“What did I tell you about screaming?” A deep, harsh voice snapped, but I couldn't see the speaker.
I'm suddenly in the dark, but it feels like I've been here for a while now.
A cold shiver ran down my spine. This place feels so familiar yet so strange.
I struggled with the ropes tied to my wrist as an attempt to leave, even though a tiny bit of my mind told me it was impossible. And then there was another thing reminding me of the fact that it wasn't my first time trying.
It seemed like I'm stuck here.
“Please, don't do this,” I beseeched, with tears in my eyes even though I had no idea what I'm begging for.
He advanced closer, 6 feet tall or almost, with a cane in hands. Then I realised I'm naked.
No, that wasn't all. He was naked as well.
Then he hit me with the cane in his hands. It turned out after all that it wouldn't be the first time, as well as scars that marred my body.
“Apart!” He ordered suddenly. His voice was thick and harsh.
The sound of if made my body tinge.
Then he pulled at a rope at my feet, and I marvelled at how my legs pulled apart on their own. Fear entered my features.
“No, please,” my lips trembled.
Another whip, and I felt the blood drain from me.
“You are mine, no matter what you do. You are mine, Gwen!”
I opened my eyes suddenly, my breath coming in fast beat. My gaze searched around me quickly, and I released a sigh of relief when I realised where I was.
The dream I had was frightening. It felt so strange, yet so familiar, as if I were the person in the picture.
What am I saying? The person I saw in the dream was me. The person looked like me. But I have never witnessed such cruelty in my entire life. What Xavier made me pass through was nothing compared to what I saw. Besides, the man referred to me as Gwen.
I closed my eyes mentally. I must have been thinking about Gwen too much recently that I have started to dream about her.
“You think too much anyways,” a voice said in my head.
My heart jolted in my chest suddenly.
My gaze searched around me quickly for where the voice came from.
“Autumn, its I, Riley,” the voice introduced.
I jumped up. What!
Riley?
“You know, I've been waiting for you to be awake since morning.”
I blink once, dazed. I'm never going to get used to having someone talk in my head. It's a new feeling to me, but I love it.
“I don't believe you are finally here!”
That was the truth! I can't believe my wolf is really getting active.
“Me too! I'm excited! There's a lot I don't know about you. We need to catch up!”
I laughed at this. “Well, the one you need to know the most is that our mate.” I stopped almost immediately and released a sigh. “Our mate is our enemy,” I said eventually.
I didn't want her to get too excited about Xavier. What's the essence?
Riley hummed quietly. “But why? He unlocked me. Why is he our enemy?”
“Because he is. We are going to get rejected very soon as well,” I explained. “So, let's just get prepared. You will know the reasons later,” I muttered and stood up to wash.
But wait a minute; that tingling feeling is gone. It felt strange, but I felt like I'm back to normal. Just as I opened the tap, I looked up slightly.
“Riley, are we out of heat?”
“Yes!”
Happiness surged through me. Thank goodness.
“I actually have good news for you,” my wolf said excitedly.
“Yes…”
“We will most likely shift in the next two to three weeks.”
That's good news indeed. I can't wait!
“Autumn!” a soft, yet familiar voice called suddenly. I recognised it everywhere. It was Mercury.
I switched off the tap and moved out almost as she moved in. She must have heard the running tap.
“The elders want to see you,” she revealed. “They said it's about what you asked them to prepare.”
They must have gotten them ready.
I'm getting a lot of good news today. And it makes me so happy.
“Then I should wash up so we can meet them,” I announced happily and moved back to the bathroom. I stopped almost immediately and turned to Mercury again.
I released a sigh, fighting the emotions building up inside me. As much as I think about it, I don't deserve to be the new Alpha of the moon-like pack.
“Is everything alright?” Mercury asked.
I nodded once. “I just feel I'm not in the position to see these people; I mean, not even as their Alpha. I've failed at it.”
Mercury gathered her brows. “Did something happen? What is making you think like that?”
I released a long sigh and looked at her. “I went on heat; you know what that means? I've been with the Alpha for over two days now. I feel ashamed of myself.”
“Well, it's nothing to be ashamed of,” she shrugged briefly. “As much as I'm concerned, it's your nature. It has nothing to do with your potential.”
“Alpha Xavier is my enemy,” I emphasised. “It felt like I betrayed my people.”
“Well, I don't see it like that. Alpha Xavier can be your enemy, but he's your mate, and he marked you. Marking you might truly be based on a plan of his, but I just think this is the consequence of being marked.”
I cracked. “You mean punishment?”
“Actually, it's a blessing. You said only King Xavier can activate your wolf. Well, whatever he does shouldn't be a problem. Just think it's a procedure he has to take for your wolf to be active.”
It looks like Mercury is right after all. I'm able to talk with my wolf now. What if the heat was what I needed?
I closed my eyes and released another long sigh.
“If you keep blaming yourself, you won't move on.”
But that wasn't the only thing that happened.
“I killed someone two days ago when I was preventing Xavier from entering my room. I've not been able to think clearly because of it as well.” I opened my eyes and stared at Mercury to see her expression. She wasn't surprised like I thought she would. “I killed an innocent maid. What does that make me?”
“The greatest Alpha I have ever known. Even people like Alpha Xavier do misuse their powers, but that wasn't what happened to you. You killed her unintentionally. You shouldn't blame yourself for it, honestly. That's how a great Alpha should think.”
I pulled Mercury into a hug suddenly.
“Thank you so much. I can't imagine how I would have been able to successfully pass this stage without you in my life.”
“It's my pleasure, Autumn. I personally think you will be a great Alpha.”
I pulled back after a moment. “I need to get dressed.”
Mercury nodded once, with a smile. “I will find you a dress while you shower.”
I nodded once and walked back to the bathroom.
I opened the shower and closed my eyes against the water.
The dream I had earlier came to my mind. This wasn't actually the first time I would be seeing myself in different places as if I were in another dimension.
Could it really be that I'm merely thinking too much? But if it's not that, then what can it be?
It has to be that I'm thinking too much.
Within minutes, I was done. I stepped inside the room, and Mercury was by the bed.
“I got you some nice dresses, but I didn't know which one you would like to settle for.”
My gaze shifted to the clothes on the bed. “Actually, I will be fine with anyone you choose for me.”
Mercury smiled softly. “Then you should go with this!” She decided happily and raised a blue dress.
“My pleasure!” I cracked, and Mercury burst into laughter.
In the next few minutes, we stepped out, walking towards the hut where I had met the elders the other time.
Some men ran past me suddenly. I stopped almost immediately as I remembered the path actually led to Xavier's room. Could something be wrong?
“Is something wrong?”
Mercury regarded the men for a while. “I have no idea, but a lot of people have been rushing towards the King's room.”
What could be the issue? Maybe the Alpha has something to tell him again.
I nodded once. “Find out what has happened. I will meet with the elders alone.”
Mercury nodded once, bowed slightly, and started to walk in the same direction that the men ran in a few minutes ago. I watched her for a moment before I started out of the hallway.
There were no guards around at all. Whatever was happening at Xavier’s place was a perfect thing to happen at this time. It looks like everyone is indisposed.
I entered the hut, and the elders bowed immediately. They seemed to have been waiting for me for a while.
“How are you, Alpha?” it was Frederick that asked.
June didn't follow them this time around.
I nodded once, with a smile. I have good news for them, actually. But I won't tell them now, until I am able to shift. That's the best evident, isn't it?
“I'm doing good. I hope the rest are as well.”
Ben nodded once. “Everyone is alive even though they are suffering. But they are patiently waiting for their Alpha.”
“Yes, that's right. We are here because we've gotten the maids ready,” Jude revealed.
I nodded once. “Good.”
“And there's someone that wants to see you,” Ben said quickly.
I looked up on cue, and my eyes widened with surprise as I stared up at Dylan. I didn't expect that.
I'm sorry for not posting earlier. I totally forgot.
