                    Autumn
My consciousness returned to me suddenly. I gasped and opened my eyes.
My heart unknowingly increased its beat. It felt like it was surviving an attack.
My gaze searched around quickly. Where am I?
Then it came back in a rush. I remember everything. Knowing the truth about Elixir, then the Alpha getting angry and squeezing the life out of me.
Wait! Am I dead?
The realization settled in after some minutes and a tear escaped my eyes. I wonder how my parents would react when they heard about my death.
I promised them. I promised to rescue them and get our pack together.
That wasn't the only sin I've committed. I've been nursing feelings for the man I was supposed to hate, just because he was my mate.
Yes, he's my mate and the only one that could unlock my wolf. I thought there was no other way. Alpha Xavier was too powerful. There was no way I could go against him without armies!
All of our pack were annihilated. If they can't do it, where can I find who can?
My last option was either finding Gwen or unlocking my wolf.
But I couldn't even do anything, and instead, I was killed. I was killed by my mate! What a death!
I got up, my gaze still searching the unfamiliar room. I stepped out into the green field.
Which side of the afterlife am I?
Everywhere looked beautiful. It has been a while since I've admired nature. It was one of the things I loved doing.
A powerful scent engulfed me suddenly. It was familiar, but I hadn't had such a strong scent for a while.
It looked like I was extra active.
“Autumn,” a familiar deep voice called suddenly.
I turned towards the direction, and I was shocked at who I was staring at.
Xavier?
He moved closer. He was clothed in a grey trouser and a long coat.
I blinked once, then twice as he got closer. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? I thought I was dead. Why am I seeing Xavier? It must be a trick because this is not Xavier's palace.
He stopped in front of me, a smile brightening his face.
“I got you some fruits.”
I regarded the fruits for a moment. “Am I dead?”
“No, I_” he stopped almost immediately and leaned closer. I felt a rush of adrenaline instantly. “You’ve healed!” He muttered, a bit shocked.
I ran my fingers around my neck. Alpha squeezed the heck out of me.
“How long was I out?”
“Six hours.”
I took a step backward. “What do you want with me?”
He regarded me for a moment. The smile was gone but he wasn't frowning either. His face did something in between.
“Are you going to kill me?” I asked when he didn't reply immediately.
Scratch that! If he wanted to kill me, he would have.
He opened his mouth to say something.
My heartbeat accelerated all of a sudden.
“Wait!” I snapped. “Before you say anything else. I would like to tell you this! So that you don't get angry when you hear about it later on.”
He nodded once. “What's it?”
I hesitated and wondered if I was supposed to tell him about Gwen. I mean he deserves to know who he wanted to kill the innocent people for.
“Gwen_” I started. “_isn't who you think she is. According to what I heard and confirmed, she's_” I hesitated briefly. “Having guys around. I mean aside from you. So, I think she decided to stop or something. So, whoever Elixir works for is definitely a man and someone who Gwen is involved with sexually,” I revealed.
He gathered his brows and I could see that he was getting angry. But I wasn't concerned at this moment. I said what I had to.
“Don't say that about Gwen. You don't know the kind of person she is,” he muttered in a thick voice.
I shrugged slightly. “I don't care. That's just what I know about her.”
For now.
Now, something is strange. Xavier isn't always cool with me. He's always angry, never wanting to hear anything. But now he's not.
But that's not the only strange thing, something is strange with me as well. I had a nightmare. And now that I think about it, I can't help but find the dream so real.
“I'm sorry,” I said quickly, thinking I'd hit a nerve. I sincerely don't want him to get angry.
He waved a hand. “It's ok. I don't plan on killing you.”
“Then why did you try to,” I said, softly.
“I had to. It was part of the plan. Come, let's go inside and I will explain everything to you,” he said friendly, shocking me again.
I followed him inside the house, the place I walked out of a few minutes ago.
The place is moderate. It has a nice bed, nice chairs, and, well, a bright color, something the Alpha isn't familiar with.
I found a chair to sit on.
He didn't sit immediately. Instead, he retrieved a knife and a plate. Then, he returned to me with the watermelon and the orange.
He sat in front of me and started to cut the watermelon.
“Do you remember what I said about sparing your parents if Elixir is truly the spy?”
I nodded once.
“Good. Your parents are safe now. They are in one of the rooms in the pack. They will be treated and guarded,” he explained.
I blinked once, then twice. What? Did he mean it?
“The plan was not at all good because you had to die and Elixir needed to know you were dead. But then, I didn't think you would have agreed to it, especially knowing you could pass away from it.”
What!
“Are you saying I was dead for six hours?”
“No,” he muttered and shook his head.
I released the breath I didn't know I was holding.
“You were dead for over three hours,” a smile was suddenly sticking out of his face. “You just went to sleep after I gave you the antidote.”
That was new. I have never seen him smile when we are together. But then, I'm not even in the mood to smile at him.
“Actually, you almost died for real,” he confessed. “And I'm really sorry for that,” he muttered.
Another strange thing to witness today. How could Xavier apologize to me?
I was confused and shocked all together. What is happening?
He finished what he was doing and pushed the plate to me. I regarded the fruit for a moment. Or had he poisoned the fruit?
“Oh! No! I know that look!” He said quickly, took one of the watermelons, and put it in his mouth. Then, he chewed slowly.
“See, it's not poisoned.”
I nodded once and stared at it again. My stomach rumbled aloud, showing how hungry I was.
“Do you_” I started and looked up at him again, only to discover he was staring at me. I shuddered at the impact. “_think I'm innocent?”
His gaze held mine. “I know you are,” he said sincerely.
Good!
I pushed the plate back to him.
“Then I would like to leave with my parents and my pack.”
He looked shocked for a moment like he didn't expect me to say what I just did. I didn't expect that either. I mean, I've always fantasized about us being together all the time.
But then I know it's not possible. The Alpha and I can never be together. Not after what has transpired so far. The Alpha threatened my family and killed my pack family.
They will never forgive me if I stay with him.
I was majorly concerned with unlocking my wolf. That I ruled out all other things.
Even now, it will take me a while to forgive myself for even fantasizing about Xavier when I should have been thinking of getting revenge for what he had done.
But I just want to live freely with my parents and my pack. That's enough for me, for now.
And if the moon goddess gives me a second chance mate, I will have my revenge on the Alpha.
“I need your help,” he said suddenly, startling me.
I didn't respond, so he continued.
“I need you as the real Gwen. I want to accept you as my mate!”
What!
