I watched the maids pack my hair into a ponytail.
“I want a hair dye,” I said suddenly, shocking the maids.
Though I don't expect them to be. Gwen is used to dying her hair here and there. I'm merely acting like Gwen.
“What colour will you like?”
I thought about it for a moment. “Gold or silver if there is.”
“Alright, my queen. I will send words and get back to you. They will let us know if the colours you have mentioned are available,” she explained.
I nodded once.
They finished and stepped out.
Almost immediately, one of them stepped inside. “Elixir is here, my Queen.”
I turned to look at the maid. Is it 24 hours already? Amazing! I think I've forgotten her, and I was so used to her some days ago.
“Let her in.”
“Alright, my Queen,” the maid responded and stepped out.
Soon, Elixir walked inside. When she was in, she went on her knees and bowed her head. “I'm so sorry, my queen. Please, forgive me!”
I regarded her for a moment. “Really? How dare you act like that when you know me so well?” I feigned anger.
“I'm so sorry, your majesty. Please, forgive me!”
I released a sigh. “You are forgiven. Take care of yourself for two days before you resume.”
“Thank you so much, Luna!”
I watched her walk out of the room before I released another sigh. She's just too innocent and deceiving.
Mercury stepped inside. “Your Majesty.”
I looked up at her and saw the worry look on her face. “Are you alright? Is something wrong?”
She shook her head briefly. “Not really. There's news currently circulating about you. People are saying you are not Gwen.”
Were we not able to convince them?
“As we speak, the Alpha is having a meeting with the Alphas concerning it.”
“Is it up to that?”
She nodded once. “Some people are passing out information to people that are going to the cities. If it persists, Alpha Rowan might find out sooner. I think that's why the Alphas are agitated. Though,” she paused slightly. “I think one or two of the Alphas are connected to it somehow.”
“I used to think like that too. But why do you think so?”
“Philip spoke with Elixir last night.”
I stood up, shocked. “What?”
“I couldn't move closer to hear what they discussed. But what if Philip is who Elixir works for?”
What! What if that's the truth and my guess was right?
Then Philip is the one we have been looking for.
“Your majesty!” A voice called suddenly.
My heart skipped a beat unnecessarily. I haven't seen Xavier for two days now, and I don't know if I'm merely anxious or scared. He could have heard or seen me meet with the elders of the moon-like pack.
Mercury bowed slightly and stepped back when Xavier walked inside.
As usual, he was tall, and with the clothes he was wearing, he looked even more huge.
There was a frown on his face. That wasn't strange because I was used to it already.
“We need to go to the meeting hall now,” he muttered thickly.
I blink once, then twice. “What's happening?”
He took two steps closer, filling in the space between us. He was standing so close now, very close...too close for comfort.
“The Alphas doubt your identity. We are going to prove them wrong.”
Prove?
“Don't worry, you will be fine, I promise,” he assured, with a little smile.
Then he led me out of the room slowly. There were more guards here than I expected. What is really happening?
We walked towards the hall, and I felt Dejavu, maybe because we've been here before. The first time was a disaster.
Xavier hesitated briefly, as if contemplating. Then he reached for my hand. Heat rushed into me through the hand he was holding.
He turned to look at me and smiled. The smile seemed genuine.
I cleared my throat meaningfully and looked away before I got bewitched.
We stepped inside, and I'm quickly assaulted by different gazes.
I felt tipsy immediately.
Xavier noticed, because he suddenly pulled me closer to himself, making me use him as a pillar while I regained myself again.
He stopped walking, and his hands went around my waist to make it look natural.
“What do you need to prove that this is Gwen?”
No one responded.
Xavier laughed. “What more will be a better clarification than the marking?” He muttered, reached for my hand again, and started forward.
I followed him.
He stopped at the Alpha's stand and turned to look at the Alphas. “Cindy should do the honour, then.”
There was a brief pause before Cindy stepped out. She walked closer to us, bowed slightly, and reached for my clothes.
The Alphas turned around, facing us with their backs.
Cindy pulled down the collar and saw the marking. She stepped back, bowed, and walked back to her place.
The Alphas turned back again.
“She's Gwen!” Cindy announced. “She has the markings.”
Xavier started laughing.
But a different thing was going through my mind. If the markings will suffice, then that means they must have known the fake Gwen would have never been marked or someone told them.
Elixir could have told Philip that I was Autumn and I wasn't marked. Then Philip must have instigated the other Alphas.
So, the person we have been looking for is Philip?
“Who said Gwen wasn't Gwen the other time?” Xavier asked suddenly, in one of his scary voices.
Everyone grunted and groaned, not ready to talk.
Augustine stepped out. “We are very sorry, Alpha. I guess the person was just worried and scared.”
“That's why you had to say I'm impersonating myself?” I asked suddenly, in a loud, clear voice, shocking myself.
Augustine looked at me. “Apologies, your majesty. We are only after your interest, Luna. I will say you should forgive us.”
Augustine is so good with words.
“Good!” Xavier muttered, with a sly smile. He turned to me, his eyes sparkling and a silly smile suddenly coming up on his face.
His left hand went around my waist suddenly, and I was forced to his chest.
What is he doing?
When he tilted his head in, I knew he was going to kiss me, but I couldn't stop him. No, not in front of the Alphas.
What is the Alpha doing, by the way?
