The air was heavy with silence, but it wasn’t the uncomfortable kind. It was the kind that settles after something real has been shared — that moment between two hearts learning to speak without words.
Leah stood by the window, watching raindrops trace stories down the glass. The soft patter outside was the only sound in the apartment. Jade was on the couch, curled up in a blanket, her eyes following Leah like a quiet tether that refused to break.
Earlier that day, they had argued. Not loudly, not cruelly — but the kind of disagreement that left an ache. Misunderstandings. Old fears surfacing. Leah had shut down, her instinct to walk away still hardwired in her. But she hadn’t walked far. Only to the window. Only to breathe.
And Jade let her.
That was the difference now.
Jade didn’t push. She simply waited. Present. Patient. Loving.
Minutes passed before Leah turned. Her expression was soft, yet vulnerable, as if she was still carrying the weight of words she didn’t know how to say.
“I’m sorry,” she finally whispered.
Jade sat up, the blanket slipping from her shoulders. “You don’t have to be. I get scared, too.”
Leah walked over, hesitating only a moment before settling beside her. Their fingers found each other slowly, intertwining like they always belonged that way.
“I’m trying,” Leah said, her voice trembling. “Even when I don’t know how to say the right things.”
Jade smiled gently, brushing a strand of hair behind Leah’s ear. “You don’t have to say everything. Sometimes… I feel it. In the way you look at me. In how you stay, even when it’s hard.”
They sat there, hands clasped, the soft hum of rain wrapping around them like a lullaby. No grand declarations. No dramatic apologies. Just closeness. Just warmth.
And then, Jade leaned in — not to kiss her lips, but to rest her forehead against Leah’s.
Leah closed her eyes, exhaling softly. That touch said more than any words could.
It said: I’m here.
It said: We’re okay.
It said: We’re learning this… together.
