At this moment, Louis was completely oblivious to Gemma, his eyes blazing as he fixed them on Georgia, whose expression was a mix of amusement and nonchalance.
Her smile felt like a slap to Louis's face.
No words needed, Georgia had already won.
He should've known this woman was a venomous viper pretending to be a delicate little rabbit for three years, and as soon as they divorced, she showed her true colors.
When she saw Louis's gaze completely on Georgia, Gemma's nails dug painfully into her palm. "Louis, believe me. I didn't do it!"
Gemma wanted to throw herself into Louis's arms, but seeing his coldness, she could only grab his sleeve and sob while pointing at Georgia.
"It was you. You planned all this, didn't you?"
Georgia scoffed, "Gemma, did I scheme for the hospital to run out of water? Or did I plan when you'd wash your feet?"
Looking at Gemma crying like her mom died, Georgia taunted Louis. "Mr. Rathbone, remember what you said? If you make a mistake, you have to admit it and pay the price."
Feeling as if struck across the face, Louis coldly gazed at the woman before him, who was becoming increasingly enigmatic.
"Gemma wouldn't do that, and even if she did, you already poured water on her head. What more do you want?" he said.
Hearing this, Georgia laughed in anger. "Mr. Rathbone, you're such a hypocrite. Who was it demanding I apologize before the truth came out?
"Now that your girl is in the wrong, you want to sweep it under the rug? That's not how it works in my dictionary."
"Georgia, don't push your luck. What do you think you can do now?" Samuel pulled the sobbing Gemma into his arms, pointing at the brazen woman in front of him angrily.
"Why don't you try, Mr. Maxwell?" Georgia smiled.
Louis couldn't figure out where Georgia's confidence to stand up to him came from.
"Georgia, what exactly do you want?" he snapped.
Georgia's eyes were filled with determination as she replied, "Nothing much, after being cyberbullied all day, I just want the truth. That's not too much to ask, is it?"
"Fine! I'll give you the truth then," Louis said.
Hearing Louis agree, Gemma screamed instantly, "No!"
"Miss Kirkland, if you really don't know about this, why are you so eager to stop us from investigating? Or are you just scared?" Georgia pressed on.
"No," Gemma denied it urgently, but suddenly changed her tune, pointing at the crowd as if she had just realized something. "It's her. She's been doing all this behind our backs."
Grace, who was pointed out in the crowd by the office door, froze instantly. "Dr. Kirkland, I did everything based on what you—"
But before she could finish her sentence, Gemma interrupted her, "Shut up, Grace.
"How could you do such a thing behind my back when I've always taken care of you at work?"
"Dr. Kirkland, don't make false accusations! I was just following..."
"Grace, how can you face your family, who have high hopes for you? Have you thought that your dad was about to retire and your younger brother was going to take the exam for a top school when you forced Ms. Murray to drink foot bath water under my name?"
Gemma's words hit. Grace wilted like frostbitten lettuce.
"Mr. Rathbone, sorry. It was me. I did it under Dr. Kirkland's name." Panicked and crying to Louis, Grace knew she was done for.
To protect her family from the powerful Kirkland family, who could crush them like ants with ease, she had no choice but to take the blame.
"Louis, Grace's young and naive; we can't ruin her future." Hearing Grace take responsibility for the act, Gemma hurriedly pleaded with Louis.
The medical staff who had lost some respect for Gemma regained some of it when she pleaded for Grace.
