“You should stick to the plan of pretending to be Gwen and let the Alpha solve this mystery,” Rick said suddenly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I looked up at him for a moment. “I have something to tell you.”
I don't know if it's time to let him know about the note but then what difference will it make? I should provide them with everything that will help in this investigation.
Besides, I've promised the Alpha to help with this.
“What is it?”
I rushed back to the bedstand and retrieved a book. I opened to the middle of it and pulled out a small note.
“My father received this a day before the Luna passed back,” I explained and stretched it out to him.
He took the note from me and stared down at it. His eyes widened with shock.
“He decided to go over there to help the Luna escape because the Alpha would not take it easy if anything happened to the Luna while she was passing our territory,” I further explained.
“What!” He exclaimed softly. “Why didn't you submit this earlier? It would have helped with the investigation.”
“Well, I couldn't. The Alpha wasn't ready to listen to me. I couldn't let you destroy my only evidence. Besides, I compared the handwriting in the note with all the cooks but it didn't match. I didn't know how to proceed,” I reported.
He smiled. “This is good. Thank you. This will help us,” he assured.
I hope it does. I can't wait to be out of here.
He stepped out of the room and I released a sigh of relief.
I'm so relieved that the Alpha is finally giving us a chance. I hope they are able to find the truth out soon.
I should go and see Gwen's parents and assure them that Gwen is fine.
I stepped out of the room and looked at my two maids. “I need to go and see my parent. Lead the way.”
“Alright Luna,” they responded at the same time, bowed their heads slightly and we started out.
Their room was not as close as Xavier's room was to me. I guess it's because I'm not the real Gwen.
I knocked slightly. “Mom, Dad. It's Gwen!” I said softly.
There were a few minutes of silence before the door opened and Gwen's mother smiled up at me.
“You are awake? We didn't want to disturb you.”
I reciprocated her smile. “I'm fine. I think it's the baby.”
Mother nodded once. “The Alpha told us. You need to be very careful. You stressed yourself because of us.”
I laughed. “It doesn't matter. I don't care. I will do anything for you!”
“We know,” Father said suddenly and stepped inside, a wide smile on his face. “You know, you've truly changed a little like Xavier said.”
My heart skipped once. Xavier told them something?
“Yes, I noticed it too. Gwen has always been energetic but she would never enter the kitchen.”
I was dumbfounded.
“But well, Xavier told us you've been changing since you got pregnant. Are you sure you are alright?”
“Uhm_ yes, I am,” I stammered. I released a long sigh. “I'm so sorry for ruining your morning.”
Mother's smile widened. “It's nothing to be sorry for. I'm just so glad that you are alright.”
“Yes, we are,” Father chimed in.
They seemed like nice people. No wonder I feel so relaxed around them.
“So, you should plan on coming over to the city sometime. So you can make us the cake again. We really enjoyed it, right?”
Father nodded once. “I didn't know you had such skill up your sleeve.”
I laughed. “I've been practicing for a while especially when I realized I will be a mother soon.”
Mother laughed too and parted a place beside her on the bed. “Come here.”
I complied, a wide smile on my face.
“You are making a great Luna already. You will make a great mother. I can't wait to hold your child in my arms,” she confessed, half sobbing.
I pulled her into a bear hug. “Thank you so much, mum.”
“Well, we are always here for you,” Father said, suddenly close to me.
I felt moved to tears. I've missed doing this with my parents. I know no one deserves this. Gwen doesn't deserve to be kidnapped. And these people don't deserve to cry. So, Gwen must be found.
“You should go and rest now. Xavier said you need more of it,” Father said suddenly.
I nodded once and stood up.
“Alright. I will see you in the evening.”
“Well, I and your father decided to go back today. We will come back later on. We have to be on a trip to Paris tomorrow morning.”
I regarded them for a moment, in disbelief.
“What?”
“You know, we thought we would be able to spend more time with you before we go but since you are just recuperating, there's no need to wait.”
Are they kidding? So, if I was really their daughter, they would leave me like this and go to Paris?
Mother pulled me into a hug. “Take care of yourself.”
I managed a smile. “Yes. Take care,” I finished and stepped out of the room.
I hesitated briefly in front of the door. Is there something going on that I don't understand?
Why does it feel like there's more to know about Gwen?
“Where's Elixir?” I asked as we walked back to my room.
“She went to the toilet when the Alpha came,” one of the maids responded.
“Fetch her for me now!” I ordered.
One of the maids bowed slightly and walked away in a different direction.
I got to my room with the second maid. Elixir and the second maid were already waiting for me at the door.
“Follow me,” I ordered and stepped inside.
I turned to look at her when we were inside. “Tell me, who Gwen really is.”
She stared at me for a moment, confused. “The Luna?”
“Yes. Tell me how she is.”
“The Luna_” She released a sigh. “_should have been the fated mate of the Alpha king because she's just like him.”
“What do you mean?” I probed further.
“Dangerous, scary. Wicked. She’s just like Tito but maybe worse. When she got married to the Alpha King, almost twenty maids were killed for gossiping about her.”
My eyes widened with shock.
”Wait, are you saying she has a lot of enemies on her own?”
