                    A giggled.
I hesitated, adjusted but it came again. Now, the only thing I could do was compare. The voice sounded like mine.
“No, I don't want you finding your mate,” a soft voice said.
I started suddenly, towards the direction from where the voice came from.
Stopping in front of a door, I placed my ears against the door to be certain I was in the right place.
“I'm never finding her. You are the best for me,” a deep voice spoke. I recognize that voice anywhere. It's Xavier.
I opened the door slightly.
Two figures stood so close to one another but I couldn't see them clearly because it was dark. It felt like a pithole.
Suddenly, they both turned to me. And at once, I could see their faces.
It was Xavier and me… no, Gwen!
I woke up with a scream. Beads of perspiration have started to tickle down my head and a serious headache set in.
I gripped my head harder in an attempt to shake the pain off.
Two maids rushed to me.
“Are you alright? How do you feel, Luna?” they bombarded me at the same time.
My heart was beating faster. It was a dream, a bad one at that.
My gaze searched around me. I was supposed to be at the welcome party.
Recently, I don't even understand what's happening to me.
“Luna! Are you ok?” A familiar voice asked. I looked up to see Elixir walking towards me, with worries written all over her face.
I swallowed harder. “What happened?”
“You fainted at the party,” a voice muttered. That deep voice again?
Then it all came rushing back. The declaration, and the dizziness.
”Are you alright?” he asked, as if he was concerned.
He just signed our death warrant. He should not be worried about me.
I nodded nonetheless.
Xavier regarded me for a moment and I swallowed harder. I remember what I had said at the party and fear gripped me. I wonder what he will do to me this time.
“Leave us,” he ordered and the maids rushed out.
What if I undergo another torture for running my mouth anyhow? I should have just stayed quiet. It wasn't a new thing that the Alpha was going to kill me. I was either going to die or they find Gwen.
He pulled out a chair closer to me and turned it around so that he was sitting and resting his hands on the backrest.
“Is that your way out of the party?” He asked harshly.
A lump was suddenly in my throat, preventing me from responding.
He was dangerously sitting too close to me. His presence was affecting me. How do I tell him to move away? I might as well die right at this instance.
“I_” I started even though I had no idea what I was supposed to say.
A dark frown was on his face, making him look even more scary. Well, he has always scared me.
“I thought you were pregnant,” he started suddenly.
Wait, what?
“But I realized it's just another of your tricks, Autumn.”
I don't even understand what he's talking about.
“You've just signed your death warrant, do you know that?”
“Well, you are looking the wrong side. Would my father really kidnap the Luna, knowing fully well that you would come at us?”
“Shut up!” He said softly.
“I will if you will learn to look in different directions. My father knows how much you hate him. He wouldn't intentionally bring this upon himself without a plan. He wouldn't be sitting in that cell without a plan. He_”
“Shut up!” He yelled suddenly. His voice was like a force, shutting me up instantly. I have never been so compelled. It felt like I was enchanted.
“You shut up, Autumn! I'm not doing this for you!”
I looked up at him, confused but I was still finding it difficult to talk. Maybe it was because of the dark scowl on his face.
“The Alpha knows what he's doing,” A familiar voice said suddenly and Rick walked inside.
Xavier groaned inwardly.
I gazed at Rick for a moment, then over at Xavier, then back at Rick.
I was more than confused.
“What is going on?”
“I just for once want to believe that Anthony didn't do this. Though, it doesn't add up. But don't provoke me, Autumn! This whole thing started with your family,” he stood up and started towards the door.
I stood up as well, my heartbeat accelerating. “I promise to find Gwen!” I said quickly before he would open the door.
He stopped in his tracks but he didn't turn to me.
“I promise to clear my name!” I added quickly.
He didn't say anything and instead walked out of the room.
I released the breath I didn't even know I was holding. Gosh, I've never felt so scared.
Yet, I didn't understand anything at all.
I turned towards Rick. “What's happening?”
“The Alpha believes there's a foul play somewhere and he's determined to find out. So, he decided to use you and the pack as the bait,” Rick explained.
I still didn't understand.
“Are you saying he doesn't actually plan on killing my mother? It was a plan?”
“Yes, which you've participated in. Whoever kidnapped Luna would be shocked and, well, confused to see you here especially since you act exactly like the Luna.”
The explanation was sinking in.
“Wait, so you want the person to take the bait?”
Rick nodded once. “If he will, we will know. Our men are all around monitoring the movement of all the Alphas.”
“But what if they don't take the bait?”
Rick went silent for a moment. “A war won't be unavoidable.”
So, Xavier had no plan of killing me. He just knew how frustrated the person behind it would be seeing that I wasn't ready to leave. He would definitely make a move now that he knows that Xavier will kill me and my parents only when the real Gwen is here.
Since there's no way to differentiate between us now.
