                    What!
My head reeled.
“I thought they left already.”
Mercury slowly shook her head, her face forming into a sad expression. “They have been taken to the dungeon. And currently, I heard the Alphas are meeting to decide their fate.”
Shock kept me motionless and speechless for a moment.
“What do we do, Autumn? I'm so certain that the Alphas aren't going to spare them, not even now that we are certain that one of them is actually the one that kidnapped Gwen.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but it looked like the words were stuck in my throat.
Just how did it happen? Everything was supposed to go smoothly.
“Give me words, and I will do everything in my power to get them out,” Mercury said suddenly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
My eyes widened as my mind settled on something. “My parents!”
I hurried over to where I left them last night, hoping and praying to the moon goddess that they were fine.
A headache had set in when I knocked on the door and no one answered. Just then, the door opened, and my father peeped out.
I released a sigh of relief and got inside, though I was still agitated and scared.
“Autumn! What happened?” My mom's scared voice asked me.
I released another sigh. “I thought you were taken.”
My father raised a sceptical brow. “Taken? Did something happen?”
I nodded once, as I felt the whole thing taking down on me.
I released another sigh. The rate at which I'm doing that is alarming.
“We were attacked yesterday, so I could only make it back today,” I explained.
My mother took a step closer. “Are you alright?” She asked worriedly.
I took a step backwards unconsciously. “That's not the important thing,” I muttered and met my mother's gaze for a moment. “The moon-like pack were taken to the dungeon, and their fate will be decided soon.”
“What!”
“I know, dad,” I said quickly. “It's my fault. I told them we could leave. I even had to choose between saving Xavier and leaving with them. And I will make things right, mom,” I promised and looked at Dad. “I will,” I swore. “Just stay here till I come back. Be safe till then.”
Father nodded once. “Alright.”
My mom moved closer to me. She was_sad. She pulled me into a hug. “Be safe. Come back home to me.”
I stepped out of the room and took a deep breath. I got sweaty hands suddenly. But I need to do what I must.
Mercury turned to me. “Are they alright?”
I nodded once. “They are. Let's go see the elders first.”
Mercury bowed slightly and led the way. We walked faster.
But what could have happened? The King is still unconscious, and I know that Rick wouldn't have done that. If he had, he would have been having that meeting with the other Alphas.
We walked out of the hallway and into the dungeon. Mercury moved ahead of us, leading me.
She stopped in front of one of the prisons and turned to me. “We are here.”
My legs wobbled underneath me as I stared for a moment before I finally moved closer.
Dylan was the first person I saw. “Dylan!”
Dylan turned to me, shocked and hurried to me. “Autumn!”
“Where did you go? We waited for you yesterday!” June said suddenly.
I looked at her, and my heart felt heavy inside my chest.
“I'm sorry!” I muttered.
“You shouldn't do that!” Ben said suddenly angrily. “We waited for you, and you deceived us.”
“Calm down,” Frederick said suddenly and moved closer to us. “Something is wrong somewhere, if you will ask me.”
I looked at him but didn't say a word; I couldn't even say anything; I didn't even know what to say.
“It felt like they were waiting for us.”
“Yes!” June added. “It felt like someone set a trap for us, and we walked into that trap. At that moment, I was happy you didn't come with us. If you had come with us, you would have been captured with us.”
I was lost. “I don't understand.”
“We were attacked. They were waiting for us just as we walked out of the palace walls. It felt like someone knew we were leaving.”
The only person that told us to leave was Rick. Could Rick be the one? No, he can't be. He got occupied already. There's no way.
Some guards walked in suddenly.
They bowed slightly and started to lead the people out.
“Where are you taking them?”
“Well, we've received an order from the Alpha. We are to assemble them at the torture field and await further instructions,” one of the men explained.
Mercury looked at me, with worries written all over her face. “Luna.”
I walked out of the dungeon without another word. My mind was made up already. If Xavier can't wake up, I will have to do something. I can't just watch them kill my pack members. I can't and won't.
Mercury blocked my path when we reached the meeting room.
“What are you about to do?”
“Anything that will save them. I know the Alphas are currently planning on killing them. I won't allow it.”
She nodded once. “But no matter what, don't declare you have anything to do with them, or they would rope you in as well.”
I nodded at her.
The guards opened the door, and I walked inside.
The Alphas hesitated at the sight of me. Then they bowed slightly.
“I heard you are making a decision concerning the moon-like pack.”
“Not so. We have already decided.” It was Philip that responded. “The moon-like pack will be eliminated.”
I felt something tighten in my throat.
“You shouldn't make a decision behind the king's back. Not when the King is sick.”
“Not so, actually,” Marcus said suddenly, stepping out of his line. “Deciding the fate of slaves that ran away doesn't always require the permission of the King. That aside, the Alpha was poisoned, obviously by the moon-like pack.”
“Yes!” Ingeus added quickly. “The witches have been eradicated during Alpha Stephen's reign. The only people that can have access to such poison that was used on the King is the Luna of the Moon-like pack. That's why they deserve death.”
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
“You can't be certain that they truly poisoned him. And I still think you should let the king wake up before you decide their fate.”
“Not so!” Augustine yelled suddenly, shocking me for a moment. He looked up at me, a dark frown on his face. “The King has been poisoned, and we don't even know if he's going to survive it! And you want us to spare the people that poisoned him?”
Then everything started to make sense.
They poisoned the Alpha and wanted to get me. They knew I would have wanted to leave. Someone knew I wasn't Gwen, and that person knew I was from the moon-like pack.
They set us up.
I clenched my fists beside me so tight that it turned white. Hot anger coursed through me.
I can't. I just can't let them kill my pack members. I have to do something about it!
The door opened suddenly, and my attention got divided.
My heart skipped a beat as I thought it could be Rick. No one has the right to walk in on the Alphas whenever they are having meetings.
Maybe Rick wants to help me, or maybe he was the one that imprisoned my people.
My eyes widened with shock when Xavier walked inside instead.
