My heartbeat almost stops in anticipation. Though, a part of me wants Elixir to be innocent. I've gotten used to her so much.
But with what Mercury had told me, I'm forced to believe anything can happen. Anyone and everyone can be your enemy. Besides, this is me against the world.
Xavier regarded the notepad and the note for a moment. Suddenly, his eyes widened with shock.
He looked at me and suddenly burst into laughter. I didn't know if I was supposed to be happy or sad.
“Alpha?” I called softly.
He didn't respond. Instead, he moved to his desk and dropped the notepad with so much strength that the desk gave way, and all the books on it scattered on the floor.
I needed no one to tell me that he was angry. What I didn't know was who he was angry at. Me or Elixir.
He looked up at me suddenly and I could clearly see him fighting with his wolf. He's almost changing but he's stopping himself at the same time.
Something was definitely wrong! Why is he so angry?
“Elixir is_” he paused and my heart beat started to pound madly in my heart. “_the traitor,” he announced.
For a moment, I stood still, trying to digest the whole announcement. Finally, a gasp escaped my throat.
No way!
I rushed closer to the Alpha suddenly and searched for the notepad amidst the other books on the floor. I took the note too and compared them.
It matched! Wait a moment! The person I've been looking for all these while was close to me?
I nearly fainted. And to even think she knew everything about me!
“I'm going to kill her! I'm going to torture the truth out of her!” Xavier yelled suddenly, jerking me out of my thoughts.
I regained my sanity and got up. I turned to the Alpha with a solemn expression. “There is more you need to know.”
There was no use hiding it again. If Elixir is truly the spy, then I'm not at all safe. I can as well tell the Alpha everything.
Xavier gathered his brows as he regarded me. “What's it?”
I swallowed harder and fear entered my features. I can't believe I have been the one behind all the failures we've been having.
“Talk Autumn!” He thundered, forcing his Alpha aura on me.
Though, he didn't need that. I was going to tell him everything anyway. But I can also understand his anger. Gosh, I'm even angry at myself right now.
“I_” my voice trembled. “I told her everything!” I said at once.
Xavier stared, with confusion written all over him. “I don't understand. What did you tell her?”
I took a step backward, in fear. I wonder what he's going to do to me when he learns of the truth.
“Elixir knows I'm not Gwen.”
“What? How?”
Well, it looks like he's taking it calmer than I expected.
“The first day I arrived in the palace, Elixir came over and I ended up spilling the bean that I was not Gwen.”
Xavier's eyes turned to red instantly and I saw him clench his fists hard beside him.
My heart nearly stopped. What's he going to do? Is he going to kill me?
“You are?” He thundered. “You have been the reason why nothing has been working well for me! The reason why I haven't been able to find Gwen?” His voice grew deeper and colder and harsher.
At this point, I could feel the heat emanating from him.
I adjusted unconsciously but shockingly, he advanced closer, filling the space between us faster.
“Im_im sorry. I didn't know,” I stammered and I felt my wolf rush to the back of my head.
Riley, who was starting to be strong, was suddenly hiding. I mean what could be worse more than your mate killing you?
Because the only thing I could see at this moment was Death.
“Please, I can explain. Alpha, this is_”
“Shut up!” He yelled and his voice sounded like lightning and thunder combined. The command in them sealed my mouth.
I couldn't move them and whenever I tried to, I felt this pain. It was normal actually. The Alpha Aura or Command was so powerful, that there's no way I can avoid it.
At this point, the only thing I could do was move away and then cry.
I couldn't stop the tears from streaming down my face. I felt helpless, hopeless, sadness.
“How dare you go against my order?” He questioned, and at this point, I saw him bring out his claws. “I specifically gave you an order. No one was supposed to know about your real identity and you went against it?”
I was forced to a sudden stop as my back hit the wall, telling me I was at the end of my road. I could only watch the Alpha advance nearer now.
I tried to talk again but it was very difficult for me.
When he was closer enough, he gripped me by the neck. I felt his claw dug into my skin as I fought him.
It's of no use anyway because he's stronger. Yet, I continued to struggle.
His hold around my neck tightened, and his eyes went even redder. If I knew better, I would say he would be shifting soon.
“Alpha!” A voice yelled from a distance or maybe it was because, Xavier's second hand was slightly by my ear, blocking my sense of hearing.
The Alpha squeezed even harder and I started to choke. I felt my life slowly leaving me. Even the strength to fight for my life was no longer there.
Rick showed up beside Xavier. “What the fuck!” His expression mirrored shock for a moment but it soon transformed. A smile evaded his face.
I let go and closed my eyes.
Is this how I'm going to die, moon goddess? I'm going to be killed by my mate?
Images of my parents flashed across my mind. I remembered the promise I made to them. I won't be able to fulfill that.
I guess the moon goddess doesn't like me much. No, scratch that. She doesn't like me at all and I would like to ask her the reason in person.
