Seeing Louis, usually so calm, with fire in his eyes, Georgia gave a mocking smile. "What's wrong? Feeling sorry for her now, Mr. Rathbone?"
"Louis, I'm fine. Don't blame Ms. Murray," Gemma said quickly. "It's my fault for trusting the wrong person. I misjudged Noelle and brought all this on myself."
Louis stared at the scene in front of him—Gemma lying on the floor, her hair a mess, one side of her face swollen and bruised, blood seeping from the corner of her lips.
Georgia was gripping her chin like she owned the room. Without a word, Louis rushed forward, scooped Gemma into his arms, and strode out of the office.
"This has nothing to do with Gemma, Georgia," Louis said as he carried her away. "I know you've been through a lot, but this isn't on her."
Georgia's lips curved into a cold sneer. 'Nothing to do with her? Does he really expect everyone to follow him in pretending not to see the truth?
' He never trusted me. Not once. Let me see how he will react when the real Gemma is finally revealed.'
Later that night, when Georgia returned home exhausted, Meridith came out of the kitchen holding a plate of pizza.
Meridith said, "Georgia, to celebrate, Dad and I made a feast—pizzas."
"Well, that's really something. Thank you," Georgia said with a tired smile. "You two outdid yourselves."
As they sat down to eat the oddly-shaped pizza, Meridith suddenly looked up. "Did you see the news?"
Georgia asked, "What news?"
Meridith replied, "Noelle Faulkner's arms got cut off."
Hearing this, Georgia grabbed her phone and opened the news. The photo showed Noelle lying in a hospital bed, both arms gone, eyes empty like she'd lost her soul.
Actually, Georgia felt no sympathy for someone so cruel and ungrateful. If anything, there was only a sigh. "Brought it on herself."
Meridith shook her head. "What goes around comes around, huh? Wasn't she trying to mess up your wrists back then?"
Georgia glanced at her sister. For a second, in those pretty, doll-like eyes, she saw a flash of satisfaction—like revenge had been served.
But in the next moment, it was gone. 'Must've imagined it,' Georgia thought.
After a full night's rest, Georgia woke up early the next morning and headed straight to Saylor Hospital. Some things needed to be dealt with today.
In the director's office, Samuel sat in his tailored suit, legs casually propped on his desk.
On his tablet, a replay of Georgia's competition performance played on loop.
Lately, the two names everyone at Saylor was talking about were Noelle and Georgia.
Samuel had assumed Georgia, with her looks and soft demeanor, would get torn apart by someone like Noelle.
He never expected her to fight back that hard—and win without leaving her enemy a shred of dignity. While he was still mulling it over, a knock came at the door.
Georgia walked in gracefully, standing across from him with a calm smile. "Mr. Maxwell, I won. Time to honor your promise and give me back the position I had three years ago."
Watching that confident smirk on her face, Samuel grinned, nodding slowly.
'How did I not see before that she's got thorns under all that grace?' Samuel wondered.
Without another word, Georgia turned and walked out.
"Want me to take you out to celebrate?" Samuel called after her, spreading his hands.
Georgia turned slightly, gave a soft laugh, and walked away.
But that smile stayed burned in Samuel's mind. It stirred something in him again.
Not long after, an official notice came down—Georgia was reinstated to her former position.
Soon, the hospital buzzed with talk.
"Georgia's seriously amazing. She turned everything around and took back her title."
"My professor said she's the dark horse of the whole medical field."
"Now that she's back, what's gonna happen to Dr. Kirkland?"
"Three years ago, Gemma was at the top of doctors ranking. Now it's Georgia. The firepower between them? Yikes."
Gemma also got the news. She walked into the hospital with a blank face, only to hear staff whispering behind her.
The moment she appeared, the gossip stopped. Everyone knew Samuel had taken the director's role just to protect Gemma. None of them dared cross her.
"Got nothing better to do at work than gossip?" Kara, trailing behind Gemma, snapped.
Scolded, the others quickly scattered.
Kara had been close to Gemma ever since Gemma recruited her after a high-stakes surgery two years ago.
Inside the office, Kara poured a cup of coffee and handed it to her. She said, "Gemma, I think Mr. Rathbone was out of line this time. He saw that woman hit you and didn't even punish her?
"I just can't stand her acting all cold and high and mighty. How can you be okay with her sitting at the same level as you?"
Gemma stayed silent, clearly annoyed.
Kara glanced at her and said suddenly, "I heard that woman went to see Mr. Maxwell this morning.
"What if we tell Mr. Rathbone? Maybe he'll finally see what kind of flirt she really is."
Hearing this, Gemma gave a cool, refined smile. "Is it really necessary? If we're good enough on our own, do we really need to chase after a man?
"I do like Louis, but I'd never go that far. I'd rather be alone forever than stoop that low."
Kara sighed, clearly more upset than Gemma. "If you keep this up, when are you ever gonna marry Mr. Rathbone?
"Ugh, fine—if you don't do it, I will. Just wait."
With that, Kara jumped up and stormed out. Gemma watched her leave in a huff, lips curling into a faint smile.
