Bella POV
What reason can he have to be like this and I can't be like this?
Anyway, I should be happy that he touched me. Although it wasn't romantic, it made my heart happy.
"Jason, tell me that you love me," I pleaded in my heart.
We got to a hut and Jason got down and walked over to my side.
"You should get down," he said.
I got down and together we walked into the hut. It was decorated and looked more beautiful than its outside. Everyone who saw us greeted Jason and stared at me. I knew they thought that I was a plaything like his former girls but no, I was going to introduce myself.
"Hi," I said, stretching out a hand, but Jason brought it down.
"Do not greet them," he whispered.
It was shocking to me that he said something like that. I wasn't greeting them but I wanted to introduce myself as his mate.
Jason asked for a certain woman who was called out. The woman smiled when she saw Jason and then looked at me.
"An epitome of beauty. The goddess chosen one. Daughter of the gods. One with a heart of gold. She can command nations," the woman said, walked closer to me and touched my cheek, and continued, "The one with power. She can command success and destruction."
The old woman fell to her feet.
"Annie! You can see from heaven. She is the one we have been waiting for,"
I looked at Jason and asked if she was my grandmother or his but he didn't respond rather, he just smiled.
"I can rest in peace," the old woman said, breathing erratically.
I stretched out my hands to her but Jason stopped me.
"She can die," I whispered.
It felt like the old woman heard my whisper. She laughed.
"I am too old not to have died. I have to go to my ancestor. Keep this pack well and please the goddess," she said.
Immediately she made an end to her statement, Jason held my hand and we turned. All the people who were by the way stood by a lane.
"The woman is too old," I said.
"She has been alive just for a purpose,"
"What purpose?"' I asked.
"To see you," he said.
I understood very well all the questions that were boiling in my heart.
But who is Annie?
I contemplated on asking him and after sometimes I finally asked him. His answer made me shake. Annie was a child from Crescent pack just like me and knew that the suffering of Dark pilot pack was going to end by a member of her pack. She stayed in the old woman's house as a daughter and they were all waiting for my coming to the pack since twenty years ago.
Annie was killed in an attack twelve years ago. From calculation, Jason was only a fourteen-year-old child then and wasn't an Alpha.
"Annie also didn't know her parents," Jason said.
Hours later, we headed back to the pack house and were welcomed back.
"You should prepare for tomorrow's welcome ceremony," Catherine said while we left.
I was sad because what I wanted didn't happen.
I wanted Jason to tell me something like he likes me or he loves me but he didn't say it. Why did he touch my hand then?
When I remembered what the old woman said, I couldn't help but smile. She made me know that I was important.
"You may put off your makeup," Jason said.
I shook my head as I wasn't expecting that word from him. It wasn't that I didn't want to take it off but he sounded like the makeup was making him uncomfortable.
"If you don't want to pull it off close to me then I will go out," he said.
After cleaning the makeup, I walked out of the room and saw Baby Jeff being carried.
"You brought a baby home?" Jason glared at me. "He can't be our child."
"He isn't," I replied. "I am taking care of him."
Sitting him down, I explained to him everything about Jeff and it related to me.
Jason's heart softened as he extended his hand to Jeff.
Jeff had grown into a sensible young boy. During the months he had been here, Jeff acted nicely. He played sometimes and only cried whenever he was hungry, sick, or heavy.
"Bring him along," Jason said as he walked to the room.
We sat on the bed and began to discuss about Jeff.
Jason, as always, was calm, and I didn't know when he fell asleep.
Seeing Jeff asleep, I called for Samantha to take him to his cottage. Jason changed and walked out. I gritted my teeth but needed to speak with Mattie.
"You told me..." I was saying when Mattie spoke up.
"Do not worry. I am sure that he would confess to you,"
I was impatient. Waiting for that three words seemed to me like I was punishing myself.
I felt emotions swirl around me as I remembered what happened in the vehicle. How he touched my hand.
"Let me also go out,"
I was done with reading the book of history and was reading another book in the Alpha's office. I hope Jason wasn't in his office.
I walked out and saw Samantha walk to me.
"What is your birth date?" She asked.
I looked up and smiled remembering what the orphanage said.
"I was found August 17. You can use that as my birth date,"
Anyway, that was the time I celebrated my birthday.
My thoughts went to the woman who adopted me, and I felt sad. If only she was alive, I wonder how happy she would be, knowing that her daughter is an Alpha mate.
"Is there anything on your mind?" Catherine asked and I could only smile.
"Nothing much," I said and left for Jason's office.
Along the way, I checked on Jeff before going to Jason's office.
