I was filled with thoughts when I stepped inside my room.
I paused slightly when I scented someone in the room. The scent wasn't so familiar, yet it wasn't strange either.
“Hello!” That familiar voice said, and then Rick walked out of the dark.
I regarded him for a moment with a straight face. I still remember the fact that he smiled when Xavier was squeezing the life out of me. Strange, isn't it?
“I didn't know you were allowed here anytime,” I scoffed.
He didn't say anything, or maybe he was thinking of what to say.
I stepped right inside so I would be able to see him clearly.
Was he here with ill intentions?
“What happened to you?” He asked suddenly.
I looked up at him for a moment with a sceptical gaze. “I don't understand you.”
“Your wolf,” he muttered, and my heart skipped a beat. “It's active, isn't it?”
Really?
I watched him for a moment, at his expression. His expression was straight and unreadable.
“I don't understand what you are saying,” I lied.
He scoffed and turned away. He walked to the bedstand, and suddenly, a pocket knife was coming my way.
It's amazing how I'm able to see it, but I didn't move away. The knife wheezed past my ear, which shocked me for another moment.
I looked up at him and caught him staring. I knew he missed me intentionally. He looked like he wanted to catch me unprepared. Though I'm not sure what he was trying to find. That my wolf was truly active?
He walked closer to me. “My eyes are on you, Autumn. I will know if you try to make any ill move towards the Alpha,” he muttered, his expression hard, and it felt like he wanted to devour me. “If you try to harm the King now that your wolf is active, I will kill you!” He swore and stepped out.
I scoffed and turned around to look at the knife that was stuck in the wooden frame.
Did Rick just threaten me? No, he just acted like he was protecting the king. Could he really be among the people that kidnapped Gwen? If so, he wouldn't be so concerned about Xavier. Well, there's something wrong somewhere, and I'm going to find out.
The door opened suddenly, and Mercury walked inside.
I took a step nearer to her with anticipation. “How is it?”
Mercury smiled softly. “I was able to meet one of them, and I've arranged a meeting. If we can move now, it will be the best for us.”
I smiled as well. “Good. I'm less busy now. Let's go.”
It's not like I have anything important I'm doing, by the way. Unlike before, the Alpha isn't monitoring me.
Mercury nodded once and turned around to leave. I followed her quickly.
We stepped out of the room and moved along the hallway for a moment.
I glanced back every now and then to be certain we weren't monitored or followed.
We stepped out into the field, and I hesitated. Instead, I watched Mercury walk away for a moment. I felt Deja vu all of a sudden.
I've always wondered if my pack members would accept me. If they knew I had no wolf, they wouldn't want to follow me. They wouldn't want me to be their Alpha.
And I wasn't so wrong. They were scared of having someone like me lead them. So, my father told them about my silver wolf, but that didn't change anything. I was still the wolfless daughter of the Alpha. I was still useless.
Now that I think about it, I would need to convince them. At least now, I'm certain that my wolf will be active in few days. I have nothing to worry about now.
Mercury stopped walking suddenly, probably just discovering I wasn't walking with her. She looked back with a confused expression.
I released a ragged sigh and hurried to meet up with her. It is now or never!
We stepped inside the hut at the far end of the field. It looked empty and, well, full of cobwebs, showing that it's not a place that people frequent.
“No one is here, but they said they would be,” Mercury complained.
A familiar scent reached my nose suddenly. It was faint but still evident.
I shook my head briefly. “No, they are here,” I announced.
It took a few minutes before three men walked out of the door by our right. A woman soon joined them.
They stopped almost immediately and regarded me for a moment.
“Autumn?” The woman was the first to call. She stared in shock and disbelief.
I recognised her immediately. She was my father's sister. Damn! I thought she was dead!
I looked at her and slowly nodded.
June smiled and rushed towards me. She hugged me, and I did the same.
“I thought you were really dead. There was rumour circulating that you were killed by the Alpha King,” she sobbed against my shoulder.
I've missed her so much.
A scoff. “And so? What if she's not dead?” Someone made a remark.
How could I not recognise the elders of the moon-like pack? They were so against me because I had no wolf. Well, they aren't to blame. How could a lion without a paw lead an army?
“How could you say that, Frederick?” June snapped, looking back at the three elders.
“Of course! I'm not at all concerned that she's alive. How is her being alive of any use to us?” Frederick seemed so annoyed.
“Yes, Frederick is right,” Jude supported. “It's not like she can get us out of here.
June regarded the men for a moment. “Really?” she demanded softly. “You are not even glad she's alive? I mean, she only needed to find her mate, and she would get her wolf. Why isn't she useful?”
Ben cleared his throat meaningfully. “June, we all know Frederick is right. See, three of the elders are dead, you know, right? It doesn't matter who is still alive. What matters is who can help us. Autumn has been without her powers for over 5 years. What difference does it make now?”
“Yes! If she had her power, we wouldn't even have been taken by King Xavier,” Frederick added quickly.
“My wolf is active!” I said suddenly, putting a stop to whatever they were about to say.
They all turn to look at me.
“What?” June exclaimed softly.
“Nonsense! No way!” Frederick said suddenly.
I smiled softly and looked behind him. A plank was on the floor behind him. I pulled it out with my power and let it move towards Frederick but stopped before it would hit him.
“Now, that's not the only news I have for you. Look behind you,” I said and looked at Frederick.
He complied, and so did the rest.
“What! How?”
They stared in shock at the plank caught in the air.
I let the plank drop.
“My wolf is active, but I haven't had my first shift. I will, soon, so you shouldn't be worried about it, but I'm also a witch, and what I have just shown you is what I can do,” I explained.
“what!” Frederick exclaimed. He was too shocked to speak.
June turned to me; happiness marred her face. “Have you found your mate?”
I nodded once. “I've been marked, and my wolf is currently active.”
June sobbed quietly and pulled me into another hug. She pulled back almost immediately and turned to the other elders. “Who said Autumn isn't qualified to be the next Alpha? She's an Alpha and not an Omega! Accept your Alpha now or you bear the consequences!”
Jude and Ben bowed their heads.
I looked at Frederick, amazed by his stubbornness. I wasn't expecting him to fall easily anyway. Frederick is very pompous.
He went on his knee suddenly, shocking everyone, including me.
