I watched her for a minute, after she had closed her eyes.
Autumn looks so beautiful even when she's asleep. As much as I think she looks like Gwen, there are certain things that differentiate them.
Though I must say I have never seen someone look so identical.
She stirred, and her black hair fell to her face. I reached out and gently placed it behind her ear. It was something I had wanted to do for a while now.
My heart skipped a beat as I watched her again. Just looking at her lips, I had that urge to kiss her again.
That's strange, considering the fact that we've just gone on a round of endless sex.
It merely looked like I'm the one on heat.
I got up quickly and grabbed my trousers from the bed. I put it on and walked out of the room.
There are more urgent matters to attend to.
“Get me Rick immediately,” I ordered as I walked past the men standing guard in front of Autumn's room and headed towards my room.
Could Autumn be right? Could it truly be Philip that kidnapped Gwen?
I walked inside the room, with thoughts curling in my mind in some thoughts of crazy confusion.
I mean, Philip has always been daring, and I had the thought it could be him. But then, knowing the truth now felt very difficult. I mean, could it really be true?
Well, there were facts staring right at me. Philip was the first one to ask about Autumn. He was also the one that started Gwen's matter at the meeting two days ago. It all can't be a mere coincidence.
Then, it's definitely him.
I unconsciously moved to my library and grabbed the bottle of water on the desk. I gulped it all at a go before I stepped out of the room again.
“Send word to Philip. I want him to meet me at the meeting room,” I ordered as I walked towards the meeting room.
I clenched my fists beside me as I walked. If it truly was Philip, I will make him regret ever being born.
I will make sure there's no offspring of him.
I stepped inside the meeting room with anger, as if expecting to meet him.
I know I have to calm down because if Philip entered this moment, I could kill him. I cannot imagine all that Gwen must have gone through at his hands.
But then, if I was not careful enough, I would lose it. I need to know everything before I make a move. Anything I do might determine if I will be getting Gwen alive or not.
The door opened suddenly behind me. I turned around to see Philip walk inside.
He bowed slightly. “You sent for me.”
I huffed and moved closer to him. “Are you angry I killed Autumn instead and didn't give her to you?”
He gathered his brows amazingly. “What are you talking about?”
I found myself complimenting his acting skills. He's really good.
“Why did you bring up the issue of the imposter Gwen two days ago?”
He hesitated briefly and suddenly burst into laughter. “I only did that because there are rumours outside the palace walls. If we don't keep it at bay, it could be disastrous.”
I scoffed. Seriously? Philip was being suspicious; he has always been.
“Well, it looked to me that you were trying to confirm for personal gain. You didn't think I would have the fake Gwen in the palace? You think I don't recognise my wife?” I asked, my voice going higher than it should be.
He didn't say anything.
“Answer me!” I yelled.
I was angry now, and I wasn't even ready to hide it.
Philip cleared his throat meaningfully. “I don't mean to upset you, your majesty. I'm just after your own good.”
Amazing!
“Do you know that?” I stopped briefly, and a dangerous smile crept up at the corner of my mouth. “I can kill you right now.” I met his gaze for a moment. I watched his expression. He seemed a bit scared.
“I can kill everyone and anyone that tries to mess with me, that tries to get in my way! I won't hesitate!” I muttered thickly.
The door opened suddenly, and Rick walked inside. He had this scared expression on his face. He seemed to release a sigh when he saw that I wasn't entirely angry, I think.
I regarded him for a moment before I looked back at Philip.
“My eyes are on you, Philip. The day I have the cause to visit your case, you will hate it. That, I promise you,” I muttered thickly.
“I need to report something to the king,” Rick announced impatiently.
Philip bowed slightly and stepped out of the room.
Rick regarded him for a moment until he was out of the room. He looked back at me with confusion written all over.
“What's happening?”
“What do you have to report?” I asked, ignoring his question.
“Nothing,” he responded.
I should have known. He merely did that so that I could release Philip. That was great, actually, because if Philip had waited any more minutes, I could have killed him.
I grunted, feeling angry at myself. Everything was my fault, actually. I shouldn't have continued my father's legacy. But how was I supposed to know one of his elders would plot my downfall someday?
“You seemed so angry. Did something happen? Besides, you sent for me.”
I nodded once. “Philip took Gwen.”
Rick hesitated for a moment before he exclaimed softly as his face registered shock. “What! But how?”
I swallowed harder as I tried to contain the anger suddenly building up in me again. “Utumn suspects him.”
Rick seemed to release a sigh. Though I don't know if it's out of frustration or he's merely relieved.
“And you believe her? What proof does she have?”
I sucked in breath. “We don't need anyone. Autumn has been right about Elixir. Besides, she must have seen something that made her conclude on that. I mean, she did see Philip meet with Elixir,” I explained.
Rick went quiet for a moment, as if thinking about it. “What do you want us to do now?”
“Keep an eye on him. I want all his movements monitored by you. Don't even miss a second around him.”
Rick nodded once. “I will do that.”
My heart felt heavy suddenly. I wonder what is happening to Gwen at this moment. The thought alone made it difficult for me to breathe properly.
Then I coughed.
I glanced down at the blood in my palm for a moment, and before I could do anything more, the coughing returned.
“Is there anyone out there?” Rick called suddenly and rushed beside me.
I found myself coughing nonstop. It was unbearable, and the strength I used made it impossible for me to continue to keep my stance. I dropped to the floor before I could stop myself.
I felt weak suddenly and felt unconsciousness started to slip in.
What's happening to me!
