, I am good… My stomach hurts a bit, other than that nothing wrong…” I said.
“That bit** kicked your belly, right? ” Luke sounded so worried.
“Yeah… She kicked me… I punched her face and her lips started to bleed. I think it triggered her…” I said with a grin… Actually, when I recall what happened, it made me laugh… I have seen girls fight in the movies. But I have never seen a live one… Who thought I would involve in such a fight in the first place?
I felt like a totally bada**!!!
“Are you crazy? Why are you laughing? That b***h beat you just like how they did in the past…” Luke was annoyed.
“Yeah she started to beat me, but I didn’t let her just beat me… I gave her the return… So it was not like the past, Luke.” I stated.
Luke didn’t say anything. He shook his head like he doesn’t accept what I said.
Then his eyes shifted to Nathan, who was quiet all this time.
“Why you let that bit** hit Natalie? Couldn’t you stop her?” he questioned.
“I didn’t know she was up to something like this, Luke… If I knew I would have stopped her.” Nathan quickly replied.
“You knew or not, you are the reason she got into a fight with Natalie… As always, it is you who behind the suffering Natalie has to go through… ” Luke shouted at Nathan…
Nathan didn’t say anything… He was just quietly standing up.
“First, That bit** attacked Natalie during my birthday party. Can you remember how much they all beat up your sister? ” Luke asked.
But without letting Nathan say anything, he continued speaking.
“How you can remember, you were pretty drunk. Also, you were so happy that she got beaten up, right? Did you even utter a word against it? Instead, You approved it. You appreciated that bit** for beating your own sister, and slept with her on that night as a reward, am I right?” Luke seemed furious…
Nathan was just staring at him, he didn’t even try to say something.
I couldn’t really understand what is going on. Luke never talks to anyone like this. He hates to hurt other people. So why he talks to Nathan like this? This is so unlikely of him…
“Luke… There is no point in talking about the past… Nathan has nothing to do with what happened today. Beth just thought I am having an affair with Nathan because she didn’t know I am his sister.” I tried to explain.
“He may have nothing to do with what happened today. But they all first started to bully you and hurt you because of him, just to impress him. He didn’t do anything to stop them. So they are just continuing that… ” Luke yelled again.
Nathan was still quite… Why the hell is he not speaking up for himself. This is so unlikely of Nathan as well… He is never ready to get criticized by anyone, even if he has a fault in his hands. But now, he is just being quiet even when he has no mistakes from his side.
I think I have to speak up for him.
“Listen, Luke…”I said, standing up.
” We don’t have to think of what happened in the past. Currently, no one is trying to hurt me or bully me. It is just Beth. She is actually madly in love with Nathan… That’s the reason for her actions. Nathan did what needed to be done today. He said in front of everyone that I am his sister, and also he specifically told everyone not to hurt me ever again… ” I said.
“He should have done that a long time ago. He wanted to make such a scene to tell everyone that you are his sister. Why he couldn’t let others know naturally? ” Luke asked.
I was totally speechless, I didn’t even know how to respond to Luke.
“As always, he wanted to have other people’s attention… As always, he wanted to be in the spotlight. He wanted to be the hero.” Luke said.
I couldn’t even believe it was Luke who was speaking like this. His words are like sharp knives. He had no empathy at all…
“We both didn’t want to go to everyone and tell that we are siblings, Luke… Nathan did what he had to do in that situation. I don’t think he wanted to be a hero. He just wanted to protect me, that’s all…” I said.
“You know nothing, Natalie… Even if he is your twin brother, you don’t know anything about him. Who knows if he is the one who asked Beth to go and attack you so that he can be a hero in front of everyone… “
Luke!!!! You have gone insane!!! Do you at least know what are you talking about? I have never felt this angry with Luke. What has happened to my sweet, always cool Luke?
“What I gain from such an action, Luke? Even if I get attention from other people, what is the use of it?” Nathan talked for the first time. His voice was filled with pain…
“You might think you can impress me that way!!!” Luke said.
What!!!! you have crossed all the limits, Luke! This is totally ridiculous!!!
“Luke!!!” I screamed at him.
“Don’t act like you are surprised, Natalie… You knew he has feelings for me, though you hid it from you…” Luke then yelled at me.
His words felt like a hard slap!
“You…” he then turned to Nathan and looked right into his eyes.
“Never think you will be able to impress me… I thought you have really changed. But now I know you are just trying to get what you want. You are just the same old Nathan… ” Luke growled at Nathan and then left the room without even looking at me.
I was just staring at the slammed door for a few seconds without knowing what to do.
After I got out of shock for a bit, I looked at Nathan.
He was still staring at the door too… His eyes were filled with tears… His whole face was turned to bloody red!
No words needed to express the deep sadness and pain he is experiencing.
“Nathan…” I talked to him gently.
He looked at me like he just woke up after a nightmare…
“Don’t think much about what he said. I don’t know what has gotten into him. I will talk to him…” I said.
“No, Natalie… You don’t have to talk to him… What he told was right, except for what happened today. He knows exactly what type of person I was in the past. So from his side, suspecting me is the right thing to do. He hates me, Natalie… He hates me for how I treated you… I think I deserve that for my stupid actions…” Nathan said in a broken voice.
“No!!! You don’t deserve that, Nathan… You are trying so hard to change… That is not a fake and not stupid as well…” I said.
“I know you, believe me, Natalie… I know you have even forgiven me… But it seems like Luke has not forgiven me yet… He holds on to the past…” Nathan said.
“That is ridiculous… I will talk some sense to him.” I said.
“No… No… You shouldn’t talk to him about this.” he said firmly.
“But why? He can’t treat you like this.” I asked confusedly.
“If he understands me and loves me one day, that should be because he felt my love for him… No one should make him see things. He must see them and understand them on his own…” Nathan replied calmly…
I was staring at him as I saw him for the first time. His love for Luke is so deep and matured. Who thought this playboy would turn into such a mature lover?
