I slid away as Autumn slept peacefully. I regarded her for another moment at how peacefully she slept.
She looked exactly like Gwen now. Like she was the one sleeping on my bed.
I closed my eyes for a moment and pushed the anger that was slowly resurfacing right back to where it came from. Gosh! I miss Gwen.
Autumn stirred suddenly and I stood up. I put on my trousers and grabbed my coat. Then, I stepped out of the room.
It was very late in the night.
I had no destination in mind. I just wanted to be alone. I'm frustrated at the fact that it seems like I'm always at a stagnant point every time. I'm not getting anywhere!
I hesitated in the middle of nowhere, tilted my head up, and howled.
I had a lot of bottled feelings. I have a lot of questions but the answers or should I say solutions eluded me.
And no one is making a move. I don't know if I'm supposed to trust that truly one of my Alpha is involved in Gwen's disappearance when no one is even reacting suspiciously.
“Xavier?”
A familiar scent reaches my nose, almost immediately as that familiar voice reaches my ears.
I didn't turn because I knew who it was.
“The maid was poisoned,” he announced.
I hesitated for a moment and turned to look at him. “Poisoned? By who?”
Rick shook his head briefly. “We have no idea but something doesn't just add up. There's foul play somewhere.”
I groaned inwardly as I thought about it.
“Why are you here?”
“None of the Alpha made a move?” I asked instead, ignoring his question even though I knew the answers.
“No one did.”
I scoffed. “You know what? I know what all this is all about.”
“Hmm?”
“I know where the foul play is from. I know who is playing with our heads,” I said confidently and turned to look at him. “It's the moon goddess.”
“Moon goddess? You don't even believe in her.”
“Well, that doesn't mean she doesn't exist, right?” I looked upward, at the stars. “I know she's making fun of me currently. It's a pity I can't get to meet her personally.”
“But Xavier, someone wrote that note. It's one of the werewolves and not the moon goddess,” he protested.
I shook my head briefly. “Has it ever crossed your mind why Autumn is so similar to Gwen? They don't scent alike but it's really so difficult to get the difference. Also, she not only looks so much like Gwen but she has the same attributes as her. She in fact sounds the same. If it's not the moon goddess messing with me, then I wonder who is.”
Rick stepped in beside me. “Maybe it's time to come back to your creator.”
I sent him a glare.
“I'm sorry, Xavier but it feels like we are always at the end anytime we feel like we are progressing. There seems to be another power working around somewhere,” he explained, with a hint of fear.
I groaned inwardly, as a lot of thought went through my mind.
“The other solution is probably to_” he stopped midway and I felt his eyes on me. I could feel his hesitation.
I looked at him again. “Spit it out!” I ordered.
He sighed. “Probably trust Autumn. She seemed to be making some sense when I spoke to her a few hours ago.”
I regarded him for another moment. “What if we are being deceived?”
“Well, Autumn won't be able to escape you. You have her parents anyway. There's no way she would deceive you. Besides, there's not much choice. You seem to be getting tangled with her.”
“Rick!”
“Well, I'm not technically lying. You are avoiding her so much now but you and I know that you have suddenly started to care for her.”
I don't believe that.
I looked away. “That's not the truth. I'm only concerned about her because I'm using her at the moment.”
“Well then if you can't talk to her. I will. I will put her in charge and see how it goes. We need to use all our cards because it looks like the people we are against are tougher,” he explained.
Rick is very right actually. There was no harm in using all our cards.
“I will talk to her,” I decided suddenly.
There was a few minutes of silence.
“Early, she asked me about the note. Maybe she has someone in mind she wants to use it for.”
I made a nod quickly. “I want you to tail her. I will give the note to her but I want to know what she would do with it. If she reports to me everything she discovers, I will trust her on this. And if I discover she only wants to play me, I will kill her parents immediately,” I decided.
Rick cleared his throat beside me. “Do whatever fits, Alpha. I just hope you will see the truth earlier. The moon goddess might try to play you because she oversees all the werewolves but then you shouldn't get played by your people because you oversee them. Instead, you should play them,” he finished, bowed slightly, and walked away.
I stayed still for a moment until I could no longer scent him before I started towards my room.
I stepped inside. Autumn was still sleeping. I regarded her for a moment before I walked over to the bookshelf.
My gaze searched for my favourite book. It was where I kept the note.
I sighted it and retrieved the note immediately.
I hesitated nonetheless and stared down at the note.
“No,” a soft voice reached my ears. It was a whisper but I heard quite well and I knew instantly who it belonged to.
I moved closer to Autumn.
“Gwen?” She muttered and a dark frown marred her face. Her mouth went in a pout and she suddenly yelled. “No!”
Her body started to shake uncontrollably.
I reached for her instantly.
“Autumn!” I called deeply, in an attempt to pull her out of whatever she was in.
But the hold on her seemed to be very strong.
Beads of perspiration broke out of her forehead which was surprising because she was naked.
“Autumn!” I called again with so much strength.
No reply came. The shuddering continued and she started whispering some gibberish.
What the heck is happening?
