I was taken aback. I've never been so shocked in my entire life.
“That's not possible!” I muttered.
“I'm afraid it is, your majesty,” Albert confirmed my fear.
“But what kind of poison can affect the Alpha?”
Albert swallowed hard. “From my experience, I can say this is a poison made by the witches.”
I narrowed my gaze on him. By the witches?
“Don't splurt nonsense!” Rick yelled.
I started to cough again, and it felt like my inside was about to follow the blood out.
“Do something!” Rick yelled.
Albert hurried out of the room. He soon returned. “Here, eat,” he stretched out a leaf.
I took it and started chewing. The bitterness assaulted my tongue, but I kept chewing.
“The leaf will suppress it,” Albert assured.
He soon stretched out his hands to me. “Spat it out here, my king. Don't swallow it. We only needed the water. I was supposed to extract it.”
I nodded once and did as he had instructed. He stepped out of the room with it.
A few minutes passed, and I found out that I wasn't coughing again.
I walked to the bed, and Rick stood beside me, worries written all over his face. “Are you really alright?”
I nodded once. “I don't feel anything strange aside from wanting to cough out my intestine whenever I'm coughing,” I said with a laugh.
But it looks like Rick didn't catch the joke in it. He looked so worried. In fact, he wasn't as worried as he is now when Gwen went missing.
Albert walked inside and moved closer to me. “Your majesty_”
Rick looked at him. “What do you mean by poisoned by the witches?”
Albert looked away for a moment. It looked like he was scared. Then he looked up again.
“Your father had the same symptoms.”
What!
“It was the first time I saw that kind of poison. It works slowly, reducing the power of your wolf. You must have ingested a lot of it, and it must have been frequently,” he explained.
I stared, shocked.
I didn't know this about my father. Maybe because I wasn't close to him. I hated him anyway; I still do.
“B_” Rick started but stopped almost immediately. “You mean he swallowed the poison? And severally?”
Albert nodded once. “Yes. It could have been added to your water or food.”
It is now that I regret sending Tito away. When she was still here, she was always very careful about what I took in.
“Someone is trying to kill me,” I muttered.
Rick turned to me. “It's Autumn! It's definitely her!”
Albert looked at Rick, then me. “Who is Autumn?”
I groaned inwardly. “Is there a way we can know if the poison is in the food?” I asked Albert, intentionally ignoring his questions.
Rick and I are the only ones that know who Autumn really is. I'm not ready to add to it.
“Actually yes. Omegas can consume it. It reacts faster to them because most of them don't have a wolf, and well, the rest have weak wolves that aren't able to heal faster,” he explained.
I released a ragged wolf. Who could be trying to kill me? Obviously the people that kidnapped Gwen. But who could they be?
Could Autumn be right? Could they be among my Alphas? Well, Rowan doesn't know his sister is missing. How could he be trying to kill me? And whoever the person is, has access to my maids or my palace. It's how I'm able to ingest poison.
“Does it have a cure?” I asked.
Albert hesitated, as if thinking of the answer. “It used to. That was before the witches were killed.”
Rick felt a stab of annoyance. “What are you saying? What about what you just gave him? It stopped him from coughing.”
Apparently, I've transferred my anger issue to Rick.
“Well, that's just to suppress it, like I said earlier. And it's, in fact, part of the ingredients, but it's not the main one. There's a special plant that is only found among the witches. It's the only antidote. Without it, we can only manage it. If the poison is not much in your body and it hasn't stained your wolf, he can heal you,” he explained.
I let out a sigh.
“But you have to make sure you don't take any more of it.”
I nodded once. “Thank you. You are dismissed.”
Albert nodded once, bowed, and stepped out.
Rick looked at me again. “It's definitely Autumn!”
“Why do you think so? She has no gain in killing me. She already proved her innocence, and I'm ready to let her go.”
“Well, that doesn't change the fact that you accused her, killed some of the pack members, and even tortured her several times in the palace.”
That's right.
“Do you think she forgave you? She probably decided to kill you for vengeance.”
But I shouldn't drag her into this again.
“No, I don't think so. I don't want to accuse her wrongly,” I muttered.
“Well, it's not accusing her wrongly. Her mother is a witch, right? She could have given her the poison,” he argued.
As much as it seemed so easy to believe, it looked illogical.
“Her parents have been in my palace. How would they get the poison?”
“Well, they could have told Autumn where she could find it. Besides, I told you that I saw her messing around.”
I thought about it quickly. Truly, Autumn has a lot to gain. If she kills me, she will not only be free to leave, but she will be avenging her pack members deaths.
I killed them, didn't I? By accusing them wrongly.
I shook my head briefly. “I'm not going to accuse her until there's evidence.”
“Yes! And you will get one! Lock her up! Restrict her movements! She's really up to something.“
I released a sigh. “That won't happen. Let's work on finding Gwen.”
“What!” Rick seemed shocked by what I said. “Are you saying you dying means nothing?”
“Well, I'm not dying. There's a solution.”
“What solution!” Rick sounded more frustrated than I am, in fact. “There's none, Alpha, because all the witches were killed and everything was destroyed!” He stressed.
“Well, have you forgotten I have a strong wolf? I will heal,” I said nonchalantly. “Just make sure you work on what I eat and drink.”
There was a brief pause. “W_what if you don't heal?”
I looked at him for a moment. “I will accept anything that follows.”
“What!” Rick's forehead gathered amazingly.
I smiled. “I'm not better than my father. Why shouldn't I die like him?”
