("Some kisses aren't about passion.
They're about promise.")
The rain came unexpectedly.
Not a storm—just one of those soft, steady drizzles that made the city blur into watercolor. The kind that made everyone rush under awnings or pull up their jackets.
But Leah and Jade didn’t run.
They stood outside the used record store, a paper bag of vinyls between them, caught somewhere between laughing and shivering.
“I told you the clouds looked suspicious,” Jade teased, holding their lone, small umbrella between them.
“It’s romantic,” Leah said, brushing damp strands of hair off her face. “Like one of those indie films you pretend not to like.”
Jade rolled her eyes. “I do like them.”
Leah smirked. “You just pretend not to, so people think you’re cool.”
Jade turned, raising an eyebrow. “Are you calling me out in the middle of the rain?”
“I’m just saying,” Leah said, stepping closer, “you like soft things more than you admit.”
Jade looked at her, water beading along the edge of her lashes.
“You’re not wrong.”
They walked in silence for a while, umbrella barely big enough to cover them both. Shoulders bumping. Fingers brushing.
And somewhere along that quiet walk—
something shifted.
Not loudly. Not dramatically.
Just quietly.
Like a moment that knows it’s already meaningful.
Jade suddenly stopped in the middle of the sidewalk.
Leah turned. “What—?”
But Jade was already looking at her, something unreadable in her expression.
Then she leaned in.
Slow. Unhurried.
And kissed her.
Not hungrily.
Not for show.
But with intention.
With feeling.
With every unsaid thing that had built between them over the last few weeks—the gentle trust, the late-night laughter, the fear and the bravery.
When they pulled apart, Leah blinked up at her.
“That felt… different,” she whispered.
Jade nodded. “Because it was.”
They kept walking.
Hand in hand.
The umbrella forgotten.
Rain on their skin.
Vinyls tucked under Leah’s coat.
Hearts wide open.
Some kisses stay with you.
Not because they were perfect—
but because they meant something you can’t explain.
Only feel.
