We walked to the field. Rick had already gathered people here.
I wondered whose corpse Rick got in such a short time. He's always swift and perfect. That's why I chose him as my beta.
I, Rick, and Augustine moved closer to the girl lying in the cart. She had black hair and brown eyes.
Blood stained her clothes and half of her face suggesting she must have taken poison too.
“I poisoned her,” I announced to Augustine. “This is Autumn, Anthony’s daughter.
Augustine nodded once. “She's such a beauty as Philip had said. If he had been here, he might have convinced you not to kill her.”
“Well, now, she's dead!” I muttered, not even concerned by what he said. I looked at Rick. “Dispose her!”
Rick bowed and turned to the other men.
I turned to Augustine instead. “I need to go and fetch my Luna now.”
“I will come with you!” He said hurriedly.
What!
I hadn't expected that.
I smiled softly. “Gwen is my Luna, I know how best to handle her and bring her home. Besides, that's what she must have thought. It's not the first time she would be playing this game with me anyway.”
Augustine reciprocated the smile and it was sincere. “Bring her home then, Alpha!”
“I will!”
40 minutes remaining.
I started to shift as I stepped out of the packhouse. Plans have already been made. The shelter was close to the magic town where Autumn is now, including clothes she and I can change into.
I just need to beat the time. I need to get there before it's too late.
I raced through the woods, as fast as my legs could carry me. I didn't want to stop a beat. No!
I took the shortcut. It was helpful.
I barely ran for up to thirty minutes when I saw Magic Town far away.
I increased my speed, putting my all to it.
When I got to the supposed shelter, my heartbeat was beating so fast.
I started to shift back because if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to enter through the door.
I rushed inside, naked but that was the least of my trouble.
Autumn was laid down on one of the mattresses. The colour on her face was slowly changing which made me concerned.
I moved closer nonetheless and opened the antidote. I was about to pour the liquid in her mouth then I reasoned that since she was unconscious, it might not be a nice idea. The liquid could slip out into the corner of her mouth.
So, I poured it into my mouth and transferred it into her mouth through kissing.
I did it several times until I was sure she had swallowed the whole liquid.
I waited but nothing happened. I reached for her hand and she was very cold.
My heart hammered wildly at my traitorous heart. Did I miscalculate? Was I late?
I rubbed her hand several times and opened her eyes several times as well but nothing was working.
It was the perfect time to panic. The fucking antidote was supposed to work! What is happening?
At this point, I couldn't think clearly. I took her off the mattress and placed her on the floor.
But maybe I shouldn't have done that because she was getting very cold.
I scooped her up again and gently placed her in my arms, hoping I could warm her up.
I stayed like this for a few minutes before I checked her heartbeat. Nothing was beating!
Autumn was dead!
“Autumn!” I called.
I felt a stab of pain at the realization. No! It was just not possible.
My gut was telling me otherwise, while my mate wallowed in misery in me.
No! I would not kill my mate! Fuck that! I will not lose Autumn as well!
The thought of losing Autumn created a pit hole in me. I never knew it was going to be like this. If I knew, I wouldn't have gone with the plan.
Anthony was right! My rage would be the death of me!
A howl escaped me as I cuddled Autumn in my arms, refusing to accept she was gone at one side.
Could she be gone like that?
Then what is the essence of the whole plan? I've never felt miserable in my entire life. I've never felt used in my entire life.
The moon goddess _
Even Though she controls all the wolves and could play you_ those were Rick’s words.
I knew it! I knew it was the moon goddess. She was playing with me. She was proving to me that she was the most powerful.
I've never believed her. It was why I've always gone against her words.
But at that moment, the only person I could think of was her. I just needed her to restore Autumn's life.
Fuck! I can't bear to lose my mate!
I didn't even want to think of anything else. I just want Autumn to wake up.
I stared down at Autumn again and howled again. Pains were eating me deep.
“Autumn!” I called again, with the hope that she would reply to me. I started to touch every part of her body. I was desperate!
“You have to fucking wake up!” I yelled desperately.
I went still after trying for several minutes. Images of when I first met Autumn flashed through my mind.
All these while she tried to tell me it wasn't her or her family that kidnapped Gwen.
And how I had refused to listen. If I had listened. Maybe Autumn would have presented the note earlier. Maybe I would have discovered Elixir sooner.
Maybe the whole plan would have worked perfectly. It definitely would have!
Again, my rage will be the death of me.
Suddenly, that familiar scent pulled me in.
I looked down at Autumn but there was no movement. I touched her and felt her warm body.
My face brightened up.
I could hear her heartbeat now.
My Autumn was back to me!
