“What!” Anthony, my father was shocked beyond words.
I slowly nodded my head. “King Xavier is the one I have been waiting for. He's the only one that can unlock my wolf.”
My mom, Lisbeth, shook her head slowly. “No! It can't be!”
Anthony ignored his wife's remarks. “Why didn't you tell us all this while? How could you bear the burden all this while?”
Yes, that's right. Those times when they were in the cell. I sincerely thought it was best to keep it from them.
“Because I didn't want you to be worried.”
My father looked away for a moment, and I could sense that he was thinking about it. He eventually looked at me. “What's your plan now?”
I smiled softly. “Well, the Alpha has successfully unlocked my wolf. It's currently active.”
My mother's eyes went wide and dark. She seemed to be passing through a variety of shocks.
I mean, I understand. Alpha Xavier killed a lot of our pack members and took the rest as prisoners. That aside, he imprisoned my parents. My parents must be scared that I might be caught between where my loyalty lies.
Well, I was, but not anymore. Besides, my pack comes first.
“But,” my mom started suddenly but stopped almost immediately. “How can the Alpha be your mate? How can that be?” She muttered as if she were talking to herself.
“So, what's your plan now?” My dad repeated.
I looked away. “I plan to reject the Alpha when all this is over. Meanwhile, I will make sure I free the moon-like pack, and we are never going to be threatened by anyone again, not even the Alpha King. Never again.” I laid emphasis on the “Never Again” because I meant it so much.
“So, you are going to avenge?”
I nodded once. “I'm going to pay back all he has ever done to us.”
My mom started to shake her head. “You can't possibly have such a fate, Autumn. You can't,” she shivered slightly, and I could see she was on the verge of tears again. She looked at my father. “We can't place her in the midst of it.”
At this point, I'm confused.
“Mum, is something wrong?”
My mom looked away for a moment. “There's a prophecy. It was the reason why Stephen killed all the witches.”
Wait, what? Could it be what Aurora told me?
“Is Stephen Xavier's father?”
My dad nodded once. “He is. He used to be my friend.”
What!
My father is a friend of Xavier's father.
“Then, how are you guys enemies now? To the extent that Xavier was quick to accuse you of kidnapping his Luna.”
My father released a sigh. “It's a long story, actually.”
I was curious. “I would like to know.”
He nodded once. “I will tell you, but listen to what your mom has to say first.”
I released a frustrated sigh. “Ok, tell me what all this is all about. You are scaring me, mom.”
My mom released a ragged sigh. “My mom received a prophecy. A witch will destroy the Oceans Howl Pack. At the time, I had issues with my mother because she didn't want me to marry your father. So, I ran away from home,” she explained.
My father nodded several times in support of what she was saying.
“But then, it wasn't like I was treated well. I mean, I was a witch with no witch power. It was like being a wolf without a wolf.”
I understand that perfectly—the pain and shame that come with it. I'm so grateful that I have a wolf. Or what would I have done?
“But then when I was pregnant. She told me I was going to give birth to a child that would fulfil the prophecy. That was why your father and I hid you all this while. We just wanted to stay away from Xavier.”
I gathered my brows as realisation dawned on me. “You knew I was destined to wipe off Xavier's pack from the surface of the world? And you never told me? What else are you keeping away from me?”
My mom swallowed harder as tears evaded her eyes. “We didn't want to put you in the midst of it. We didn't want you to fulfil such a cruel prophecy. I don't want that from you.”
I closed my eyes for a moment and released a sigh. No matter what, this prophecy can't be avoided.
I don't even plan on going around it.
“Mum, you have to stop thinking about it. The Alpha deserves whatever comes his way now.”
My mom seemed shocked for a moment. “What! You will fight with your mate?”
I huffed. “I don't have a mate anymore, mother. I'm going to reject Xavier when everything is all over. He's my nemesis now.”
My mom swallowed harder.
I released another sigh. “You don't need to be worried, mom. I can't be Xavier's mate. And everyone has to pay for their sins.”
Father nodded once. “She's right. It's the prophecy; there's nothing you can do about it. Besides, he brought this upon himself. If Xavier hadn't accused us wrongly, all this wouldn't be happening.”
My father is right. Xavier was the first to make an enemy of me. It won't be my fault if I ruin him. He deserves everything that will happen to him now.
I looked at my father. “Tell me then why you were one of Oceans Howl Pack's enemies when you used to be Xavier's father's friend. And does Xavier know about this?”
Father shook his head briefly. “I don't think so. He believes I'm his father's worst enemy. Maybe his father didn't bother explaining to him. He made me swear anyways, not to have anything to do with his son or his pack forever,” he explained.
I was intrigued. “What happened between you two?”
Father looked away as if thinking about it or reminiscing about the days. “Stephen and I used to be friends. We were inseparable after I saved his life. But I discovered he wasn't who I thought he was,” he muttered and looked at me again. I could see the pain in his eyes. “He wasn't only ruthless; he was wicked and dangerous. Stephen is by far more dangerous than his son, Xavier. He killed without thinking and was always blinded by his anger. I tried to change his mind by speaking to him, but he believed he could gain the wolves' world. Well, he did. Everyone trembled at the mention of his name. Stephen conquered a lot of lands and made himself the king,” he explained.
Interesting!
“So, I decided to adjust back. There was no way I would continue being friends with someone like him. He spared your mother because he owed me one. He told me he wouldn't have to if I hadn't saved his life. Your mother was pregnant then,” he stopped slightly and released a sigh. “Then he made me promise not to have anything to do with his son. This was why I declined Xavier's offer to be under him. I guess Stephen was always scared that he could have made a mistake by sparing your mother. Figures!”
I stood up. “You don't need to think much about anything. I will get you all out of here. And by that, I mean everyone, including our pack members,” I swore.
My mother pulled me into another hug. She was so happy.
My father merely nodded his head, though the smile was still on his face as well.
“I will come back,” I assured them.
When I stepped out of the room, I hesitated behind the door. Xavier and I sure have a long way back.
Does it make sense that my father saved his father, only for me to kill his son and end his lineage?
