Georgia smiled faintly. Henry was quite sharp.
He said, "If even you can see through it, what makes you think I don't?"
Henry was momentarily speechless.
"Then why did you tell her you'd think about it?" he asked.
Georgia looked over and countered with a knowing smile, "Do you really think Caroline would back down that easily?"
Henry stopped in his tracks, thinking, 'How would I know?'
Seeing Henry's bewildered expression, Georgia's lips curled into a knowing smile.
"Oh, she won't stop till she gets her way!"
Sure enough, no sooner had Georgia finished speaking than Caroline caught up with her.
"Dr. Murray," Caroline said urgently, "Name any terms or demands you want, but you absolutely must attend my product launch… "
Seeing Caroline's desperate expression, Georgia's lips curled into a mocking smirk. "Make such a half-hearted invitation public online, and maybe I'll consider showing up."
The crowd gasped in shock at Georgia's audacious demand:
"Who does she think she is? What gives her the right?"
"If you ask me, Dr. Hutchinson is just wasting her time. Why put up with this insolence? Even a dog would be more grateful for this opportunity!"
Hearing the hushed whispers from the crowd, Georgia turned her attention back to Caroline.
She arched an eyebrow mockingly and said, "Oh dear, seems some people aren't pleased. Why don't you just give the invitation to them instead?"
With that, Georgia spun around and strode off without a second glance.
Caroline swiftly blocked Georgia's path, then whirled around, her voice sharp as she reprimanded the backbiting women, "Get back to your work! What are you all crowding around here for?"
Once the crowd had dispersed, Caroline put on an ingratiating smile and said, "Dr. Murray, since you've agreed, I'll have someone post your special invitation online right away."
Her eyes sparkled with apparent delight, but inwardly, a venomous thought took shape. "Hmph! I'm not afraid to make this a big deal. The higher I build you up now, Georgia, the harder you'll crash down later. Just wait and see!"
Once Caroline and her people were finally gone, Henry, still utterly bewildered, asked again, "You already know what she's up to—so why would you still agree to attend?"
Georgia's red lips curled into a cold smirk, but she offered no answer to Henry's question.
For some reason, seeing Georgia's cold smile gave him a creeping sense that someone was about to suffer big time. A chill ran down his spine.
A moment later, a doctor in his early forties, clad in a white lab coat, approached.
Henry immediately turned to Georgia and said, "Dr. Murray, let me introduce you. This is Dr. Brooks, who is temporarily serving as the chief physician after Mr. Crawford retirement."
David, peering through his glasses, extended his hand to Georgia.
"Hello, Dr. Murray. I'm David Brooks. Just call me David."
The moment Georgia saw David's eyes behind those glasses, she felt an immediate wave of revulsion. And when he told her to call him "David," her disgust only intensified.
Georgia gave a polite smile but didn't greet him.
David, putting on a serious front, addressed Henry. "Henry, since there's now a new chief physician, I'll go ahead and hand over the duties I've been temporarily managing."
After Henry nodded, David followed Georgia to her office.
Watching David shut the door behind him with an unnervingly casual ease, Georgia's eyes darkened with suspicion.
Just as Georgia reached for the medical file David offered, his clammy hand suddenly closed over her delicate hand.
Georgia's eyes narrowed to slits. Just then, the office door was violently kicked open from outside. "What the hell are you two doing here?"
A tall and slender young female doctor, also clad in a white lab coat, stormed in.
Recognizing the woman who had stormed in, David snatched his hand back and stammered, trying to explain, "Honey... I... I'm just handing over work to the new doctor..."
