Joel's cocky strut triggered memories of two years ago in Georgia.
At the time, she had already been eight months pregnant. That day, after delivering lunch to Louis, she ran into a sudden downpour while returning home and got back late as she had to seek shelter from the rain.
Joel deliberately incited her mother-in-law, Phoebe, to lock the door.
She remembered standing in the rain, with Joel under the eaves, all arrogant.
"The Rathbone family isn't somewhere a cheap slut like you can just waltz into. Check yourself—my mom said, if you want to come home, kneel at the gate for two hours."
With that, Joel turned and went inside.
For Louis, she actually knelt in the rain for two full hours.
As a result, she caught a cold and had a high fever. But Joel didn't let her off—instead, she ordered the feverish Georgia to cook.
Even so, it didn't earn her any sympathy. While she, with a fever and eight months pregnant, was carrying the meal upstairs, Joel shoved her down the stairs, and the baby was lost.
At this thought, a cold glint flashed in Georgia's beautiful eyes. "Guess all this today is for Gemma, huh?"
She'd never forget what Gemma said that day. Though her child's loss was mainly due to Gemma, Joel wasn't innocent either.
The fact that Georgia dared to mock her back hit Joel's pride hard.
"So what if it is? Only someone as talented and noble as Gemma is worthy of marrying into our family. You? Aren't even fit to lick her shoes."
Georgia smirked, looking down at Joel. "Good then."
That meant she could act without guilt now.
Hearing Georgia, Joel exploded in anger again. 'How dare this bitch talk to me like that today?' she cursed inwardly.
In a fit, she swung a slap at Georgia.
But before it landed, Georgia firmly caught her wrist. Shocked that Georgia blocked her, Joel, in a rage, grabbed a safety hammer and swung it at Georgia's head.
Already knowing Joel was ruthless, Georgia was still thrilled by this move.
Her eyes narrowing, Georgia deftly snatched the hammer and swung it at Joel's captured arm.
A crisp "crack" sounded, and Joel's pig-slaughter screech ripped through the air.
"Georgia, you snapped my arm. My brother won't let you off!" she seethed.
Seeing Joel injured, Green Hair and Red Hair, glancing at Georgia, who didn't target them, cautiously helped Joel into the car.
'This is the dignified Miss Rathbone, and that bitch dares to hurt her? Guess the old saying's true—hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,' the thugs thought to themselves.
"Georgia, just wait. I'll make you pay. I'll kill you!" Before leaving, Joel cursed at Georgia through the car window.
Closing her eyes, Georgia stood under the night sky. Paid her baby's blood-debt with Joel's arm—square accounts now.
As she walked back home, Vance hurried over, checking her up and down. "Georgia, did you get hurt?"
Seeing his daughter safe and sound, Vance finally felt at ease. "Thank goodness!
"Who were those people? How did you get involved with them?"
Georgia looked straight at him and said, "Dad, what if you find out I'm not the same as before? Would you still love me?"
Hearing this, Vance was stunned. Recalling her moves when she fought those hooligans, he suddenly understood what Phillip had scolded him for in the hospital.
Just as Phillip said, he was useless—unable to protect his wife or his daughter.
"Georgia, you're the only daughter your mom and I have in this world. No matter what, I'll always love you.
"It's Dad's fault. I couldn't protect you, and you've suffered so much."
As he spoke, Vance turned away, not wanting Georgia to see him cry.
Seeing her dad's thin back, Georgia said, her tone firm, "Dad, everything will get better. From now on, I'll protect you."
The next day, Georgia got up early, dressed neatly, and left home.
The selection would start at nine, and it was already past seven.
But as soon as Georgia stepped out of the alley in the slums, a luxurious Maybach was already parked there, blocking the way.
Next to the trash can, cigarette butts piled up.
The car door opened, and Louis's strong hand, like a pair of pliers, grabbed Georgia's wrist—a wrist that had been injured multiple times.
"Georgia, you've been acting for three years, and now you're done?" The man's deep voice sounded.
"Are you sick or something? Blocking me so early in the morning? You got nothing better to do?"
The competition venue was far away, and any more delays would make her late.
The hand gripping Georgia's wrist tightened unconsciously. Louis's cold eyes met Georgia's eyes. "Breaking Joel's arm, you're really vicious."
Hearing this, Georgia suppressed her anger. She had endured for three long years in the Rathbone family, only to be met with his vicious words in the end.
So, Georgia sneered, "Mr. Rathbone, I've been vicious for a long time now. You know that, don't you?"
Hearing Georgia's provocation, Louis tightened his grip.
The old injury on her wrist was triggered, and the pain made Georgia's face turn pale instantly.
"Louis, you're hurting me. Let go!"
"Hurting? That's all it takes to hurt you? Didn't you think about how much it would hurt Joel when you broke her arm?"
At the sight of Georgia's pale face, Louis's anger intensified. 'Is this woman acting again?' he wondered.
For three years, he had been deceived by her appearance, thinking she was a fragile weed, only to realize now that she was actually a thorny rose.
"Georgia, go to the hospital and apologize to Joel." As Louis spoke, he pulled Georgia towards the car.
With Louis's pull, Georgia's already injured wrist was hurt again, the pain piercing her heart, turning her eyes red.
"Louis, you know nothing.
"Listen up! Even if I die, I won't apologize to Joel."
'What an unreasonable woman! She had deliberately broken Joel's arm, yet now refused to admit her mistake.' With this thought, Louis let go suddenly at that moment, and Georgia, losing her balance, fell to the ground.
Seeing her acupuncture bag about to fall, Georgia panicked. The silver needles in the acupuncture bag had been sterilized early and absolutely couldn't touch the ground and get dirty.
Without thinking, Georgia managed to catch the acupuncture bag with her hand as she fell, but her hands slammed hard onto the ground.
Louis looked down and saw that the hands holding the acupuncture kit were now bloody and raw from the ground.
At the time, she had already been eight months pregnant. That day, after delivering lunch to Louis, she ran into a sudden downpour while returning home and got back late as she had to seek shelter from the rain.
