The next day, Georgia arrived early at Royal Dawn Sanatorium to finish her boarding. But unexpectedly, she ran into Gemma and Kara walking out of the lobby.
The moment Georgia saw Kara, she recognized her instantly. She was the one who had ordered those thugs to crush her wrist the day she got caught.
A sharp pain shot through Georgia's wrist, and Cora's words echoed in her mind. "You getting into Louis's bed? That was all part of Gemma's plan—I was the one who drugged you.
"Your mother's death? We set that up too. That stillborn baby of yours and all your success? We planned every bit of it. Georgia, starting today, you're nothing but trash."
The hatred came rushing back. Georgia wanted nothing more than to strangle Gemma with her bare hands.
Her nails dug into her palms. The pain brought her back to her senses. 'No,' Georgia thought, 'I can't let her go that easily. I want to make her lose everything, slowly. I want her to feel that same helplessness—watching everything she owns slip away with no way to stop it.'
Gemma smiled. "Ms. Murray, long time no see."
Seeing Gemma actually greet Georgia, Kara snapped, "What, are you deaf? Didn't you hear Gemma say hi?
"You useless bitch. So what if you slept with Mr. Maxwell? He still tossed you aside.
"Don't forget, this place belongs to the Maxwell family. Everyone here works for them. If you want to survive, you better know your place."
Gemma saw Kara revealing too much and tugged her arm quickly. "Kara, stop talking."
Kara sneered. "What's there to be scared of? This is Mr. Maxwell's turf. You saved his life. And you're still afraid of that lowlife Georgia?"
Ignoring the yelling behind her, Georgia kept walking into the elevator, her palm bleeding from how tightly she'd clenched her hand. It wasn't the time to act—yet.
As the elevator doors closed, Georgia shot Kara one last cold glance. 'Let's see how long you two can keep this up.'
After Georgia completed her onboarding, Henry told her that the most important patient hadn't checked in yet, so she could take three days off first.
During those three days, Georgia planned to visit some malls. Not for shopping, but to check out what was trending in the market.
That day, Georgia wandered from morning until afternoon. Just as she stood by the road ready to catch a cab, the sky suddenly opened up and poured rain.
Traffic clogged instantly. Georgia cursed her luck under her breath and rushed under a nearby bus stop for cover.
The rain kept getting heavier. Georgia stood on the edge of the crowd, her clothes already soaked through.
Georgia had no idea how much time passed before a sleek black luxury car suddenly pulled up through the storm.
The window rolled down, revealing Louis's sharp, perfect side profile. "Georgia. Get in," he said calmly.
Georgia really didn't want to, but the rain was brutal, and water was already pooling around her feet. Gritting her teeth, she yanked the car door open and got in.
She hadn't expected to see Louis at such a miserable moment. She wanted to thank him, but when she saw him completely focused on the file in his hands, not even sparing her a glance, she swallowed her thanks and sat awkwardly to the side.
Then Georgia took out the only packet of tissues in her purse and began wiping off the rain. But after a few dabs, the tissues were soaked through.
Louis spoke up. "Felix, get Ms. Murray a towel and a hairdryer."
Hearing that, Felix pulled out a clean towel quickly and a small travel dryer from the front seat and handed them to Georgia.
"Thanks," Georgia said to Felix.
Taking the towel and hairdryer, Georgia began to dry her hair methodically. She didn't notice that the hand Louis held the file with had suddenly gone stiff, his knuckles turning white.
Louis muttered, 'I'm the one who told him to get that stuff, so why is she thanking Felix like I don't exist?'
Felix smiled politely, but when he glanced into the rearview mirror, Louis was staring at him like he wanted to kill him.
His whole body tensed. Felix felt like death was breathing down his neck.
