I wanted to ask her what she meant by that but she was suddenly walking out of the room.
And then, I remembered that the images didn't come up again. That means it's not Mercury, it's me.
I have so much to worry about now. I have no idea what is happening to me.
The door opened almost immediately and Tito walked inside with the maids.
She regarded me for a moment, with those cold gazes. “Get her ready,” she ordered.
Actually, I really think Mercury is right. I wouldn't want anyone in the palace to see that I was acquainted with her, just yet. Not someone like Tito.
If Mercury had hesitated for a few minutes, Tito would have met her here.
But then again, what does she mean by not trusting anyone, including my maids? What about Elixir? Am I supposed not to trust her?
Well, I see no reason not to. Elixir is a nice person. If I shouldn't trust anyone, it won't include her.
“I'm sure you know what today is of all days,” Tito started suddenly, as the maids did my hair. “You are not to mess up, you should know by now what will become of you if you do,” she muttered, her gaze suddenly on me. “Your name for today is Gwen, you must not miss that.”
My heartbeat increased. I guess I'm just scared I might fumble and there's also this fact that a lot of things rest on this.
The Alpha won't let me live today if it doesn't go well.
“Don't forget everything we've taught you. If you want a recap, this is the best time to get it. If you make a mistake,” she hesitated and looked at me. “I don’t need to finish all the statements for you. You should know by now what will happen to you if you fumble.”
I nodded once. “I understand and I'm ready.”
Tito didn't answer. Instead, she looked over at the maids that were doing my hair. “Done?”
The maids stepped back.
“Yes, we are,” one of them responded.
I released a sigh and tried to steady my heavy breathing. I can do this. The last acting I did, Xavier was really convinced that I was truly Gwen. I can do it again.
“Let's go then,” Tito said suddenly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I stood and mentally dusted my gown. “I'm ready,” I repeated, to myself, rather than to Tito because I was trying to convince myself that I truly was.
We stepped out of my room and headed towards the hall.
We walked in the hallway for a moment before we turned to our left side and finally arrived at our destination.
Tito looked at me and slowly nodded her head.
I released several sighs, just as the door opened and I stepped inside.
The hall was a bit filled up as all the Alphas were present.
All gazes turned towards me at once.
“My baby!” A woman by the right called. She looked very young and pretty. I suspected she must be Gwen's mother.
A way older man was sitting beside her.
“Heck! I can barely recognize you!” She laughed.
I forced a smile to my lips. “Why? I haven't changed that much or have I?”
She laughed, stood, and met me midway. “Of course you have!” She muttered and pulled me into a bear hug.
Strangely, I felt safe in her arms, and like that, I saw my walls finally breaking.
Yes, I can do this! I know I can.
“I've missed you so much, mother!” I muttered into her ears.
She laughed and pulled back to fully look at me again.
“We miss you too, pumpkin,” a deep voice interrupted her of the words she wanted to say and a man stepped in beside her.
The smile on his face was contagious. These people seem like good people.
“Oh! I've missed you too, Daddy!” I said with a giggle.
We walked to the table where they were initially. I pulled back the chair in front of Gwen's mother and sat on it, which made me a seat away from Xavier.
I couldn't bear to be close to him.
I held Gwen's mother's hand and giggled excitedly. “I'm so glad to see you again.”
“Me too. We received a piece of information that you were in danger. Are you alright?”
I nodded once, a wide smile still on my face.
“Are you really?” Father asked. “Xavier said you were attacked.”
I looked up at Xavier and caught him staring. What more has he told them?
“We were worried especially because you truly said you were coming but you suddenly disappeared and we didn't hear from you until yesterday,” Gwen's mother explained in a soft voice. She sounded worried. What more do I expect? My mother would have been equally worried.
She seemed to love her daughter so much and I felt sorry for her.
“She's fine now,” Xavier said quickly. “And we in fact have good news for you,” he revealed.
I looked at him again. What good news can that be?
He was smiling now and that action made my heart skip a beat.
“Really?” Gwen's mother looked at Xavier with excitement. “Tell us.”
Xavier sat up and glanced at me. “Gwen is pregnant.”
What the heck!
Gwen's mother's eyes widened with shock. “What! Really?” She looked at me, hoping for me to confirm the news.
I pushed a smile to my face and nodded once. “I am.”
“Yes, this was why the Alpha had to lock Anthony up. What would have happened if he hadn't stepped in? The Luna is pregnant and can't even shift,” Philip said suddenly.
I glanced at him, then slowly looked at the other Alphas. I don't know their usefulness in this gathering. Are they here to make things worse?
“Well, exactly and we support it!” Marcus chimed in.
“I can't believe Anthony would try something like that on my daughter,” Gwen's father muttered in a deep voice. He looked and sounded sad and angry at the same time.
“Exactly! That's why they have to be punished,” Xavier said suddenly and looked at me. “For endangering the lives of my Luna and my son.”
I swallowed harder. What was Xavier trying to do?
“Anthony’s wife Lisbeth, dies tomorrow.”
My head whipped towards him and my eyes widened in shock.
No way!
