I regarded him for a moment, unsure of what to say. I didn't want to lie to him, I've never done so.
Though, I wasn't really expecting the question. The only person I was expecting it from was Frederick because he seemed deep into it then.
“It's ok if you don't want to talk about it. I will_”
“I didn't,” I said quickly.
Dylan went into a sudden shock but he was soon over it.
“Why?”
“Well, Rick got in the way. I had no idea how he knew when to come. He led a lot of men inside, and even though I could take them down at once, I didn't want to kill innocent people.”
Dylan sighed. “Can we really say there are innocent people among the Ocean Howl Pack? If Xavier is guilty, then everyone is,” he argued.
“Well, Xavier was the one that made the decision, not them. So, it's solely his fault.”
“So what? Do you still think you might try to kill him in the future?”
I thought about it quickly. I have never thought about that actually. I guess I don't even wish to see Xavier again. Planning to see him again was actually a very bad idea. So, I wasn't going to process it more than I have.
“I won't be seeing Xavier in the future. He wouldn't mess with us again. You can be sure of that.”
Dylan nodded once. “I understand. But does this mean you have successfully avoided the prophecy that says you will kill Xavier?”
I regarded him for a moment. Maybe I have but I'm not even bothered about it. Maybe Xavier really did sin but his pack member didn't. If I kill Xavier, it will definitely affect them all.
But even at that, I don't know if I merely have a soft heart. Was I supposed to kill Xavier without thinking about anything?
“Are you really sure that was the reason why you didn't kill him? Is it because you couldn't bring yourself to kill your mate?”
I shrugged briefly. “It doesn't matter anymore, Dylan. We can let the matter die down now. We have a new pack to coordinate. Everyone is counting on us.”
Dylan nodded once. “I will check on others then.”
“Good.”
Dylan bowed slightly and stepped out.
I released a long sigh of relief. Isn't it over now? We don't have to think about anyone here. The silver moon-like pack will be safe now, and no one will ever be able to defeat us.
But then, I was still confused about something. Or maybe Dylan was right. Could I have been worried about killing my mate? That was actually the biggest punishment ever.
Was all this the moon goddess's plan? To leave me broken? If truly Xavier was the one that sinned and should be punished, why should I be punished as well?
Why was I supposed to share in his punishment?
Why did the moon goddess key my power? Why did I need Xavier to unlock it? Why was Xavier my mate to begin with?
I had a lot of questions but the answers eluded me. And it made me so sad.
Nonetheless, I knew I had to be very strong. If this was the price to pay to protect my pack, then I would take it gladly.
The silver wolf, as they say, is very powerful. This might be the responsibility and the pain that comes with it.
At least I now have the power to protect my people. And that's all that matters. My happiness is incomparable.
“Alpha?” A soft voice called suddenly and jerked me out of my thoughts.
I turned to look at Mercury. I regarded her for a moment. The look on her face was off.
“Mercury, is something wrong?”
I took a step closer, but before I took the next step, I felt something brush against me like a wave.
All at once, I felt stiff. I couldn't move.
“Alpha?” Mercury called again, apparently as she noticed the change in me. She moved closer.
I could see her clearly now but I still couldn't move.
Mercury reached me. “Autumn, what's wrong?”
I dropped into her arms as she touched me. Just then, it felt like I was forced under the water. I tried to get up but it felt like something was dragging me down.
It felt like I couldn't breathe properly, it felt like I was drowning.
“Autumn! Dylan! Autumn isn't responding!” I could hear Mercury scream as I found myself falling even deeper inside the water.
It suddenly felt like I was pulling apart from her. Like I could only see her through a big window which gradually reduced as I was pulled even further.
“Autumn!”
Several voices filled my eardrums.
I closed my eyes immediately and suddenly, the noise was gone. I opened my eyes and my gaze searched around quickly.
I was in a strange place. What made it even more strange was the fact that there were bushes everywhere.
I wasn't in the Silver Moon-like pack anymore. I was back in the forest.
My heart quickened. What was happening?
Suddenly, I heard hard footsteps towards me.
“Get them!” Someone yelled from behind me.
What!
Just before I could even think about it, Brown showed up from behind one of the trees, with Xavier beside him. Xavier's weight was on him which made it difficult for Brown to move very well.
Shock kept me motionless for a moment. What was I looking at?
Soldiers hurried after Xavier and Brown.
At this stage, I was confused.
What was happening? How can I be at the Silver Moon pack a minute, and I'm here the second?
What kind of witchcraft works here?
Xavier dropped to the ground suddenly with a groan. Then, I saw it. He was injured.
Isn't his wounds supposed to be healing up?
I need to save them.
I took a step closer without even thinking about it. I pushed my head up for the transformation to take place but nothing happened.
Wait, What?
I tried again, still nothing. What has happened to my powers?
“Get them!” Someone yelled right behind me.
My heart skipped a beat. Did they see me too?
Before I was even done thinking, one of the men ran past me. And towards Xavier.
Brown had helped Xavier up now and they were running again.
“Xavier!” I yelled suddenly. “They are coming!”
I had no idea why I was doing this. But I needed to do something since I couldn't even shift to help him.
“Run!”
Suddenly, Xavier stopped in his track. Then, he turned to look at me. His eyes widened in shock.
Wait what! He can see me?
