“What! No way!” Tiana's father yelled. He suddenly gripped one of the guards by the collar. “You killed her! You killed my daughter, you motherfucker! She was alive! She was alive before you took me away from me!” He accused him.
I could not talk. I was not only shocked, I felt weak.
My maids started to say something but I could not really make out what they were saying. I only saw the movement of their mouths.
And then, I was being led out of the dungeon.
Why? Just why did Tiana have to die today of all day? Not yesterday but today? And why was it when I was going to ask her about what Elixir told me?
What is happening? Who knew when I was talking to Elixir? My maids?
“Ma’am!” One of the maids called suddenly, cutting through my thoughts when nothing else could have.
Tiana just died. She was innocent and she died!
I looked at my maids. One of them was talking but I didn't even hear them.
The next thing I knew was the speaker running back to the dungeon while the other one stood with me.
My mind was reeling. I couldn't think properly. If there was seriously someone around here that could kill someone in the dungeon, without getting caught, then who am I? I could die at any time.
Then I remembered what Mercury had told me.
No one! I shouldn't believe anyone especially these maids that have been appointed to follow me around. It looks like they are even monitoring my life.
I looked up suddenly and Mercury was standing far away. Our gaze locked for a moment before she turned and walked away.
I followed her immediately. I found myself in a different hallway but Mercury was suddenly nowhere to be found.
My gaze searched around frantically.
“Autumn,” a soft voice called suddenly. The door behind me opened slightly and Mercury shot her head out. “Come in.”
I complied immediately.
“Luna!” My maid called out, as they rushed past the door.
I released a sigh I didn't even know I was holding. “I don't believe all this is happening.”
“Are you alright?”
I shook my head briefly. “There's no way I will be. Damn! Someone just died!”
Mercury sighed. “I know. I told you this place is an ocean filled with sharks.”
I thought about it quickly. “Is there something you know? Was there something you were trying to warn me about?”
She released another sigh and moved closer. “I told you not to trust anyone.”
“I know! Including my maids right? Yes because I don't even trust them!” I announced in a voice higher than a whisper. My breath was still coming out fast.
“Including Elixir!” she added.
I went still for a moment. What?
“Including Elixir?”
She nodded once. “I've been monitoring Elixir for a while now and I can tell you that she's suspicious. She's definitely not someone you can trust.”
I was dumbfounded, maybe for the umpteenth time that day.
“But why? Elixir has been kind and truthful since I got here.”
“And how are you sure she hasn't been feeding you with lies? I saw her meet with a stranger three nights ago. She has always been secretive and I have been watching her since you got here,” she explained.
I regarded her for a moment. Wait, I think it's making sense. Gwen promised to kill her when she gets back but if she didn't, then she wouldn't die, right?
“Why are you just telling me this?”
“Well,” Mercury shook her head slightly. “I wanted to confirm these allegations before I tabled it in front of you. I needed to catch her red-handed. But I'm so sure she's a suspect here.”
I looked away. Something doesn't add up anyway. But I can't believe Elixir is an enemy.
But I've always known Mercury. I don't think she would lie to me either. So, who am I supposed to believe?
I looked up at Mercury again. “Where do you work at? You need to start working for me.”
Mercury started to shake her head. “That can't happen. If I start working for you, then I won't be able to catch Elixir red-handed.”
“Well, you might never be able to catch her. But now, I'm not the only one in this. The Alpha is in this as well.”
Mercury's eyes widened with shock. “Really? He believes you now?”
“Not really but we are progressing. So, I believe we can do this if only you will agree to work for me. Remember that I've always done my all for you. This is the time I need your help the most. Please, don't forsake me,” I beseeched.
She went quiet for a moment. “Alright, I agree. I'm Mercury Vads, I'm in the Laundry department,” she revealed.
I nodded once. “I will get back to you then.”
Mercury nodded as well, with a smile. “You should leave first so we don't look suspicious,” she advised
“Take care sister.”
I stepped out of the room, my heartbeat accelerating. I can't believe Elixir might be involved in all this. It's so surreal.
Could Elixir have written the note? Well, just one way to find out.
I was nearly out of the hallway when Tito appeared out of nowhere, with her girls.
She stopped in front of me, a dark frown on her face. I wonder why she's always angry.
“Take her!” She ordered.
Shock kept me motionless and speechless for a moment. It wasn't until when I was being dragged that I found my voice back.
“What are you doing? Let me go!”
They didn't answer me and instead continued to drag me. We moved into a room. The wall of this room seemed familiar but I couldn't make out where I had seen it.
I was pushed away violently but this time, I supported myself. So, I didn't have any bruises.
Then I remembered it. It was where I was tortured the last time.
My gaze searched around me quickly. Everything was still as it was the last time. The only thing missing would probably be my blood which they cleared off already.
I looked back at Tito. “What are you doing this for?”
The dark frown on her face transformed into a dark scowl. She moved closer to me.
“How dare you?” She couched in front of me and slapped me. “You bitch! What did I tell you about running your mouth anyhow you want it?”
I still didn't understand her. And I actually couldn't because my cheek hurt.
“I don't even know what I did.”
She scoffed. “Really?” She muttered, stood, and stepped back. “Tie her up!”
What the heck!
My heart skipped a beat as a sense of Deja Vu kicked in.
“Please, Tito. I'm so sorry. Please!”
“Wolfbane!” She demanded as the girls tied me to where I had been days back.
The next thing was history as a lash came landing on my leg. A pain shot through me and I yelled.
Then, another one at my back.
“Wolfbane!” Tito called out again.
No! I'm going to lose it! Not more. Tito is going to kill me.
Another one hit me on my neck and my body started shuddering on its own. Pain took all over me and I couldn't breathe properly.
“What the fuck is going on here?” A voice thundered suddenly. It sounded far, yet close.
“Fuck! Autumn!” Deep voices reached my ears and strong arms held me.
I think I'm going to die.
