My eyes went dark and round with shock.
“That's not possible!” Mercury muttered beside me.
Shock kept me incoherent for a while. When I finally got my voice back, I found myself cracking with laughter.
“That's not possible.”
It doesn't even make any sense. Right, I'm the silver wolf, but with five different powers? It has never happened in history. I've heard of the six trances because my mom used to tell me their stories, but she didn't even tell me they had special powers. No one knew.
“Just because you don't have control of your powers now doesn't mean we are lying,” Pearl uttered.
Emerald nodded quickly. “We only relayed the Moon goddess message to you.”
Dylan moved closer to me. “Autumn, it doesn't look like these people are lying.”
It doesn't actually. The fact that they were even able to shift into the white wolf tells alot. The silver wolf was very rare. But then, I don't know what to believe in. A Lot was involved.
“Autumn,” a soft familiar voice called from behind me.
I glanced back at my mother. Oh yes, maybe all I need is clarification.
“Is something wrong?” She asked as she moved even closer. She looked over at the people, shocked for a moment. “The six trance?” Her eyes widened as she said this.
What? How did my mother recognise them.
“Mum, how?”
My mother went on her knees instantly. “The six trance!” She instantly started to cry.
I stared at her for a moment, shocked.
“What's going on?”
“Nice to meet you again,” Pearl muttered with a clear emotion.
Wait a moment!
“You have to be kidding me! How did you guys know each other?”
My mother didn't respond. Instead, she sob even harder. “You said you were going to get back to me. Why didn't you? I waited! Oh, I waited for so long!” She lamented.
I was so lost right now.
Father hurried out at this point and moved closer to Mother. Then, he soothed her.
I looked up at Pearl for an answer. “You better start talking.”
Pearl cleared her throat meaningfully but she still didn't say anything either.
“If you know you won't be talking, then you can get the heck out of my land!” I yelled, angrily.
Pearl finally released a sigh. “I will talk, Silver. I will say anything you demand from us. You are our new Alpha after all.”
They must be kidding themselves. I'm nobody Alpha but I needed to hear what they all had to say.
There was a slight hesitation from Pearl as if the words were too heavy to say.
“The six trance met your mother over twenty years ago. Your mother just got delivered of a child but she died. At that time, she and her sister were attacked. And we were able to save her.”
What?
Mother screamed out, “Where's my daughter? You said she would be alright. You promised me! Where is she now?”
I looked at mother.
“What daughter?”
At this point, confusion clouded my mind.
“Mum!” I called and moved closer to her. “Which daughter? Who am I then? What daughter are you talking about again?” I bombarded her.
My mother slowly looked up at me. Her face was reddish and puffy already. “Your sister.”
My what?
“Your twin sister, Autumn.”
No way!
I have a twin sister?
“She was—” My mother sucked in a breath. “She was as beautiful as you were. You guys were so much alike,” she muttered and looked away. “We were in a hurry to leave because we were under an attack. Besides, I thought she was the only one. I didn't know you were hiding inside. Just as Pearl got me out of harm's way, you started to come.”
“Wait a second! Is Silver the child you had that day?”
Mother nodded slightly. “She is.”
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was a twin?
“But mum! Why have you never told me this? Why?”
Mother started to shake her head. “I'm so sorry, my daughter. I didn't want you to blame yourself. When the six trance didn't get back to me, I decided to forget about her.”
I felt a stab of annoyance just hearing this. I looked up and advanced towards Diamond. I locked him by the chest angrily.
“Where is my sister? Why didn't you save her!”
Diamond shivered. That was strange.
“I swear, we went back! We went back to get her but_” he stammered. “She was suddenly gone.”
“What did you just say? She was gone?” My mother's tone showed how shocked she was, and it reflected mine.
Diamond nodded once. “Someone must have taken her. We had no clue, though. We just decided not to follow them. We had our cause to follow anyway. We couldn't abandon our quest for yours.”
“And this quest of yours led you back to me! How do you feel about that?”I yelled in anger.
Right! Their quest was finding the silver wolf. And I was the child of the mother they abandoned. If they had been a bit concerned, they would have discovered the person they were looking for all along was close by.
They all went mute.
I regarded Diamond for a moment before I let him go.
“Leave, I don't want to see you all.”
“We can't,” Sapphire confessed. “We've been bound to your pack the moment we set eyes on your wolf. We can't leave now. We can't be alone.”
What the heck are they talking about?
“We've been alive for two thousand years, while looking for the silver wolf. That's why we've multiplied and increased so much. But this pack doesn't even have an Alpha. But now that we've seen you, you will be our Alpha,” Ruby explained.
Isn't this too much for me?
I turned away for a moment, as my heart beat accelerated.
Autumn, calm down. You have to think carefully. I looked back at the people still on their knees. There were so many. They should be a bit over five hundred people. How could I lead them? How could I be their Alpha?
“Autumn,” a soft voice reached my ears.
I looked up at Mercury's smiling face.
“Come, I need to speak with you,” she muttered and started towards nowhere in particular.
I regarded my pack for a moment, then looked at Dylan.
Dylan gave me a reassuring smile. So, I hurried after Mercury. She stopped when she knew we were far away. She turned to look at me.
“What is it, Autumn? You seem disturbed.”
I nodded once. “I am,” I merely said.
I didn't know where I was supposed to start from. I only hope she has an idea.
“Well, I get it. A lot rests on your shoulders, Autumn. I mean, there must be a reason why the moon goddess gave you this power. You are destined to lead a lot of people. You shouldn't be intimidated by the numbers,” she said softly.
She was right. Pearl did say I had six different powers. The moon goddess definitely knew what she was doing.
“You are our Alpha now. And even though the moon-like pack has gotten smaller in size, it's not telling how much we would have been or would still be. Don't limit them. Asides, don't send them away when you should be taking them in. The silver bed is a comfortable place for people.”
I regarded her for a moment. “Can I handle all the news at once?”
Mercury smiled. “Why not? You handled it perfectly when we were still at Ocean Howl Pack. If it's about your sister, we can find her. She's not dead, you know?”
That's right.
I've always wanted to have someone beside me. I felt lonely those days except whenever Dylan was around.
I just wondered where my twin sister was and if she was fine wherever she was.
Mercury reached for my hands in an instant need to comfort. “You will be fine,” she assured. “I believe you.”
Yes, right. I've come this far already and I am the Alpha of the Moon like pack. Yes I can do this!
I pulled Mercury into a bear hug and patted her slightly. “Thank you.”
I pulled away almost immediately and walked back to the pack territory. Everyone was still as I left them. They were waiting for my instructions as their Alpha.
Well, it's not easy to be an Alpha, but if I am going to be one, then I have to be a very good one.
I turned to the moon-like pack and regarded them for a moment. My mother has stopped crying now. She was at one side with my father.
Then, I turned to the six trances. “If you will all pledge your allegiance to me, I will take you all in.”
The six dancers went on their knees instantly.
“We accept you as our Alpha!” they chanted.
I released a long sigh.
“From today henceforth, the two individuals will come together and become one. There will not be any six trance or moon-like packs because there will be just one!” I hesitated and regarded everyone's expressions for a moment before I continued.
“And they will all be my pack members. The six trance or the moon-like pack will be my people, my responsibility. And they will no longer bear any of these names. I hereby rename this pack—” I hesitated briefly. “Silver Moon Like pack!”
Everyone yelled suddenly. The six trance packs that were on their knees jumped up and hurried into the moonlight pack midst. At least now we know they are all the same. And I am their Alpha!
They will answer to me and to no one else.
