The ride home was a peaceful one. The entire time all I could think about was Jacob and how I didn't want him to leave my side. It was something about the kid, he made me feel things that I've never felt before. I wanted him to only rely on me and me only. I wanted him to understand that the only person that he needs is me, and I can't do that when there are people like his father in the way. So he needed to be removed.
Pulling up to my house, I noticed my mom's car wasn't there so she must be at work. Parking my car I go inside the house and see my sister sitting on the loveseat sofa watching, The Witcher on what looks like Netflix. When the front door closed she turned around gave me a head nod of acknowledgment and went back to her show.
"Mom went on a date by the way." She said while biting into her sandwich.
"With who?"
"Um her co-worker I think? I don't remember the dude's name but he was pretty chill." She gave me a smile filled with food and I cringed at the sight.
Walking up to my room I go and take a shower. While walking out of the shower I heard banging coming from my front door, then the sound of people talking. The conversation lasted until I got fully dressed and as soon as I was about to lay down on my bed my sister called my name.
"What do you want Sora!" I yelled back to her.
"Someone's here for you." Thinking it was Jacob I ran out of my room as fast as I could, jumped down the stairs three at a time. When I got to the disappointment wasn't even the proper word for this situation. If anything I was annoyed because at the door was my best friend Tony Bykov. He was a Russian boy born and raised in his home country until the age of fourteen. We met our 8th-grade year and since then we were tied to the hip. For a while, though he's been gone and I've been wondering when he would be back but it looks like my question was answered today.
"Ah Hello, my friend. Oh how much I missed you!" His voice was strong and accent was pretty thick. No matter how long he's been here, which was four years, he still couldn't knock off that funny accent.
"I've missed you too Tony." My tone was light-hearted, I couldn't lie, I did miss my best friend. Embracing him with a hug it felt like all the stress that's been on my shoulders has been washed away. Pulling away he grabbed my shoulders so he can look me in the face.
"Oh my friend, its been three months, and you haven't changed one bit." His smile was bright and caused the skin around his eyes to wrinkle.
"I wish I could say the same thing about you медведь. For a second there I thought I was talking to your father." Faking a dry heave Tony pushed me away causing me to lose my footing a bit. Tony was a good looking guy If I do say so myself. He has chestnut hair, that is shorter than my own, thick eyebrows and full lips. His skin is pretty pale but it suits him and lets his hazel colored eyes stand out. He was my height but he was built a little slimmer than me, of course, he didn't work out as much as I did.
"Don't ever say something so offensive again. That old man could never be this beautiful ." He says while flipping his invisible long hair over his shoulder. With a hearty laugh, I nudge his shoulder with my own.
"So how long are you staying this time?" I say as I lead him back upstairs to my room.
"Ah, well that's what I wanted to talk to you about." He sat down on my bed and released a nervous chuckle.
"What's up медведь?" I say as I sat down next to him.
"Ugh, you haven't called me that in years. Please don't start now."
"Hey, I do as I please." I say with a smile.
"But on a serious note. I want to finish high school here with you until I have to go back to Russia but отец won't let me stay unless I have somewhere to call home. Plus you know how stubborn he is, he won't just rent me out somewhere to stay." His little speech was rushed so it was a bit hard to understand him due to his accent.
"So you're asking can you stay here?" Raising a brow at him he once again let out a nervous chuckle.
"Yeah, basically....so?" He said looked at me and scratching the back of his neck, something he does when he's self-conscious or nervous.
" Of course you can stay Tony. You know you're family, семья." Jumping up from his position he gave me a hug which knocked the breath out of me.
"Wait what about your mom?"
"What about her," I asked when he let go.
"I mean this is her house shouldn't we ask for permission?"
"When have you ever cared about permission? Plus her input is irrelevant, you're staying here no matter what she says."
"You're still the disrespectful little shit that I remember кролик." He laughs while punching my shoulder. Laying down on my bed he stares up at my ceiling. Deciding to lay down next to him I also stare at the ceiling. Scattered on it was polaroids of us from when we were younger and up to a couple of months ago. I could honestly say that Tony was the only other person that I cared about, someone I would kill for.
"So your sister eh? She matured very well if I do say so myself." He chucked out with his eyes closed.
"Dude. Don't that's my sister." Not like I cared or anything but just hearing something closely related to my sister makes me nauseous.
"Im just kidding my friend. You know I can't disrespect the bro-code like that." Rolling my eyes another one of those genuine smiles came on my face, I seem to be smiling a lot more these days. Maybe it's because of my recent extracurricular activities or maybe its because of those certain few people, who knows.
"Do you mind if I crash here tonight? I'll be gone tomorrow morning parking my stuff to come to live with my wife."
"Who's your wife?"
"So now you're going to disown me like that? After four years of marriage? The disrespect." His straight face didn't last long because after he said that he burst out laughing which in turn caused me to laugh.
"Sure man sure." Opening his mouth to say something, Tony was cut off by my phone going off. Pulling my phone out of my pocket I unlock it with him looking over my shoulder.
"Who is this eh? Some love interest?" Instead of answering I open the notification and hit with another big bold title.
'Two teens male and female both found dead in woods'
"Oh wow." Tony breathed out. "I came here cause crimes like this don't happen in your town."
Choosing to ignore him again I read further into the article until one little piece caught my attention.
"Mother of one of the victims say that daughter always wore heart pendant and when the body was studied it shows that force was added to rip necklace off body..... Officers are still looking for the culprit."
At the same time, I receive a message from Jacob. When I clicked it was a picture of him in his bathroom holding the necklace that I left on his dresser, the one I completely forgot about, and under the message it said:
Jacob: Hey, I forgot to say thanks for the necklace. It's very pretty.
"Shit," I whispered.
"Yeah shit, indeed my friend. You're in it pretty deep." Tony laughed.
