ALPHA JASON'S MATE - Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Jason POV
I sat in the cabin flipping through some paperwork. Minutes later, I closed my eyes to rest when I heard a noise outside.
"I got hurt," I heard and got up wanting to know the situation.
I always came into the room late and left early when Bella was still asleep. I had headache as I haven't had enough rest since I started investigating this case. It would have been better if I included someone to help me work in this case but since most of them stood with Paula, I couldn't take chances.
After I found Bella, I knew that she could help me make this easy by acting, but I never thought she would be a great actress.
But thinking about the sound that I just heard, it's from a pack member. I wanted to go out but thought against it. If I go out, I may encounter Samantha as the Alpha and this is the reason I want to marry Bella in five weeks.
Everyone believes that I want to marry Paula. They should. I knew that it was hurting to both Max and Catherine but it's for sometime.
While I was in my thoughts, my door flew open and I met with Bella who closed the door.
"You do not want Samantha to know about me, and you are here?" I asked.
Bella didn't answer and this made me upset.
I pushed towards her and she moved back. I didn't care if she was scared but pushed her to the wall and planted a kiss on her cheek. She showed her shyness and this made me laugh.
I held her chin up and kissed her passionately.
"Alpha!" She called when I retreated.
Oh, what is happening to me? Have I started to like her? I want to marry her so that I will have my mate by my side and no one will be able to stand before us.
I touched my hair and returned to my seat after locking the door. I didn't want Max to see us together or one of my button yanked off.
"Why did you come here?" I asked looking at her face and she blushed.
However, what she said next made me laugh. She asked me for my reason for the wedding.
"You do love her, so why are you deceiving me," she asked, angrily.
This made me laugh I told her to look directly into my eyes and only then would I tell her my mind.
She blushed as she raised her head to look into my eyes.
"Do not get worried about her," I said.
She blinked and I knew that she had so many questions in her heart but I wasn't going to let her ask.
"I will be getting married to my mate in the next five weeks and that will also lead to the other person paying for her sin," I said.
Before Bella could say anything, there was a knock on my door. It was Max and I didn't want him to see Bella here so I walked to the door and gave him a task.
After he had left, I waited for some minutes before going to Bella.
"You need to keep acting," I said. "You may leave."
Minutes later, Max walked in to meet me.
"Alpha, what's is the meaning of that task? To give Paula the drug?" He asked.
Only then did I realize that I gave him a wrong task. I checked through the files that were on my desk and saw the task that I was meant to give him.
"I am sorry," I said and handed him the file.
"Meeting with the elders?" He asked and I nodded.
I told him that I was meant to give the first task to a woman on a date. Thankfully, he hadn't given the drug to Paula.
Max furrowed his brows and asking if I was planning something dangerous for Paula. I knew that he was asking that because of the message in the file that I first gave him so I gave a negative response saying that Paula wasn't feeling fine.
I knew Max enough to discuss it with his wife and Catherine to Bella and it was good. I didn't want anyone apart from the three to hear that.
If this gets to Paula's ear, my plan might remain unfulfilled.
Max left me office to attend the meeting with the elders. This left me to this.
I returned my attention to the paperwork in front of me. It was stressful than soon I fell asleep.
When I woke up, I decided to check on what was happening outside through the window. It was lively outside but I couldn't go out because of my work.
I saw Bella and Samantha walking together. A smile formed on my face as I remembered that once it was Catherine who always walk around with Bella.
The day began to get darker and Max stepped in with two plates of groundnuts and eggs. He sat in front of me and slid a plate to me.
While eating, I saw through his sad expression and asked him.
"Congratulations, the elders are planning your marriage," Max said.
I smiled and remembered an elder who could easily read through circumstance. He would know that I wasn't marrying Paula. Thankfully, he didn't divulge anything to people so I felt happy.
"They are doing a good thing," I said to Max who gave a weird smile.
We continued eating and I asked for how the meeting went. Max told me every details of the meeting and I felt happy for it's successful conclusion.
"Your mate is in pain and I do not feel happy with your decision," he said.
I mentally gave her a thumbs up. She is really acting her part and no one suspect her.
"After my marriage, no one should hear that Bella is my mate," I said.
"Because she is a rogue," Max said making me smile.
