Xavier
"You are never going to be strong enough. You are very useless! You are not the true blood of the Alpha! You are not even my son!" He grunted, forcing the words out as if the mere sound of it disgusted him, or maybe it was the seven-year-old boy standing in front of him.
The boy didn't know what actually disgusted him.
"He's your son!" A woman in her twenties sobbed at one corner. "He's Xavier, and he's your son."
"Never!" The man spat out angrily. "This useless thing will never be mine!" He hesitated briefly and looked at the boy. "He's crying? Fuck! I knew there was no way! My child would not cry like this! Get him out of my sight before I kill him!" He yelled and started out of the room.
The woman rushed after him. "He's only a child. He's just seven."
I woke up suddenly, with a grunt if not a scream. I don't like screaming whenever I have a nightmare. It makes me look very weak. Damn! I don't like having nightmares.
But somehow, I haven't been able to stop that recently. My fear was slowly returning.
The door opened, and Rick walked inside. "Xavier?" He moved nearer.
"Did I scream?"
"No, just some inaudible words."
Beads of perspiration have started to tickle down my face. I wiped off some from my forehead. Rick knows me so well. He's the only one that knows how messed up my life has always been.
I got up and walked to my little library. Rick followed me.
"Is it the same dream?"
I grabbed a bottle of water and gulped it down in one go, not minding the fact that it was pouring all over me as I aggressively tried to drink them all at once.
I finished it and squeezed the bottle in my hand. "It's the same dream, all over and over again. I can't seem to be able to get rid of it."
"But you stopped dreaming about it," Rick said, worried.
That's right.
"How come it's back? I thought you've conquered it," he muttered, sceptical.
I grunted. "You still don't understand what's happening, Rick? Do you?" I turned to look at him. "My Luna is gone! I can't find her! Do you know how long she has been gone?"
He moved his mouth but didn't answer.
"It's two weeks now," I said as a matter of fact. "I can't find Gwen anywhere! I'm going to lose her as I've lost my mother!"
His eyes widened slightly before I looked away. "No, you won't lose her."
I smiled and sat. I know better than to rely on lost hopes.
"Do you think we should inform Alpha Rowan about this? Maybe he would make the search fruitful. He would join us, and we would eventually be able to announce it to everyone. It will aid us."
I thought about it for a moment. If Rowan hears that his lovely sister is missing, he would definitely take it up. There's no way we can avoid a war.
But at this point, I don't think I'm scared of this so-called war. What I'm scared of is not finding Gwen alive.
"And what does that make me?" I asked instead, ignoring his question.
When he didn't answer me, I looked up at him. "How do you explain how Luna got missing under her Alpha's watch? A powerful Alpha at that. People will laugh at me. They will say perhaps I'm not as powerful as I have always painted myself to be. My Alphas will rise against me. They will try to take my crown," I cracked and looked away.
As much as I think about it, it feels like the end result.
"If I can't keep my Luna safe, am I then fit to keep a pack? Perhaps my father was right about me."
"No! Stop it!" Rick muttered thickly. "You are nothing, your father said."
I scoffed.
He released a sigh when I didn't say anything. "What should we do about Autumn? She seems to be moving around the palace too much."
"Nothing. Let her be."
"But_" Rick sounded agitated.
"Nothing," I said quickly, cutting through his words. "She doesn't matter now. I'm not worried about her. She didn't kidnap my mate to begin with."
"But she could be."
"Leave it, Rick," I said quickly, cutting him off again. I took a book and opened it. It was one of the books I got from the city. It's about war statistics. "Autumn isn't our problem. We have a better one. Get prepared; we are leaving soon."
"Where to?"
I have no idea.
"Let's scout the night."
He nodded, bowed, and stepped out.
I coughed as he closed the door. I picked the book again. I hesitated when I saw blood on the book.
When I looked at my palm, I was skeptical. How did I get blood on myself?
I walked to the mirror fastened to the bathroom door and stared. I have traces of blood beside my lips.
I pulled out my tongue, and there was blood on it. Then realisation dawned on me.
I must have coughed out blood.
What the...
"Who is out there?" I called out.
The door opened behind me. "Yes, my king."
"Get the doctor."
"Yes, Alpha," he responded and walked out.
I stared long at the blood. How could I throw up blood? I wasn't injured. Even if I was, I would have healed. I heal faster than other wolves.
The door opened again behind me. "I'm set," Rick announced.
I turned to look at him. "We are cancelling it. There's _" I was forced to stop as I coughed again.
But this time, it didn't stop at once. I had to cough three times, and for every cough, there was blood.
Rick was suddenly beside me. "What! What's this?" He sounded so surprised, even though I was unable to look at his expression.
I looked at my hand and realised it's soaked. That aside, I have blood all over my clothes.
The door opened again, and Albert walked inside.
"Good evening, my king."
"Albert, good! Now hurry and tell me why he is coughing blood." Rick yelled.
Albert moved closer quickly.
Then, I coughed again, spitting blood on Albert's face.
I saw the shock expression on his face as he beheld me for a moment.
"The King has been poisoned."
What!
