Standing backstage, Cora's venomous gaze was glued to the wedding gowns Georgia had designed, now gracing the runway. There was no turning back—her scheme for today would go ahead, no matter what.
As these thoughts raced through her mind, Cora spun around to leave backstage—only to collide with a waiter carrying a tray who happened to be passing by.
Cora suddenly spun around in a fit of anger and collided head-on with the tray held by a passing waiter. The juice instantly drenched her evening gown.
Cora was already seething with rage. The moment she saw juice spilled on her evening gown, she didn't hesitate—she delivered a harsh slap across the panicked waiter's face.
The sharp sound of the slap drew all eyes backstage—including Georgia herself.
"Sorry, sorry... Oh, I'm so sorry!" After being slapped, the waiter made no move to retaliate. Instead, he frantically pulled out a handkerchief and began dabbing at the juice stains on Cora's gown, desperately trying to clean up the mess.
When Cora got a clear look at the waiter's face, her eyes instantly flashed with contempt.
"Evelyn?" she sneered.
The moment her name was called, Evelyn—the so-called "Demon Queen" among the waitstaff—immediately ducked her head, looking flustered.
Seeing the "Demon Queen" shrink back, Cora suddenly felt smug. After Georgia, this so-called 'Demon Queen' was only the second person to really get under her skin. 'If I can't deal with Georgia right now, surely I can crush this nobody with no background?'
Cora contemptuously lifted Evelyn's chin, her voice dripping with scorn. "Oh, a waitress now? At least you know your place! Now you see what happens when you cross me? Offend me, and you won't even be fit to be a nobody model!"
Cora gave Evelyn's swollen cheek a few mocking taps and sneered, "You bitch! Got that?"
Despite being insulted by Cora, Evelyn showed no sign of anger. Instead, she plastered on a fawning smile, bowing and scraping as she said, "Crystal clear! Who doesn't know your word is gospel in the modeling world, Miss Murray? I wouldn't dare cross you, not even if I had a hundred lives!
"I must have been blind as a bat to bump into you just now. Please, Miss Murray, be merciful and let me off this time! From now on, I'll keep my tail between my legs and steer clear of you wherever you go..."
Seeing Evelyn degrade herself, Cora was thrilled to the core. She wanted to keep toying with this bitch, but remembering her upcoming plans, she decided to let Evelyn off the hook for now—after all, this worthless wretch would never escape her grasp, she thought smugly.
"Remember—be a good, obedient dog," Cora sneered.
With those words, Cora gave Evelyn a contemptuous shove and strutted out of backstage, nose held high in triumph.
Once Cora had left, Evelyn let her obsequious smile fade, a quick flicker of self-mockery crossing her face before she retreated to the kitchen—the VIP's juice had been spilled, so she still had to fetch a fresh glass.
As Evelyn was passing through backstage again with the fresh juice, a voice suddenly stopped her in her tracks:"Miss Evelyn!"
Evelyn turned around, surprised to see that the person calling her was none other than Georgia—the star of today's bridal show.
Besides being Cora's cousin, she had also arrived with Colin.
At the sight of Georgia, Evelyn instinctively bowed her head and nodded.
"Miss Murray, did you call for me?" Evelyn asked respectfully.
Although Georgia couldn't quite understand Evelyn's instinctive subservience, she really had no other choice at this point.
"I just heard you're a model too, Miss Moore," Georgia said. "Could you step in as a last-minute replacement for me?"
Georgia had expected that someone like Evelyn—a freelance model who'd been pushed to rock bottom—would jump at this runway opportunity. But to her surprise, Evelyn showed little excitement, instead falling into deep contemplation.
After a brief pause, she drawled lazily, "What's your offer for my appearance fee, Miss Murray?"
Georgia was taken aback—she hadn't expected Evelyn to be so blunt, with "money-hungry" practically written all over her face.
