"When I have time, I'll take you to a theme park, and we'll watch the fireworks together, okay?"
Michael huffed, "Hmph, just take Aunt Isabel. You went to pick her up first, not me. I called you and you didn't answer. Do you not love me anymore?"
Teresa quickly explained, "I picked Isabel up first because Sanford's place is closer to the airport. It just made sense to go there first and then come to get you. As for your call, I was in Strico and couldn't answer because of the situation.
"I'm really sorry, sweetheart. I didn't mean to miss your call. I overslept, and I have had a headache for the past couple of days. It's not that I don't love you. I made you upset, and I'll do better, okay?
"Please forgive me this time, will you, my sweetheart?"
Teresa kissed Michael on the cheek. Michael let out a huff and grumbled, "Don't think I'm always this soft, little boy!"
"It was my fault. From now on, I'll answer your calls even if I'm asleep. Sorry for making you upset, buddy," Teresa coaxed, and Michael finally cheered up.
Michael clung to Teresa's arm. "Mom, when is Grandma coming back? Is Aunt Isabel going to stay with us forever?"
"She'll be back soon," Teresa replied.
"But that's what you said last time," Michael said.
"I'll give her a call and ask. Then I'll let you know," Teresa promised.
Only then did Michael nod. "Mom, can you spend more time with me? I get so lonely by myself."
"Of course, sweetheart," Teresa said.
Teresa was due for a prenatal checkup, so she reached out to Jennifer.
Jennifer was genuinely surprised. "Wow, what's the occasion? You actually came to me instead of another doctor?"
After getting dressed, Teresa handed over her patient ID card to Jennifer, not mentioning anything about her business trip.
"No need for that. You're my sister. Forget the fee," Jennifer said.
Teresa shook her head. "Let's keep it official. Just put the consultation fee on my card."
Jennifer sighed and said to Teresa, "The baby's fine, but have you been pushing yourself too hard again? The heartbeat's a bit irregular."
Teresa looked a bit guilty. "Got it. I'll be more careful from now on."
"Why did you tell Sanford that Isabel is your daughter? Did Evelyn really ask you to take care of her?" Jennifer asked, stopping Teresa as she tried to leave.
Talking about this made Teresa angry. "You told me to trust your friend and that he wouldn't betray you. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't betray me. Did you know he even did a DNA test on Isabel and me?"
Jennifer pressed her lips together and said, "You and Isabel don't look anything alike. It's clear you're not her real mom. I told him that you had a son. If I'd said it was a girl, normal people like him would definitely start asking questions."
"Yeah, he's normal, and you're normal. Well, I'm not normal. I'm just being paranoid, right? Fine," Teresa snapped, turning to leave.
Jennifer grabbed her arm. "Why is it that every time we see each other lately, we end up fighting? When did we start being like this?"
Teresa shook off her hand. "Like I said, if you want my respect, then act in a way that deserves it. Stop just telling me how to live my life."
Jennifer let out a long sigh. "I've been feeling really down these days. I just wanted someone to talk to. I don't have any close girlfriends. You're the only sister I have. I wanted to open up to you, but you just..."
"You already have everything. What more could you possibly be unhappy about? I really don't want to hear your self-pitying, pointless complaints," Teresa said.
She turned to leave, but a cold voice sounded behind her. "I'm pregnant."
Teresa froze, completely stunned, thinking she must have misheard.
But Jennifer wasn't joking. She repeated expressionlessly, "I'm having Donald's baby."
