Caroline's eyes blazed with fury.
Through gritted teeth, she snapped, "Fine! I'll let you take part in the auction this time..."
Once this auction was over, she would settle the score with Alicia once and for all.
Seeing Alicia's smug grin, Caroline glared at her and snapped a warning. "But watch your mouth. One wrong word, and you'll bring trouble on yourself."
Mission accomplished, Alicia shrugged nonchalantly and strode out of Caroline's office.
Outside the venue of the new special-effect drug launch event hosted by Caroline.
As soon as Georgia stepped out of the taxi, she was greeted by the sight of Meridith's strikingly devilish face.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded.
Meridith waved the mini camcorder in her hand with a smug grin.
"I'm here to capture my sister's shining moment! You see this? A full-on, high-level, 360-degree, no-blind-spot recording of your success."
"Is this another one of your high-tech gadgets?"
"Of course! Who do you think your genius little sister is?"
Georgia's lips twitched wryly. She waved Meridith off and then headed into the press conference.
With half an hour to go before the auction, the dozen or so selected bidders had already gathered at the venue, waiting.
Georgia stood in line, filling out her registration details.
"What's the holdup? Are you letting people in or not? You can't seriously make everyone wait outside just for your media stunt, can you?"
Hearing the woman's assertive shout, Georgia instinctively looked over.
The girl appeared to be in her early twenties. Her crisp utility outfit and combat boots accentuated her shapely figure, radiating a fierce and chic aura.
Her sleek black short hair framed her face, adding a touch of youthful vigor and striking confidence.
"We're really sorry, Miss Crawford, but Professor Hutchinson has instructed us to wait for one particular guest before we can open the doors."
Hearing the security guard's words, Iris's eyes blazed with fury.
"There's a crowd blocking the entrance just to wait for one person? The nerve! Do they think they're royalty? Tell me, who is it? Is it that Georgia?" she demanded.
Hearing the young woman's blunt remarks, Georgia, waiting in line, was left speechless.
'Did I just get dragged into this for no reason?' she thought, exasperated.
"Miss Crawford, my sincerest apologies for not greeting you properly earlier," Caroline forced a smile as she hurried to explain.
Iris shot Caroline a cold, arrogant look and said, "If you're just stalling for publicity, just admit it. You knew it was inappropriate, but you still went ahead anyway. Now that it's done, cut the act!"
Caroline was instantly embarrassed. She wanted to argue back, but she didn't dare offend this troublemaker. If she said the wrong thing and upset her, getting beaten up was entirely possible. This one was not someone to mess with.
To uphold her public persona, Caroline held her tongue, offering only a resigned smile that silently conveyed to those around her that she was doing her best to tolerate the willful behavior of a spoiled heiress like Iris.
Seeing her expression, Iris rolled her eyes again and snapped, "Why are you putting on that fake innocent act? Did I say anything wrong?"
Seeing Iris's blatant arrogance, everyone instinctively kept their distance from the entitled heiress.
Caroline's husband, Simon, quickly stepped in to defuse the awkward tension.
He addressed the guests smoothly, "It's about time. Everyone, please proceed inside!"
"Get me a quiet seat. I can't stand crowds."
The moment she walked in, Iris imperiously issued her demand as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Miss Crawford, this auction thrives on its popularity, so there won't be a single quiet spot. Would you be willing to bear with the crowd?" Simon said.
Hearing Simon's placating explanation, Iris was about to snap back when the man in a crisp military uniform standing behind her suddenly intervened. "Iris, what did you promise Dad before we left home? Don't forget, we're here today to bid for that special-effect drug."
