I kept walking with no exact destination in mind. I just wanted to see my people and see how they were doing. Were they scared or not?
Though, I was certain that Augustine would not harm them. The only thing he needed was me. I was the only thing stopping him from claiming all this empire as his.
I just blame myself so much for not finding out earlier.
I had no idea why I didn't even suspect him. Maybe because I trusted him. I thought he would have my back even if others didn't.
“Alpha Augustine is coming back!” A voice said suddenly, from around me.
I was forced to make a sudden stop, and unexpectedly, my heartbeat increased drastically.
It's rare, but I'm scared of the war.
“Well, our Alpha is strong. He will take them down.”
That seems to put a smile on my face.
“Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but all the Alphas have abandoned Alpha Xavier. He won't be able to defeat Alpha Augustine. In no time, this place will belong to him.”
“How did we get here?”
“This is all Alpha Xavier's fault!” another deep voice yelled in anger.
“Raph! Be careful of what you say!” An elderly woman scolded him.
I clenched my teeth in anger and turned around. There was no need to check more. I already got what I came for.
Just as I stepped into the pack house, my heart switched. I hesitated and held onto it.
Autumn.
I think the pain was necessary, but it was making me more miserable. I shouldn't be feeling like this, not now.
I needed to be able to think straight, but now that seemed like a problem. I'm fighting to stay focused.
A growl reached my ears suddenly as I passed through the garden. On a second thought, I stepped back and searched frantically where it came from.
However I didn't need to search for long. Rick was the one in the garden. He had shifted and was training.
I watched him for a moment. It has been a while since I saw him train so hard. Definitely, this wasn't just an ordinary training; Rick was relieving his frustration and anger.
I shouldn't forget that Rick also got rejected. I'm not the only one in this mess. Yet, I decided to leave him behind.
Rick has always been the only one even from when I was very young. We've always had ourselves when my mother died.
I have come to the term that I was, in fact, the loser between us, but Rick had to let go of his family to stay with me. Yet, I thought of leaving him without even thinking about him.
I'm just as selfish as my father.
That's why I needed to do something about it. Even if I will die, nothing must happen to Rick and his family.
Oh, if I must die. Then, it has to be alone! Rick doesn't even deserve it. The only crime he committed was being there for me always.
And I'm not ready to repay that with death.
I walked back to my room, hoping Brown was back there already. If not, I might have to look for him.
There were several soldiers in front of my door, but Brown was nowhere to be seen.
They bowed as I moved nearer.
“Someone should get me Brown,” I muttered before I walked inside.
I moved to the library side and took a piece of paper.
I know I have failed already and this war was in fact going to end very soon. But I needed to do something to protect Rick and his family.
And the only solution was writing to Rowan.
As much as I don't want to do this, I need to.
Even if he wouldn't help us fight the war, he should please accept Rick’s family.
Augustine would go extra miles to find them, I'm so sure. The only place he wouldn't be able to go is Rowan’s place.
So, the Dark orb was the only option now. It's the only place for Rick.
I started to write. I only wish Rowan would grant my little request.
A soft knock sounded on the door.
“Yes?”
“Alpha, it’s I, Brown.”
Good!
“Yes, you can come in.”
The door opened, and I felt Brown's presence, but I didn't look up at him.
“I need you to go somewhere. It's very important,” I muttered and eventually looked up. I was done writing already.
“Where do I need to go?”
“The Dark Orb.”
Brown hesitated briefly. “Why?”
“Make sure you give this to Alpha Rowan. He will know what to do,” I assured and started to fold the paper. Then, I placed it in one of the envelope before I stretched it out to him.
He took it quickly. “Alright Alpha.”
“And you have to be very careful because Rick must not find out.”
Brown looked at me but didnt say anything. It felt like he had a thousand questions to ask.
“To conceal that, I have another place to send you to. If Rick sees you, you can just tell him I sent you to find out where Augustine currently is.”
Brown nodded once.
“I want you to come back early, at least by tomorrow morning. We might be going to war by afternoon. And I will need you here with me.”
Also, Rick family weren't the only family I was protecting. This also includes Brown's family and everyone that works closely to me.
Brown bowed slightly and eventually stepped out of the room.
I released a ragged sigh.
The war is finally here. And yes, I'm scared of it now.
It's funny how that has changed. I have always looked forward to war, but I've never been scared of it.
Now, the only person I could look onto was the moon goddess, even though I have had an enmity with her for years.
I guess I have no choice now. Even if the chance of surviving was little,I want her to protect my loved ones like she had returned Autumn to me.
The moon goddess was my only hope.
I made a silent prayer, then stared out through the window at the stars. I wonder what Autumn was doing at this moment.
