Hot anger coursed through me at the revelation. Now, it was my turn to threaten him. What if I had died?
“What do you mean you poisoned me?” I moved closer to him and gripped him by the neck before he would move away. I held him so tight by the neck that he gasped for air.
“You really planned to kill me as well, even though you knew I wasn't Gwen?” I yelled and tightened my hold around him.
“Let him go!” Rick yelled suddenly from around me, but I ignored him.
Now, I think this idiot guy has to die. What if I had really died that night? Xavier wouldn't have been able to survive, which meant that my pack wouldn't have survived too. The Alphas would have killed them all.
Now that I think about it. I've always thought Xavier was the worst. When I had the visions about Lucas and Gwen, I was scared. I wondered if it was true. If it was, then Lucas was worse than Xavier.
He really was. He was heartless.
Jude hurried closer to me and tried to pull my hand away, but I didn't budge.
Rowan howled beside me suddenly. I looked at him and realised he was entering the demon mood. Xavier does this every time. It was a line between being a werewolf and human. In this form, only some part of your body transforms, so the clothes don't rip.
Alpha does enter the demon wolf to force the lower werewolves to comply with whatever they want.
He must be trying to scare me to back off.
I clenched my teeth at him and started to enter the demon mood myself. Quickly, the white fur covered my hands and face.
Rowan's black eyes widened as he regarded me for a moment.
“The silver wolf!” Someone yelled behind me. I felt someone rush towards the entrance almost immediately.
I turned around and followed. It was one of the guards. I reached him within a blink of an eye. I chunked off some flesh off his skin and threw him right back into the prison.
He yelled in pain and went still.
The rest of the guards hesitated before then slowly going on their knees.
“Oh goddess! The Silver Wolf is right in our midst,” Jude mused.
I looked over at Rowan and slowly morphed back into human. I was still angry but not as I was the other time.
I moved closer. “Why? Why didn't your poison work on me?” I yelled out the question.
Lucas hesitated briefly and soon resumed laughter. “How am I supposed to know? I wished you dead. If I had known that would happen, then I would have killed you the other way. Now, I regret it. I should have taken the easy way out. I should have killed you before you shifted.”
I took a step forward in anger, and Lucas backed away in fear.
So, I was near death. I was almost dead. I didn't believe this. I was almost dead twice.
But I tried to calm down. Nothing good will come out of me getting angry. I could destroy the whole thing.
“So, now, your father knows I am from the Moon-like pack?”
Lucas went still.
“Answer me!” I ordered, and my voice sounded like the still water.
“Yes!” Lucas said quickly. “He knew the moment you stepped inside the pack house. That was why he planned to catch the Moon-like pack the night they were escaping and eventually kill them,” he revealed.
So, he was the one? It was Augustine who laid a trap for them that night.
“W...how?” Roman, who has been watching all this while, finally muttered.
I looked at him, noting the shocked expression on his face. “I personally gave you this. If there's anyone you really want to take, it should be Augustine. He and his son, Lucas, kidnapped your cousin.”
Rowan swallowed harder and eventually looked away. “I received a message from Augustine about Gwen. Would I have known that he in fact knew how Gwen disappeared?”
I looked over at Lucas. Our gaze held and locked for a moment.
“He had to do that,” Lucas said quickly, as if responding to my silence command. “He wanted you to wage war on Xavier and maybe kill him,” he explained.
Rowan closed his eyes for a moment. “I can't believe this.”
I scoffed. “Now that you do, you should only cut off the fingers that err you,” I turned to leave at this moment.
“Wait!” I was barely out of the prison when Rowan called from behind me. I stopped but didn't turn to him. So, he ran closer. “So, you are from the moon like pack.”
I nodded once. “Any problem with that?”
Rowan shook his head briefly. “Nothing but then that means you are from the east side, right?”
I nodded again, wondering where all the questions were leading to.
He smiled softly. “Thank you.”
I looked up at him. “What for?”
“For not letting me hurt the innocent people. Thank you,” he repeated.
I bowed slightly and stepped out eventually. I glanced at my wristwatch. It was barely after ten.
It's time, eventually, for Xavier to die.
I moved quickly towards Xavier's room. He should be waiting now. He told me to come anyway.
There was no man standing guard in front of Xavier's room. He must have sent them away.
But then, it felt weird all of a sudden. Just then, I could smell smoke. What was happening?
I raced forward quickly. I pushed the door open, and my eyes widened at what I was looking at.
Three men were fighting Xavier. Even without seeing their faces, I knew who they were. I could scent them.
“Ben! Jude!” I yelled, just as Xavier took Ben and smashed him against the wall.
They were no match for him anyway.
They all pulled to a stop at the sound of my voice and looked at me. I looked at Xavier. Our gaze held and locked for a moment. Then, he started towards me.
There was a dark frown on his face. He looked angry.
“I gave you the chance, Autumn,” he muttered. “I will not be ridiculed. If it's not you, no one will kill me!” He announced in a deep voice.
I suppressed a shiver. “I, Autumn Brooker, reject you,” I hesitated briefly and looked up at him.
His eyes were clear of emotions. I couldn't read him like the rest of the time.
“Xavier Colt as my mate.”
“I accept,” he said quickly, and I felt our bond loosen. Just immediately, I felt a stab of pain in my heart.
That was the least of it. When I finally kill Xavier, I will feel more. And I have to be well prepared for it.
Because this has to happen. Xavier has to pay for his sins with his life.
The elders of the Moon-like pack couldn't do anything now. They all stepped back and watched instead.
“It's time,” Xavier muttered.
I started again, diving as fast as I could into the demon mood, my eyes still on him.
I could feel my fur cover my face at a faster rate, but what was shocking was the carefree look on Xavier's face. He wasn't at all shocked.
Why? Does he know? No way! There's no way he would have known I was the silver wolf.
I slowly pulled out my claws and dug it at his heart.
He didn't move or even shift. His eyes were solidly on me.
As if he wanted to remember this moment. He would actually, action by action. This will be his last day anyway.
It is over!
