Kara stormed off in a huff. It wasn't until half an hour later that Gemma finally picked up her car keys and left unhurriedly.
When Kara arrived at Rathbone Group, the receptionist stopped her. "Miss, you can't go upstairs without an appointment."
"Get out of my way! I need to see Mr. Rathbone." Kara shoved past the receptionist and headed straight for the elevator.
But unlike the staff at Saylor Hospital, employees at Rathbone Group weren't so accommodating. The receptionist called security, and they promptly kicked Kara out.
Cursing under her breath, Kara shouted angrily, "Damn it! When Mr. Rathbone gets here, I'm making sure he fires all of you."
Kara waited outside for a full twenty minutes before Louis finally walked out of the building.
Kara rushed to block his path, her tone full of frustration. "Mr. Rathbone, the moment Gemma and I stepped into the hospital today, people were already talking.
"They said Georgia should've been first on the Saylor top doctors ranking all along, and that from now on, Gemma should avoid her entirely."
Louis's face darkened slightly. He asked, "Who said that?"
"Everyone in the hospital's talking about it," Kara answered quickly. "And let's be real, Georgia's gorgeous. She walked out of the director's office this morning and got reinstated immediately. She even said she's going to humiliate Gemma big time."
"How is Gemma supposed to keep working there like this? They're practically pushing her off a cliff," Kara added.
Louis's gaze turned colder. "She came out of Samuel's office this morning?"
"Of course she did. Everyone saw it. It's not even a secret anymore." Kara huffed. "Georgia flat-out said she's gonna kick Gemma off the top doctors ranking."
When Louis thought back on Georgia's recent actions, his expression hardened. 'That woman actually has the nerve to tangle herself with Samuel? She's clearly testing my limits.'
Louis glanced at Kara. Despite the message she brought being infuriating, she still got on his nerves.
If it weren't for Gemma's sake, Louis wouldn't have given her the time of day.
As he turned to leave, Gemma came hurrying up in high heels, slightly out of breath. "Kara, you walk way too fast. I've been trying to catch up forever."
"Louis," Gemma said softly, "Kara's always been blunt, but Georgia is still your ex-wife. If she's doing okay after the divorce, I'm genuinely happy for her."
Kara's heart ached seeing Gemma's sad expression. She said softly, "Gemma, she's bullying you because she thinks you're weak.
"If Mr. Maxwell hadn't shown up in time, you would've—"
Gemma covered Kara's mouth quickly and turned to Louis with a forced smile. "Louis, if you've got work to do, go ahead. Don't listen to Kara rambling."
Then Gemma lowered her eyes and spoke quietly. "That incident is over. There's no point bringing it up again."
Kara shoved her hand away. "What do you mean, let it go? She's clearly out to ruin you, don't you get it?"
Seeing Kara spill everything like a firecracker, Gemma looked at Louis in a panic. "Kara, stop it. Georgia's not that kind of person."
Louis looked at Gemma. For some reason, an odd frustration rose in him.
Louis thought, 'She's still my first love, yet she feels nothing like the sweet and gentle girl I once knew.
'It's like she is wearing a mask. But actually, she doesn't have to—I've divorced Georgia for her, after all.'
Kara's voice was full of contempt. "That kind of woman would totally do something like this. When seducing Mr. Rathbone didn't work, she schemed her way into his bed.
"After marrying Mr. Rathbone and seeing him only care about you, she got jealous and tried to hurt you. If Mr. Maxwell hadn't shown up in time, you would've been—
"Gemma, you're just too kind. You're still happy for her getting her job back, but she clearly sees you as the enemy."
"Stop it, Kara, just stop." Gemma tried to calm her down and looked apologetically at Louis. "Louis, don't mind her. I'll take her and go."
