Felicia looked at the shattered glass, feeling a headache coming on.
She stated, "I don't think you truly like him. You just feel indignant. I don't get why you young people always go after those who don't like you. When it's not meant to be, why force it?"
"Anyway, your dad is really angry now, and I can't defend you anymore. Just forget about him. If you keep doing those despicable things, your dad will beat you to a pulp," Felicia warned.
Then, Felicia returned the New Year's gift Irene had sent over.
Irene could tell what was going on when she saw that all the gifts had been returned by the Larkin family.
From now on, Irene would not be meeting with Simona anymore.
Before this, Irene could defend Simona, saying she merely wanted to take care of the drunk Jonathan when she followed him into his house.
Yet, it was revealed now that Simona had added aphrodisiac into the wine.
That day, Irene brought Simona back to the Lynn residence. Simona had brought a lot with her, but Irene didn't notice she had also brought along some wine. Wanting to give Jonathan and Simona some space, Irene left quickly.
It was because of Irene's carelessness and blind trust in Simona that she let her stay at the Lynn residence, not expecting her to sneak drugs into the wine in advance.
Irene always thought Simona was a simple and lovable girl. She never imagined Simona would do something like this. And so, her impression of Simona got worse.
Irene texted Jonathan: [I won't try to set you up with Simona anymore, but you still need to date someone. I'll keep pestering you every day until you remarry.]
Jonathan did not reply.
Meanwhile, Teresa had just picked up some medicine from the hospital.
Because of Jonathan, she was in unbearable pain and had to get some medication from the gynecology department. Fortunately, Jennifer was not on duty; otherwise, Teresa would have died from embarrassment.
On the drive home from the hospital, she saw many couples holding hands and some street vendors selling flowers.
Checking the calendar, she realized it was a special day for couples. She could not understand why there were so many special days for couples in a year, and now there was even one in January.
The already traffic-heavy road became even more congested. When she finally got back to her residential area, the security guard waved at her, letting her know that Jonathan's car, the one that often showed up, was parked to the side.
Teresa parked next to Jonathan's Maybach. She unbuckled her seatbelt with a hiss and slowly got out of the car, her legs still aching.
"Where have you been? I called you so many times and you didn't answer," Jonathan demanded.
"I was driving and my phone was on silent." Teresa frowned. "What's that in your hand?"
Jonathan handed her the medicine he had bought. Teresa looked inside to find lozenges and some gynecological medicine intended for external and internal use.
She asked, "Why did you buy all this?"
"What do you think?" Jonathan spoke. "Who complained yesterday that she couldn't talk because her throat was raw, and that her legs hurt so much she couldn't walk?"
He added, "Look at you now. You can talk and walk perfectly fine."
Teresa was rendered speechless by his words. She glared at him. "I just got back from the hospital. I bought the same medicine as you did."
Jonathan frowned. "Then apply it a few more times. It'll help the swelling go down faster."
"Alright, are you done yet? Aren't you worried someone might hear us?" She glanced around nervously.
Jonathan chuckled. "What are you worried about? Who else would even understand what we're saying besides the two of us?" Just then, his phone rang.
He saw it was a notification from the airline. Then, he grabbed a large bouquet of roses from the trunk, along with gifts. He also handed Teresa a necklace he had bought for her.
"And this chocolate is for you. It's your favorite white chocolate," Jonathan voiced.
Meanwhile, Teresa mused, 'These things are meant for couples celebrating this special day. We're not a couple.'
"I don't want them. Take them back," she said.
"If you don't want them, just throw them in the trash! I've got a flight at 7:30 p.m. this evening. I'm off to handle some business abroad for a few days." Jonathan checked his watch. "I have to go."
He had planned to take a few more days off in January, but his business partner didn't have the same plan.
Also, some business deals needed Jonathan to attend to personally, making him feel like he had barely got any days off all year.
Meanwhile, Teresa held a bunch of items in her arms—the medicine he bought for her, along with the flowers and gifts.
"Hey," Teresa called out to Jonathan, who was about to drive off. "How about I give you a ride?"
Jonathan slowly turned around.
Teresa explained, "Otherwise, you'd have to park your car at the airport and get Christian to drive it back. I can drive you, and you can leave your car here until you return from your trip."
Jonathan didn't refuse. "Sure."
He handed Teresa the keys to his Maybach for safekeeping, planning to pick them up once he got back from his trip.
Teresa glanced up toward her unit, wondering if Michael was at home behaving himself.
She unlocked her car, turned it around, and drove Jonathan to the Nareigh International Airport.
"Why the change of car?" Jonathan asked, adjusting the seat to accommodate his long legs.
Teresa answered, "Not a fan of Porsche anymore. Audi's pretty nice too. A friend said a car is just for getting around, so I thought I'd save where I can."
"How much can you really save?" Jonathan questioned.
Teresa snorted. "I'm not like you, driving a Rolls-Royce and a Maybach."
Something struck Jonathan. He said, "The BMW we used for our wedding is still in the garage. I never sold it."
Teresa was puzzled. "Why not? It's not like you need the money from that car."
Jonathan looked in her direction. "We shared so many memories in that car. I drove it everywhere with you as my passenger. That was the only car we had back then."
Teresa thought, 'Yeah, that was his only car back then.' Lost in the memories, she smiled. "You've got a lot of cars now, right? How many? Are there 20 or 30?"
"Nope." Jonathan massaged his temple tiredly. "I'm reluctant to spend so much. It's always been the same old habit. Every time I spend more on myself, I think it means less for you."
To outsiders, he seemed to make a lot of money. Yet, he never really bought clothes for himself.
Teresa's grip on the steering wheel tightened. "We've both moved on... You should take better care of yourself."
After all, when they divorced, Irene had told Teresa. "My son could achieve so much more without you. It's you who held him back."
"Maybe it's just a habit." Jonathan leaned against the seat. "I didn't mind spending a lot on you while we were married, but when it came to myself, I was always stingy."
Teresa suddenly felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.
She said, "What kind of gift do you want? I'll buy it for you."
After all, Teresa could make money now. While the Teresouth Group didn't rake in as much as Jonathan did, buying him a proper gift was still within reach. Besides, he had already given her so much.
Jonathan was just about to speak, but Teresa saw through his intentions and interrupted him.
"We're not getting back together," she said.
Jonathan did not know how to respond.
He voiced, "I truly don't have anything particular in mind, but if I must say something, I'd like to have a child."
