Autumn
Consciousness returned to me suddenly. My head banged at one side but aside from that, I feel no pain.
I jumped up, feeling that sense of Deja Vu or maybe it's the fact that I feel alive.
I thought I was going to die. But what happened?
“Mistress!” Elixir rushed inside, crying. “Are you alright?”
I looked down at her for a moment, while she continued to sob.
“I shouldn't have left you alone. I'm so mad at myself!” She rumbled on.
But the only thing I could think of was what Mercury told me about her. What if she was really working for the enemy? The one that placed me here?
But that aside, what am I doing here?
I remember falling into a pit of darkness when Tito hit me. So, why am I still alive and looking at Elixir?
“Young lady, no crying!” A voice ordered and a familiar man walked closer. I remember him actually. I think I woke up here a few days ago too.
“Here, take this. It will help with the headache,” he said and stretched out a cup of black substance to me.
I took it but spat it out immediately.
“That's bitter!” I groaned.
He smiled. “That's why it's so effective. Common, drink the remaining unless you want to have a headache till the end of today.”
I squeezed my face as I regarded the herbs for another moment before I eventually gulped down the rest.
Elixir laughed at the way I contoured my mouth.
“Stop laughing at me, Elixir!” I laughed.
Elixir went sober and slowly rubbed my hands. “I thought I was going to lose you. I was so scared.”
Was she?
The fact that a part of me seriously wanted to believe Elixir wasn't supposed to be strange but suddenly, it felt like everything she said was pretense.
But I know I shouldn't conclude like that. I need concrete evidence.
I looked at her. “I want to see the Alpha King.”
Her eyes widened slightly. “Why? Are you alright?”
I nodded once. “I just need to tell him everything you told me.”
Elixir looked up at the physician quickly, then back at me. “I_i_” she stammered, unable to bring out a solid word.
I laughed out loud. “I was kidding!” I burst out.
Elixir joined in after a minute but she still looked stressed about the statement.
“I was actually going to talk to the Beta. Besides, I'm not on good terms with the Alpha.”
“You don't need to look for me actually,” a familiar voice reached my ears suddenly.
I looked up at Rick for a moment and happiness surged through me. At least I will be able to get to the Alpha through him.
I got up and hurried closer to him. “Where is the Alpha? I want to talk to him.”
“You can't. He doesn't want to see you.”
The response oddly seems strange. Has something happened in my absence?
“I_” I stopped suddenly and glanced at Elixir who had her head bowed. “I need to report something to him.”
“Everyone should leave us!” He announced instead when I was expecting him to say he would take me to see the Alpha.
Everyone complied.
He waited for them to leave before he spoke again. “You heard me, Autumn. He doesn't want to see you. You can tell me whatever you want to tell him. I will relay the messages,” he muttered.
I sighed. “I thought the Alpha trusts me now.”
Rick chuckled. “You are thinking above yourself. The Alpha doesn't trust you.”
I released another sigh. The Alpha is making the whole thing difficult for me. In a minute, he's trusting me, and in the next minute, he doesn't.
I mean he should stick to one side. It's annoying this way.
“The note,” I said suddenly. “Where is it?”
Rick furrowed his brows. “Why?”
“Well,” I fumbled for words as I thought of what to tell him. The truth? Or a guess? I mean it doesn't matter at this point.
“Well, what?” Rick probed further.
I released a sigh, finally making up my mind.
“I think some of the King’s Alpha might be the one scheming all these. We might need to make their men write to confirm whose handwriting was in the note.”
He nodded once and turned away. “Actually, it's with the Alpha. I will let him know about everything we've discussed,” he assured.
I nodded once. “Thank you.”
“But you have to stay hidden for now and pretend like you and the Alpha are not working together,” he advised.
I nodded again. But I still think I should see the Alpha.
“So, I can't see the Alpha?”
“Unless he wants to see you. And if there is no more, then I will leave,” he muttered and walked out of the room.
Even though the Alpha didn't want to see me, I wondered what I was going to tell him if he allowed me.
Was I going to tell him that Gwen used to cheat on him and that the people who kidnapped her were probably people she had offended?
No, it sounds awkward. I'm sure the Alpha would even misjudge. He could say I was only trying to badmouth Gwen because she's not here and that I want to continue staying here.
But that doesn't mean I shouldn't tell him some of the truth. Besides, what choice do I have?
Elixir walked inside. “Mistress, are you alright?”
I nodded once. “Find out if Gwen's parents are still around.”
Elixir bowed and stepped out.
Actually, that was supposed to keep her busy till I returned. I want to see the Alpha and I'm meeting him now but I don't want Elixir to be aware of it.
I stepped out of the room a few minutes later and looked at one of my maids.
“Let's go see the Alpha,” I muttered.
The maids didn't ask questions. Instead, they bowed and we started out.
It doesn't matter if the Alpha doesn't want to see me, I will go and meet him.
I'm sure he can't kill me yet since he's using me to make his opponent move.
Besides, I need to do this. My life depends on it.
Within a few minutes, we were in front of the Alpha's room.
The guards bowed slightly and stepped aside for me. I'm the Luna and well, Gwen has a close and loving relationship with the Alpha. So, they didn't need to announce it to him.
I released an exasperated sigh before I stepped inside.
“Rick didn't inform you that I don’t want to see you?” His deep yet harsh voice reached my ears, making me shake mildly.
I didn't know where he was talking from at first until my gaze searched around.
He was at the desk, scribbling something down.
“I_” I tried to steady the hard beating of my heart. “I wanted to talk to you.”
“Talk to Rick,” he muttered, yet it was harsh.
“I_” I started again but I was forced to a sudden stop as he appeared in front of me. His hair was rough but damp like he just came out of the shower.
He was only putting on a short and well, a nightrobe that he didn't bother to tie, making me able to see his broad shoulders and well-structured chest.
“Do you not hear simple instructions?” His expression was hard, his words slightly teasing.
I couldn't breathe properly. He was too close.
Fuck this whole idea. I shouldn't have come.
I turned to leave but his strong hand was suddenly holding me back. My hand burned where he had touched me.
Cold shivers ran down my spine.
“I_” I started even though I had no idea of what to say.
“You are as stubborn as heck!” He remarked and pulled me closer.
I didn't know what was happening until his lips crashed on mine. My breath skipped once and hammered widely in my chest.
