“Why hasn’t anyone filled me in on this incident?” Mrs. Walker appeared genuinely baffled yet curious, eager to learn more about Turner’s well-being.
“Because it didn’t go down in our pack, and we’re not connected to Turner,” Maya said, nonchalantly shrugging. She aimed to signal to Mrs. Walker not to invest too much emotion in someone unrelated.
“A kid is at death’s door-” Maya cut off any potential argument from Mrs. Walker and shifted her attention to me.
“So? People kick the bucket every day. Do you want Ian to go donate blood to every Tom, Dick, and Harry?” Maya’s nonchalant shrug was getting under my skin.
“I’ll ask Ian to come meet you,” Mrs. Walker responded, in stark contrast to Maya’s surprise. Maya was taken aback to hear her mother-in-law not yell at me or kick me out of their mansion.
“Thanks,” I whispered.
“Wait! Don’t you remember how she hurt your son? Why on earth do you want to help her now?” Maya surprised me by yelling at Mrs. Walker, who was taken aback but didn’t retort. I wondered what was going on here.
Mrs. Walker once held sway over the pack. How did Maya get away with disrespecting her? Was Ian so enamored with Maya that he permitted her to undermine his own mother?
“And you! Get out of here. After your son treated me poorly, and you kicked Ian out pf the hospital while everybody heard you accusing him of being the reason your son was in that state, how can you shamelessly come here and ask for his blood? Imagine my shock when the driver told me that you kicked Ian out of the hospital.” Maya was like a snake; she knew all about my son’s condition but just didn’t care.
“But since you started it,” she pointed, ‘guards! Kick her out and don’t let her in again.” She dismissed me with a wave of her hand. The two burly guards arrived and held me by my arms. I noticed the protest Mrs. Walker was making, but Maya seemed stubborn.
“No! HUNTER!” I yelled, hoping maybe he would come downstairs and understand.
“HUNTER!” I screamed again, and I saw Maya getting agitated. She nervously looked upstairs to make sure Ian wasn’t coming downstairs to answer my calls.
“Cover her damn mouth!” Maya muttered under her breath at the guards, but before they could do so, I saw Ian appear at the top of the staircase. “Stop!” he yelled at the guards, quickly buttoning up his blue shirt as he rushed downstairs. He must have been in the shower, which explained why it took him some time to appear.
“Babe! She’s here to accuse us again. Let her go,” Maya quickly nudged his arm, but I noticed that Ian never looked away from my face.
“Let her go,” he glared angrily at his guards, who finally released me. I approached him with trembling confidence.
“My son needs your blood,” I repeated, clasping my hands together in front of him, pleading for mercy.
“I’ll get my keys, and then we can-‘ He paused as Maya objected.
“Why? Aren’t you going to ask her why she only wants your blood when the blood has already been arranged?” The strange thing was that Maya eerily knew a lot about what was happening in the hospital. Was she keeping an eye on me?
“Is it true?” Ian looked at me, questioning. I nodded but didn’t stop there.
“He needs your blood,” I said and lowered my head.
Tears welled up in my eyes. I hid the secret from him, fearing he’d demand custody. I, alone, bore the challenges of childbirth and raising our son. How could I split custody with someone who never once considered checking up on me?
“Why?” Maya yelled, trying to reach me so she could push me back. Ian raised his arm between us to stop her advancing steps.
“I can ask these questions. Can you shut up for a minute?” He yelled at Maya, who grumpily sighed.
“Why only my blood?” Ian questioned, lowering his head to get a good look at my face. “The doctor said he needs blood immediately,’ I uttered again, hoping I wouldn’t have to tell him that Turner is his son. I was a fool because Ram would tell him anyway.
“He is your son,” I added, and my blood ran cold. For a minute, I didn’t hear a single noise. Then, someone pushed me so hard that I lost my balance and almost fell to the ground. I struggled to stay standing while Maya stepped between us angrily. Her eyes showed the anger she felt at the news.
“What the heck did you say?” she yelled, screaming at the top of her lungs and shaking in rage.
“He is my son’s heir?” Mrs. Walker gently placed a hand on her heart. The fact that she was worried about Turner even before finding out about this news showed that she still had a heart.
But Maya, she was completely different from her. She was so self-absorbed, glaring at me as if she had no idea. If Turner is indeed his son, that means the woman she played to be kicked out of the pack was pregnant with the alpha king’s son.
“Ashlyn!” Ian suddenly pushed Maya aside and reached me, grabbing my arm to shake my body.
“What are you saying?” he hissed at me, his hand applying a lot of pressure on my arm.
“It’s true. The doctor found out-“I paused when he hissed.
“And you didn’t know all this time?” he frowned, perhaps hinting at the idea that he believed I had lied about the miscarriage back then because I wasn’t sure if the DNA test would come out positive. I didn’t have time to go through that same insane trial once again.
“He needs your blood. He doesn’t have time,’ I begged him, and as our eyes met, I saw a surge of emotions in his eyes.
“You not only cheated on me but left the pack carrying my child and deprived me of him for years,” he screamed, shaking my body by applying pressure on my arm.
“Ian!” Mrs. Walker slapped the back of his hand and glared at him.
“Right now, my grandson needs your blood. You two can fight as much as you want once he’s healed. So I suggest you both grow up and hurry to the hospital,” she seemed so worried that she kept her wolf glare at her son.
“Why? He doesn’t have to take any obligations. She didn’t want him as her son’s father, so-” As Maya continued to surprise everyone with her cold-heartedness, Ian finally turned to her and pointed his finger at her face.
“My son needs my blood,” he muttered, finally deciding to come with me.
