The window rolled down, and a sharp voice snapped, "Get in."
Louis didn't spare her a glance, his face like ice.
'Elsie probably guilted him into this,' Georgia thought.
She opened the back door, spread a tissue on the leather seat, and slid in.
Louis caught her tissue move in the rearview mirror. His jaw ticked, but he stayed silent.
The car pulled out, and neither said a word. Georgia toyed with her nails, staring down.
Then Louis's voice cut through, laced with venom. "So, you wave that divorce paper around like a tease, then beg Grandma to kill it. Nice move, Georgia. Same old shady tricks."
Georgia stiffened, ready to clap back, but stopped. Why bother? He'd already branded her a scheming gold-digger. No point arguing.
Louis noticed she didn't bite back like usual. It left a weird pang in his gut. 'Screw it. I don't need her drama.'
Nearing the estate, his phone buzzed. He tapped his earpiece. "Gemma, you okay?"
His voice was soft—too soft. Georgia's chest tightened, but she swallowed it, smirking bitterly. All his warmth went to Gemma; she got the cold shoulder.
Gemma's sobs crackled through, words unclear.
Suddenly—Screech!
The car lurched. Georgia's forehead slammed into the headrest.
Louis glanced at the red mark blooming on her head but said nothing. He whipped the car around.
Georgia's eyes narrowed. "Where're you going? Drop me off, Mr. Rathbone."
"Mr. Rathbone?" Louis hissed.
'Is she for real?' he thought.
"No time," he barked, brushing her off.
Georgia's lips curled. "Rushing to save your precious Gemma, huh? Not worried about dragging your almost-ex along? Might mess with her vibe."
Louis's brows furrowed. "Gemma's not like you. She's got a heart."
Seeing her face darken, he added, almost guilty, "Someone stole her research and trashed her for it. She's so torn up she… cut herself."
His eyes flicked to Georgia's casted wrist.
She raised a brow, sarcasm dripping. "What, her thirty-fifth stolen project? And her—five hundred seventy-second—suicide attempt?"
Louis froze. Those numbers hit hard. He'd never thought about it like that.
"Here's hoping she follows through," Georgia said, voice cold as ice.
Louis's gaze sharpened. 'Why did she sound so… off?'
She stared back, eyes like steel. She used to do anything to save their marriage, ignoring the world outside the Rathbone family. Not anymore. Gemma was about to get checked.
Twenty minutes later, the Maybach screeched into Saylor Hospital's lot—Journ City's best.
Louis bolted for the ER. Georgia trailed, taking her time.
Gemma's mom, Anna, spotted Georgia and lost it. "What're you doing here? Louis came for my daughter!"
Georgia smirked. "I'm his wife. Why wouldn't I be?"
The old Georgia would've backed down. Not now. If the divorce wasn't done, she'd use Louis to rattle Anna.
Anna's face turned beet red. "Get out! We don't want you!"
Georgia's grin widened. "Tell your little sidepiece to stop spamming my husband's phone. What's the deal—being a homewrecker's a flex now?"
A crowd gathered. Anna's hands shook. "Shut it! If you hadn't drugged Louis and hopped into his bed three years ago, my daughter would be Mrs. Rathbone!"
She broke into loud sobs, milking the crowd. "You stole Gemma's happiness! She's been broken ever since. Now her research got jacked, she got slandered, and she tried to end it. What more do you want?"
The crowd ate it up. Whispers spread.
"Wow, she's heartless. Poor Dr. Kirkland—marriage stolen, work ripped off, slandered, and now driven to slit her wrists. And this chick's still hounding her?"
"Dr. Kirkland's a gem. Gorgeous, sweet. She even checks on my grandma in the ward. Total angel."
"Wait, isn't that the chick from yesterday's cheating scandal online?"
"Yup, her. Total vixen. What a sleaze."
"She's getting divorced, right? Why's she even here?"
"Three years of mooching, then got played by some dude. Got nothing. She'd probably make more working the streets."
Anna's eyes gleamed with smug satisfaction.
'Like mother, like daughter,' Georgia thought.
Georgia didn't flinch. She locked eyes with Anna, voice sharp. "Five hundred seventy-two suicide attempts and she's still kicking? Girl's got lives to spare."
She leaned in, smile cutting. "But let's be real. No matter how many times she plays the wrist-cutting card, I'm still Louis's wife. Until those papers are signed, Gemma's just the side chick chasing clout."
