The joy that gave me!
I can't believe Xavier is making me organize the party. I wonder what made him change his mind. It doesn't look like he was ready to concede some hours ago.
The man from earlier steps inside. The smile was still on his face. Has he never seen two people hug?
“The Alpha told me you have a headache. Here, use this,” he was saying as he stepped away from me to grab some medicine.
How did the Alpha know I was having a headache?
The man returned with some white tablets and handed me a cup of water.
I took it from him and swallowed the drugs in one go.
“Where is the Beta?”
“If you are still feeling pain, I will advise you to rest for a few minutes,” he suggests.
I shook my head briefly. “My parents are around. I need to go see them,” I mutter and get out of bed.
The man didn't try to stop me now.
When I stepped out, I was taken aback for a moment as I watched the maids waiting outside for me. Why are there so many?
This is probably the luxury life that the Luna enjoys.
Well, I shouldn't let it bother me. I'm an Alpha daughter myself. I need to act like one.
I step forward. “Do you know where the Beta is?” I asked no one in particular, expecting them to understand I was expecting the answers from all of them, at least from anyone who knows the answer.
“He's at the hall,” one of them responds.
I smile. “Lead the way!”
They bow slightly and divide themselves. Some were walking in front of me while the others were walking behind me.
It feels good actually. That I can walk as I like without being monitored.
These maids know me as Gwen. It shows that Xavier finally trusts I can confidently act like Gwen.
We walk for a moment before we take a left turn. We stop in front of a huge door. The two men in front of it open it.
Inside were a lot of maids, decorating. In the middle of it was Rick, talking to one of the maids.
I look at the maid who replied to me earlier. “Go, help the others. My parents are here already. We have to hurry up.”
She bows slightly and turns to the rest. “You heard what the Luna said. Let's try to get the hall ready as soon as possible.”
Just as she said this, the maids dispersed, each finding something to do.
I regard them for a moment before I decide to walk to Rick.
I bump into someone and flashes of images rush past me. They were so fast, so fast that I felt dizzy when it was over.
My legs faltered suddenly and I was suddenly going down.
But I stop midway, as that same scent I have grown familiar with attacks my nostrils.
I look up at him, wondering what he is doing here and how he does his timing.
“I'm so sorry, Alpha!” The voice of the maids pulls me out of my thoughts. “I'm really sorry!” The maid apologizes in an emotion-filled voice.
I look at her. She looks frightened. Perhaps she thinks I'm going to punish her for what she did.
“Leave!” The Alpha mutters thickly and steady me on the floor.
“Thank you,” I mutter and look at Rick. By now, he had rounded off what he was discussing with the maid and was now heading our way.
Rick regards me for a moment and looks over at Xavier. “Is everything alright?”
Xavier nods once. “Autumn is joining you in organizing the party. She’s the chief head.”
Rick nods once. He didn't look offended by the announcement which I deeply appreciate.
“I will leave you two to it then,” Xavier finished and walked away.
Rick turns to me, with a smile. “Are you good at organizing?”
I nod once. “You will be amazed. Besides, aren't you getting any supplies outside the packhouse?”
“No! Everything we need has been brought to us.”
I got an idea immediately. If I can't go outside, then I should do things I know best.
“Are we baking?”
Rick blinks once. “No, why?”
“Why won't you bake? Cakes are very important in this kind of gathering. What are you making available then?”
“Waffles, creams. There are many of them.”
“Oh damn! What a huge mistake. Call someone. Let's confirm they have all the ingredients. But will there be enough time for that?”
Rick nods once. “The party starts in the morning anyway. Gwen's parents must be stressed from the journey. So, they could use tonight to relieve the stress.”
I nod once. It makes sense.
“Good. Then, we should add the cakes.”
Rick smiles again and beckons someone over. He seems happy doing this with me. Well, he's still the only person that hasn't treated me badly over here, aside from Elixir.
Come to think of it, where is Elixir?
“Where is Elixir?”
“She’s attending to Gwen's parents. Since she's closer to you. We feel she's in the best position of serving them,” he explains.
I nod once.
One of the maids moves closer.
“We need to make some cakes. Do you have all the necessary ingredients?”
The maid hesitates as if calculating. Then she shook her head briefly. “We don't have baking powder. But we could get there very fast. Mason sells it, just a few houses outside the pack house.”
Good!
“I'm going with you.”
The maid's eyes narrow as she looks at me, then at Rick.
“Let her go with you,” Rick decides.
I look at Rick and give him a big smile. He's so kind to me. I wish the Alpha was like him. Perhaps we would be able to catch the culprit faster.
We step out of the packhouse and I turn to the maid.
“What's your name?”
She looks at me. “Tiana, Luna.”
I nod once. “I actually have a list of ingredients in my head. Can we get all the ingredients for cakes at Mason’s side?”
Tiana nods once. “Yes, we can,” she assures.
I nodded and didn't talk again. We walked for a while and I must say I love this. I really do.
This is why I will join in baking the cake. I'm thinking of making strawberry and chocolate cakes. Then maybe some cupcakes.
We enter a market side, with people going here and there and trying to patronize sellers.
“We are almost at Mason,” Tiana said suddenly, pulling me out of my reverie. I nod once and follow her.
We walk for a while and eventually stop in front of a store.
A man of probably sixties was standing outside. “Tiana,” she calls with a smile.
Tiana moves closer swiftly and hugs the man. “Dad, have you been well?”
“Yes, I am fine,” he mutters and looks at me. “And who do we have here?”
“The Luna.”
“Oh my!” The man exclaims softly and rushes closer. “I'm so sorry for not recognizing you earlier.”
I smile at this.
“It's ok.”
The man turns around. “Evie! Come and greet the Luna.”
And everyone nearby turns their gaze towards me.
It didn't take up to a few minutes when a lady steps out, carrying a bowl of whatever. But she has barely taken two steps when she misses her steps suddenly and lurches forward.
The content in the bowl splashed all over me.
