A kind stranger helped Alicia up from where she had fallen. She was already deathly pale with terror.
She scrambled to her feet in panic, still trembling with fear. The thought of hailing a cab by the roadside now filled her with dread.
She checked into a nearby luxury hotel, and only after soaking in the bathtub did Alicia finally begin to feel like herself again.
'It must be just a coincidence! The Crawfords already agreed to let me go—there's no way they'd send someone to kill me again!' Alicia tried to comfort herself.
Alicia tried to comfort herself. Exhausted from the intense stress of the previous day, a sleepless night at the police station, and the fresh shock she'd just endured, she collapsed onto the bed after her bath and drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.
She had no idea how long she'd slept before waking up with a start, starving. Checking the time, she saw it was already past 11 p.m. When her stomach growled, she realized she'd barely eaten anything in two days.
Still reeling from the day's terror, she wouldn't dare step outside at all. Instead, she ordered a lavish delivery meal straight to her room using her phone.
Half an hour later, a knock came at the door. Alicia checked through the peephole and saw it was her food delivery. Only then did she cautiously open the door.
Just as the delivery guy handed her the food, Alicia spotted a gleaming knife hidden beneath the takeout box. Panic surged through her, but without a second thought, she slammed the box right into the assassin's face. Seizing the moment he was caught off guard, she dashed out, screaming "Help!" at the top of her lungs as she fled for her life.
Wiping the splattered food from his face, the assassin immediately took off after her.
The assassin quickly caught the desperately fleeing Alicia. Fighting for her life, she lashed out—when he grabbed her hair, she stomped down hard on his foot with her stiletto heel. Wincing in pain, he let go of her hair, but in the same instant, his knife lashed out at her.
"Ahhh!" Alicia let out a bloodcurdling scream as the blade sliced deep into her face, leaving a severe gash.
The assassin's first strike missed, and he immediately raised his knife for a second attack—but just then, a security guard, alerted by Alicia's desperate cries, appeared at the stairwell entrance.
"Hey! What's going on here?" the security guard exclaimed.
Startled by the shout, the assassin abruptly abandoned Alicia, darted back into her room, and escaped through the window.
At this moment, Alicia slumped to the ground, paralyzed by terror, the bone-deep gash on her face exposed for all to see. She sat there in a daze, her courage utterly shattered by fear.
By the time she slowly regained her senses, she realized a crowd had already gathered around her.
In a blind panic, she scrambled out of the crowd, leaving her shoes behind entirely.
After fleeing the hotel, she huddled in a shadowy corner, trembling uncontrollably with fear.
Someone really wanted her dead.
Now, if she still couldn't see that someone was out to kill her, she'd have to be a complete moron.
Terrified out of her mind, she thought desperately, 'Who the hell wants me dead?'
'It couldn't be Georgia,' she thought frantically. 'Our feud isn't that bad—she wouldn't want me dead!'
'It can't be Caroline either,' Alicia thought. 'I've got dirt on her—she'd never dare risk mutual destruction with me.'
'That only leaves the Crawford family!' she thought in panic. 'Yes, it has to be them.'
Shaking with terror, she pulled her jacket over her head to hide her face from the crowd. Too afraid to risk a big hotel or the hospital where she might be recognized, she eventually found a dingy little motel off the beaten path and holed up there.
Terrified after surviving two assassination attempts, Alicia huddled in the darkness of her shabby motel room and frantically dialed Caroline.
"Caroline," she pleaded, her voice trembling with panic, "how's the plan to get me out of the country? I need to leave right now!"
Hearing the desperation in Alicia's voice, Caroline lounged smugly in her leather chair. Just as Gemma had predicted, Alicia had actually called her.
"Alicia, dear, visas don't get processed that fast. You're looking at least a month..." Caroline said, her tone both patronizing and dismissive.
