When she got back, Georgia discovered that not only had her patients failed to improve, but their conditions had actually worsened.
As she walked through the wards, she saw only four or five flustered intern nurses scrambling around, clearly overwhelmed.
Putting the patients first, Georgia immediately sprang into action, directing the nurses to work together and thoroughly examine each patient.
Just then, the phone at the nurses' stations suddenly rang. A young nurse answered on speakerphone, and instantly, a suave yet domineering voice came through.
"Transfer all your department's medical staff to Saylor Hospital immediately!"
Hearing the voice, Georgia frowned slightly. It was the spoiled heir, Samuel.
The young nurse asked into the phone, "Mr. Maxwell, is there something urgent?"
"Dr. Kirkland has taken on a major surgery and is short-staffed," Samuel commanded. "Drop everything and come help immediately."
One of the young nurses looked hesitantly at Georgia.
"Dr. Kirkland already took most of our staff from the department yesterday... Now we're really short-staffed here too..."
"Am I the director or are you? Stop wasting my time with excuses. When I say come, you come right away! If you don't want to, pack your bags and get out."
Samuel snapped impatiently, utterly exasperated. How dare a mere nurse from some small sanatorium talk back to him?
A moment of silence hung on the line. Georgia shot a sidelong glance at the landline, sneering inwardly. 'Gemma must be behind this again.'
Gemma hadn't performed a surgery in ages, and now she suddenly wanted to poach staff from Georgia's team for an operation. Gemma was clearly picking on her because Georgia had no backing.
Samuel was just Gemma's loyal lapdog. Of course, he would do whatever she ordered.
Georgia scoffed into the phone, "Mr. Maxwell, are you seriously trying to poach staff from my department now?"
Georgia's sudden voice caught Samuel completely off guard, and his face instantly darkened.
Remembering how he'd transferred her to the sanatorium the other day, a pang of guilt hit him.
He quickly blurted out, "No, no."
The moment the words left his mouth, Samuel felt a twinge of annoyance. 'Georgia was just an employee, how dare she lecture her own boss?'
"Saylor Hospital is such a huge institution, yet you can't even find a few competent medical staff? Even Gemma, the top doctor on the Top Doctors Ranking, has to come all the way to my sanatorium to poach staff for a surgery? Aren't you, the Director of Saylor Hospital, utterly ashamed to admit that?" Georgia shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Samuel was momentarily speechless.
'Damn! Why didn't I think of that? Now that woman, Georgia, must be looking down on me for no reason.'
"Did Gemma send you here to poach my staff?"
At this, Samuel's voice grew heavier.
"Gemma didn't know that you guys would be so busy. It wasn't intentional."
Georgia let out a cold laugh. She didn't even bother to take Gemma's petty schemes seriously.
"Our department is swamped right now. As a medical professional, patient care comes first. Whether it's you, Samuel, or Gemma, if you want to poach staff from me, you'll just have to wait. Patiently."
Hearing Georgia dared to speak so defiantly to Samuel, several young nurses became her fangirls in an instant.
