Autumn
I waited. I was anxious. I couldn't wait to get feedback from Mercury.
I paced as I waited.
The door opened suddenly, and excitement filled my heart as I turned to look at Mercury.
Instead, even before I turned, I scented that same mint. Of course, it was the .
He stopped by the door like he was scared of entering. This was the room he had always entered without hindrance. I wonder what he's doing now.
“I heard the little mess you created,” he muttered, yet didn't try to move closer to me.
He hasn't changed. He was still in the clothes he was putting on an hour ago. It's not that I've changed myself. I must meet with some of my pack members before I think of doing that.
“Actually, I was surprised that was the first thing you asked. Don't you want to see your parents?”
Why is he suddenly acting nice?
“Are you going to show them to me?”
He snorted. “That's why I'm here. If you want to see them, you can follow me. They woke up a few minutes ago,” he revealed.
I was excited. I really want to see them. I can't wait to tell them the truth—all the things I have hidden from them.
“I want to.”
“Good!” He turned around and stepped out.
He's truly a man of little words, not that it concerns me anyway.
I followed him quickly. We didn't say anything as we moved along the hallway.
If my parents are still in this place, isn't that dangerous? Well, he knows his way around. And if his plan fails, it won't be on me. Besides, I would be able to save my parents then.
We entered a different hallway. I've never been here.
“So, what did you do to Elixir?” he asked suddenly, cutting through the silence that has ensued between us.
“Just some punishment. Something to keep her busy while I settle down.”
He chuckled. “Nice one over there, but,” he stopped suddenly and turned to look at me. He hesitated briefly, as if he were contemplating whether to talk or not. “Actually, you were dead, Autumn, for a few minutes,” he said eventually.
“The three hours was a timeframe given to us. It was the time we had to get the antidote to you, but I got there late.”
My heart skipped a beat. I don't know why I'm surprised because this wasn't the first time I heard it. Maybe I thought it was a lie. Aurora did tell me the moon goddess bought me back.
“The moon goddess brought you back, Autumn. Oh, I'm telling you this so you can worship her, whatever you guys do, because I don't even like her. She has a preference!” He snorted. “So much to be a goddess,” he mocked and started to walk again.
I stood still for a moment, shocked for a moment. I could only stare right behind him. What kind of wolf doesn't like the moon goddess? Well, someone like Xavier obviously. Isn't that why he's so wicked and always refuses to see the truth?
He's a devil that wants to be on his own.
We entered another hallway with soldiers standing guard at every corner.
He stopped in front of a door. “We are here,” he announced eventually.
I felt a surge of happiness at the fact that I was going to meet my parents.
He turned to me. “I will stop here. You can go in and, well, come here at any time. The only thing I will advise is that you don't come here often so we don't give away our cover,” he advised.
I nodded once. “I won't,” I promised.
He nodded once, turned around, and walked away without another word.
I pushed the door open and entered it.
Two different scents engulfed me immediately. Even though I had yet to see them, I was certain they were in the room.
Happiness surged through me at this.
The room was like a small apartment. It had a small living room, which was greatly furnished.
“Mom! Dad!” I called happily.
The only door leading out of the living room opened, and my mother stepped out. She hesitated briefly as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
She couldn't anyway. I could see the shocked look on her face.
My father stepped out beside her, but he didn't notice me immediately. He looked at mother. “Have you eaten?”
My mother was still looking at me, beyond shocked. “Autumn,” she stammered.
It was at this point that my father turned to look at me. I didn't know why he didn't notice at first. He should have scented me already.
“Dad!” I called softly and took a step closer. I was overwhelmed with emotions. “Mom!”
My mom started to sob. “Autumn!” She called.
I rushed forward and ended up in her embrace. I've missed them so much.
My mother rubbed my back slowly and continued to sob.
I was so scared. I thought I was not going to see them again.
“How come? How are you still alive?” My father was shocked.
I pulled back to look at him. “It's a long story, dad.”
Mom pulled me into another hug. This time around, she had a wide smile on her face. “I'm so happy to see you again, my daughter.”
I reciprocated her smile. “Me too. Come, I will explain everything to you,” I muttered and led her to the chair. My dad followed us.
We sat down, and I took my time to explain everything to them. How the Alpha planned to poison me so he could save me later on.
My mom was the first to laugh. “Really? I was as surprised as when I woke up myself. I thought he gave us poison. But it turned out that he fabricated the whole thing.”
My dad released a sigh. “Well, I'm still sceptical about it. And no matter how much I think about it, I'm unable to point out any reasons for his actions. Why did he spare us?”
I looked at Dad. “Because he needs me to pretend to be his Luna. He needed to find Gwen, his Luna.”
My mom and dad exchanged glances before they looked at me again.
“Pretend to be his Luna? How?”
I released a sigh. I don't know how much I'm supposed to tell them, but then I believe they deserve to know everything. I need to get them prepared for the worst, especially now that I plan on going against Xavier.
“Well, I look like Gwen so much. And now that she's missing, he wants me to pretend to be her.”
My mom hesitated briefly and inclined her head to the side. “Wait, did you say you look like Gwen?”
I nodded quickly. “Besides, the King is now convinced that we have no hand in the Luna's disappearance.”
My mom released a sigh and reached for my hand. “The Alpha is dangerous. You need to stay away from him.”
I sighed and met her gaze. “I can't, mom.”
My father nodded once. “Your mother is right. The Alpha isn't to be trusted. We need to leave as quickly as we can.”
I shook my head briefly. “I can't, Dad, because Alpha Xavier is my mate.”
Father and Mother stared at me in shock.
