Georgia let out a self-deprecating smile and continued drying her hair.
While Louis heard Gemma's words, that familiar wave of frustration returned to him.
He glanced at Georgia again, seeing that she didn't react at all, then replied coldly, "Whatever you think is best."
Gemma's smile grew wider. "Then next month is the annual Wedding Expo. And the Kirkland Group are hosting this year.
"I was thinking, wouldn't it be perfect to announce our engagement during the most glorious moment for our family?"
For some reason, Georgia's mind went blank for a second.
But she quickly snapped back to reality. 'Right. We're divorced. Louis can marry whoever he wants. But still… I just wish it wouldn't be her.'
As Gemma's hopeful voice filled the car, Louis's eyes once again drifted to Georgia. It was as if he was waiting for her to say no so he could turn Gemma down.
But after a long pause, Georgia simply kept drying her hair like nothing happened.
A surge of anger shot through Louis. He yanked his gaze back and said coldly, "Sure."
Gemma lit up with joy. She hadn't expected that her half-joking attempt to provoke Georgia and test Louis would actually work. Her dream was coming true, and she could barely contain her excitement.
Still, Gemma kept a graceful smile as she turned to Georgia. "Ms. Murray, I know you and Louis were married once.
"Even though you're divorced now, that doesn't mean you can't still be friends, right? When Louis and I get engaged, we'd really love your blessing. We hope you find happiness too."
Georgia's mind went blank again when she heard Louis agree to the engagement. But Gemma's words snapped her back.
Looking at Louis, whose face remained cold and unmoved, Georgia replied without any hesitation, "No problem. I'll be there."
'Of course I'll go to the Wedding Expo—but whether it's to give her blessing is another story,' Georgia thought.
When Georgia said she'd go to bless their engagement, the air around Louis grew darker.
Gemma noticed he was angry. Smiling, she said to Georgia, "Where are you headed, Ms. Murray? Louis and I have time—we can give you a ride."
Georgia gave a faint smile, not wanting to intrude on their romantic little moment. She turned to Felix and said, "Please stop ahead. I'm there."
Then Georgia looked at Louis, who was still buried in his file, and thanked him before stepping out of the car.
Only after Georgia left did Louis lift his head. His eyes remained fixed on the slender figure walking in the light rain outside the window.
Gemma followed his gaze and suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest. A flicker of venom passed through her eyes.
After a long while, Louis finally looked away and said coldly, "I'm heading to the office now. Where are you going? I'll drop you off first."
Louis spoke with a distant tone and finally flipped to the next page of the file.
Gemma's heart twisted in frustration, but she still replied softly, "I'll just head home."
In truth, there was never a plan for Louis to visit her parents with gifts this weekend.
Gemma had only said that to get under Georgia's skin. She knew Louis wouldn't expose her in front of others, so she felt free to lie.
But now, Gemma realized Louis was truly angry. Whenever he got mad, he hated being bothered. That's why she chose to quietly go home.
