"No! I can't wait any longer! I don't care what you have to do—you must get me out of the country tomorrow!" said Alicia.
Caroline scoffed inwardly, 'How dare this bitch threaten me now?'
Feigning concern, she continued, "Tomorrow is absolutely impossible. You'll just have to wait a few more days... Honestly, what difference does a week or so make?"
A smug thrill coursed through Caroline. She suddenly realized just how exhilarating it was to hold someone's fate entirely in her hands.
"Caroline, I can't wait any longer! Please, you have to find a way to get me out tomorrow—even if it's just to another city for now..." Alicia pleaded, her face ghostly pale and her voice shaking so badly the words barely came out.
Alicia pleaded, her face ghostly pale and her voice shaking so badly the words barely came out.
"Why the sudden rush?" Caroline asked, feigning ignorance.
She knew exactly what was going on, but chose to play dumb.
"The Crawfords sent someone to kill me! Caroline, you have to get me out of here—now!"
Hearing this, Caroline smirked. "What an idiot," she sneered to herself. "Just as Gemma predicted, she really thinks it's the Crawfords after her!"
A sinister glint flashed in Caroline's eyes as she continued, feigning concern, "The Crawford family? Then you'd better stay hidden. I'll arrange to get you out immediately—but first, you'll need to tell me where you are."
"I'm hiding out in a cheap motel right now. The proper hotels all require ID, and I'm afraid the Crawfords might track me down if I stay anywhere too obvious," Alicia said.
Caroline thought, 'No wonder my men couldn't find that bitch anywhere—she's been holed up in some dingy motel all this time!'
"Just tell me the motel's name. I'll arrange for someone to pick you up," Caroline said.
After a long hesitation, Alicia finally gave up the motel's name.
The next day, sure enough, Alicia received a call from Caroline, "The visa's taking longer than expected, but I've got someone waiting downstairs at your motel. Let's get you to Arestrel first!"
"Yes, yes, yes! I'm coming right down!" Alicia exclaimed.
With that excited exclamation, she practically flew down the stairs.
Sure enough, a white SUV was already waiting for her downstairs.
"Ms. Manson, Professor Hutchinson sent me to take you to Arestrel," the driver said.
Without a second thought, Alicia pulled open the car door and climbed in. The vehicle started up and sped away.
Alicia kept her eyes glued to the car window. After more than an hour on the road, a growing sense of dread crept over her. It wasn't the way to Arestrel.
Alicia stared at the remote, dense wilderness ahead, her heart pounding. She furtively checked her phone—just as she feared, there was no cell service.
"Stop the car! Let me out!" Alicia shrieked, her voice laced with terror.
But the driver, as if deaf to her frantic pleas, kept driving.
Panic surging through her, Alicia frantically yanked open the car door and leapt out.
With a sickening thud, Alicia slammed onto the ground and tumbled several times. In that instant, the SUV mercilessly ran over her legs as she lay sprawled on the pavement.
"Ahhh!"
With Alicia's bloodcurdling scream still echoing, the killer stepped out of the car.
"Wh-what... what're you..." Alicia gasped, her voice barely a whisper.
Large beads of sweat streamed down Alicia's forehead as she watched the man pick up a jagged rock from the ground, weighing it deliberately in his hand while he advanced menacingly toward her.
Alicia sobbed desperately, "No... please... don't kill me! Don't kill me! I—"
Inside, she screamed in terror, "No... I'm still so young... I don't want to die yet..."
Before Alicia could even finish her plea, the man slammed the rock down on her head with a sickening thud. Blood erupted instantly as her body went limp and crumpled to the ground.
Three sickening blows. The man brought the stone down on Alicia's head three times in quick, brutal succession.
As her eyelids fluttered shut, she could faintly make out the distant murmur of a woman's voice.
Hearing voices approaching, the man spotted two women coming from a distance. He quickly tossed the rock aside, scrambled into the car, and sped away in a cloud of dust.
Alicia lay motionless in a pool of blood, her legs crushed beyond recognition. Whether she was still alive or not was anyone's guess.
