Outside the emergency room, Caroline paced back and forth anxiously, her mind in turmoil.
Simon shot Caroline an impatient look and said coldly, "Didn't you already talk to Dr. Kirkland about the hospital? The police will definitely get involved at the venue. I'll keep an eye on things here, you get back to the event right now. If you don't handle this properly, the Crawford family won't let us off the hook. You'd better watch your step!"
The moment Caroline stepped back into the venue, Alfred's thunderous interrogation struck her like a bolt.
Caroline turned pale with fright and hurriedly apologized.
"Mr. Crawford, we sincerely apologize for what happened to your daughter. We'll conduct a thorough investigation and give you a full account of this incident."
"Accountability? Iris is my most beloved treasured jewel! How dare such a catastrophe happen at your event? What kind of explanation can you possibly give our family?"
Caroline's lips, drained of all color, trembled as she stammered, "I'm so sorry, Mr. Crawford! This was our organizing committee's oversight. Please believe me, we'll get to the bottom of this and make things right for your daughter!"
"Who the hell had the audacity to poison my precious daughter?"
Alfred's deafening roar filled the air as he fixed Caroline with an icy stare. "You answer me, what exactly happened here?"
All eyes were once again fixed on Caroline. Under the weight of their stares, she was so terrified that her knees nearly gave out beneath her.
She forced a ghastly smile that looked worse than death itself.
"I... I'm not really sure. Your daughter... your daughter had just placed her bid when she collapsed. By the time I rushed over at the sound of the commotion, she was already unconscious..."
Caroline's eyes darted around frantically for Kendall as she spoke. Spotting Georgia standing calmly in the distance, she quickly blurted out, "Come to think of it, your daughter had just called out the bid for Georgia's medication when the incident happened. Perhaps we should question Georgia about this."
To her surprise, Caroline chose this moment to throw Georgia under the bus. Unfazed, Georgia stepped forward.
Before she could speak, Alfred's gaze locked onto her face. "Are you Georgia?"
Hearing this, Georgia calmly met his gaze.
"Yes, that's me."
"Do you know how Iris was poisoned?" Alfred pressed sharply.
Georgia shook her head calmly.
"I have no idea how your daughter was poisoned. I merely delivered her croissant sandwich, that's all," she replied.
A voice suddenly called out from the crowd, "Oh! That's right! Miss Crawford collapsed right after having her croissant sandwich!"
Alfred fixed Georgia with a piercing, scrutinizing gaze and interrogated sharply, "Of all people, why would Iris ask you to deliver her croissant sandwich?"
He knew his daughter well. If she didn't think highly of someone, there was no way she'd ever let them lay a finger on her things.
"I didn't have breakfast this morning, so my sister ordered me some croissant sandwiches. When the delivery guy showed up, he said Miss Crawford had also ordered some, but he couldn't get through to her, so he asked me to deliver it to her."
Alfred narrowed his eyes, his gaze intently fixed on Georgia as she calmly recounted her story.
There was a clear sense of forthright honesty in her words.
Just then, Alfred's phone rang urgently. Seeing it was his son calling, he answered immediately.
"Dad, someone put sulfa powder in Iris's croissant sandwich."
Alfred exclaimed in disbelief, "Sulfa powder?"
