ALPHA JASON'S MATE - Chapter 23: Chapter 23

Jason POV
What Max told me made me thoughtful. How could Paula do this? I couldn't understand, but I knew that Max couldn't be lying, neither could Catherine lie to him, and I didn't think Bella lied to Catherine.
It seems like she was made to leave this pack by someone. The words she said to me while I carried her told me that someone made her leave. She could have left because of how I spoke to her but my mind told me that someone was involved.
"How can it be Paula?" I asked myself.
My wolf grumbled and said that he didn't like Paula.
"Now that we have our mate, can you just let Paula leave?" Jack asked.
I squinted my eyes and shook my head. I have been with Paula since, and if I wanted to stop seeing her, I wouldn't choose Bella. I don't want to be emotionally attached to Bella.
I walked out of the room I was in and the first person that I saw was Paula.
"Jason!" She called, her finger tracing my jaw. "Why did you bring her back."
Her seductive tone was enough to relieve me.
"I am not in the mood for anything," I said and walked away.
The thought that she said those words to Bella made me angry. She shouldn't have behaved like that. Was she scared? Moreover, some words were lies. I never said anything like she is my Luna.
"I would need to ask Bella some questions," I said to myself.
I knew that for me to accomplish this, I would need to spend the night in the room with her.
"Jason," I heard and looked up.
It was Max. He told me about all the information he had gotten about the Oak pack. It's such a pity that Bella escaped to their pack but now I wasn't going to fight anyone but get the pack to be part of my territory.
Smiling, I followed Max to check the information he had gotten. I would make the pack one of my territories, and if the Alpha refuses, I promise a war.
"Why are you keen on getting this land? The people fear you," Max said and I smiled.
"Since Bella stepped on it, it's our territory," I said.
Max wore a smile and when I asked him, he asked me when I started caring for Bella.
"Do I really care about her?" I asked myself.
"Yes, you do," My wolf said.
I guess I began to care about her when I heard about her escape.
"I care for her as my mate and not my partner," I said.
After reading through, my wolf asked me if I was still willing to take it.
"They took care of Bella and didn't kill her because she escaped from this pack. The least you can do is appreciate them," Jack and said.
"Ah," I itched my hair. My wolf was considerate because they saved Bella. If it was another person, he wouldn't care.
Giving in to his demand, I sent a guard to take care of it.
I spoke to Max about other things and left. While walking I saw Paula standing by the way. I wanted to ignore her, but after much deliberation, I walked to her.
If she still doesn't believe that Bella is my mate then that will be great. None of them should guess that she is my mate.
Catherine posed as a friend to Bella so no one knew that she was also caring for the Luna.
"Let's go," I said to Paula who smiled.
"Alpha, when will you make me your Luna?" She asked.
I looked at her with a smirk on my face. Never had I answered such a question, but she never stopped. I should say that I had a soft spot for Paula but not as my mate.
Seeing that I didn't respond, Paula didn't ask again making me impressed. This is the reason I have been with her for some times.
"You said that the pack needs Bella?" She asked and I nodded. "Is she your Luna?"
Her question made me give her a cold stare and she immediately laughed.
"Where are you going?" She asked and I smiled.
"Out to walk," I said.
"Alright, let's go together," she said.
I frowned at the thought of walking with a lady who insulted my mate but I couldn't reject her. After all, I didn't want her to know that I had found my mate.
I was also the one who made her believe that I love her. We've been together for a while and that isn't what I do. I stay with a lady for a short time, then change to another lady, but Paula is special.
We walked together and she gave everyone we saw on the way a cold stare. I knew she did it just to tease people but she is going to pay after the war ends.
"Why do we need Bella to end this war?" She asked while we wait walking. "Only the Luna can."
I smiled and didn't utter a word but held her close to myself.
"You shouldn't think about that now," I said and kept walking.
I felt a piercing gaze looking at me and when I looked back, I saw Bella. A smile crossed my lips as our eyes met.
She wouldn't know that I was doing it for her benefit. She would think that I despise her.
I smiled and continued walking with Paula, and I didn't allow her to look back. If she looks back then she will get to know that I was looking at Bella and might do something wrong.
Oh, am I losing it? Why so much care for Bella?
"Because she is our mate," I heard. I have seen some Alpha who didn't marry their mate and lived peacefully with the lady they married, but I wasn't interested in marrying anyone who wasn't meant for me.
I took a deep breath and continued walking with Paula.
