Jason POV
I sat on the bed worried about Max. He had fully recovered now, but he said that he won't accompany us to the battlefield.
It was an early morning and Bella was still asleep. I would say that I was tired but also worried. Every paperwork had been done so I had nothing else to do.
Suddenly, I felt a hand wrapped around my neck from behind and knew that it was Bella.
"Why can't you act normal?" I asked.
It was fun to be with her, but I didn't love her, or should I say I didn't believe in love anymore. She was like my friend and since the pack also needed her, it would be good.
Taking her hands off my neck, I pulled her to my lap, but unexpectedly, she kissed me on the lip.
She wore a smile as she laid on my lap.
"Do not try anything funny," I said and she laughed.
She sat up and glared into my eyes.
"You need to be romantic before taking me on a battle," she said.
My wolf was happy but I wasn't. Was she trying to threaten me?
"No Alpha, I am not trying to threaten you," she said with a smile on her lip.
If that is what will allow her to attend, then I will be romantic to her.
"Well, you can stop being romantic after I help the pack win," she said.
I was shocked and thought of what she could mean by that. Could it be that for me to be romantic to her, she would make us lose?
"No, I won't," she said and looked at my face.
Only then did I notice that I wore a cold expression.
I grabbed her by the hair and roughly kissed her.
Hearing a knock on the door, I left Bella, who was smiling and opened the door. It was an Omega. She walked in with an Omelette and said that it was from Samantha to Bella.
Bella got angry and was about to touch it but I pushed her away. I felt like the food was poisoned but why would Samantha do this? Was she working for Paula?
"I can sense that this food is poisoned," I said.
Bella expressed her shock and asked why Samantha would do that.
If it was Samantha who planned it then she would be executed.
Without waiting for any word from Bella, I went to flush the omelet and rinsed the plate.
Bella argued with me about the reason I threw the food because of my suspicion.
There was no need to explain anything to her. She could believe anything she wanted to believe. The truth would be out soon.
Time passed and we walked out. Samantha hugged Bella immediately she saw her and I huffed.
Such a betrayal.
"Thank you for the Omelette but I couldn't eat it," Bella said.
Samantha did like she knew nothing about the Omelette but I didn't believe her. I walked past them and called for all the kitchen staff to gather.
When I called the Omega who delivered the Omelette, who made her do it, she pointed to Samantha who wore a shocking expression and said that she didn't do it.
I slightly believed Samantha's words, but I couldn't be like her friend.
I ordered that Samantha and the Omega should be arrested in the house prison while I made my investigation.
I didn't pour all the Omelette in the toilet because I wanted Bella to see it through an experiment and showed her the little that I saved.
"I will send this to the laboratory for testing," I said.
"What if it is discovered that it hasn't been poisoned?" She asked.
I answered her that they would be released and I would compensate them, but if it was poisoned, I would investigate the matter thoroughly to find the culprit.
She nodded and told me that Samantha could never have done such a thing. I got irritated by her continuous support of Samantha and really hoped that the test would be done as quickly as possible.
I walked out of the room and saw Max walk down. The lab technologist walked in, and I passed the little omelet that I had saved to him.
"I will get back to you in the evening, Alpha," he said, took a bow, and left.
Catherine walked to my front and asked me what happened, and I explained everything to her.
"He can detect if something is poisoned," Max said.
Catherine nodded and walked to our room. I knew that she wanted to see Bella.
I told Max about how I was suspicious of Samantha. As the saying goes, a close friend can be the closest enemy.
Max patted my back and we decided to go to the cabin together.
In the cabin, I tried not to think about the poison issue.
A smile crossed my lips as I thought of the kiss. Max tapped my hand and asked why I was smiling and I told him about the kiss.
"You are in a romantic marriage, right?" Max asked.
Only then did I realize what I said. If we were to be in a romantic marriage there won't be a need for me to smile when I remembered that we kissed. Why did I smile when I remembered that we kissed?
Putting that aside, I began to speak with Max.
"Are you scared that something will go wrong in the battle?" I asked.
Max looked at me and shook his head.
"You have your mate," he said.
I felt like it was a burden to him whenever he accompanied me and asked him. However, he replied negatively and told me that he needed a month's rest as he wasn't sure if he was able to battle.
"Strangely, I just recovered," he said.
With this word of his, I could justify the reason he didn't want to participate. It won't be nice of me if I allow him into the battle.
"Get better," I said.
