“What the fuck is happening here?” He yelled, his voice sounding like thunder to my ears. He looked so angry, he sounded so angry. The last time he was this angry was when he was questioning me about Gwen.
But this time around, it was different. The Alpha was angry because of me. That's strange!
Everyone stared, shocked as much as I am. Xavier is the last person I want to see. Not that I don't want to see him. I mean, he's the only one that can solve this issue.
But how is he here? He didn't even open his eyes the last time I was at his place. How is he awake?
“I just need an answer to my question. Why were you making decisions behind my back? I was sick. I was poisoned! You guys could have tried to find out who poisoned me!”
Marcus stepped out. “My king, it's the moon-like pack. They poisoned you.”
Xavier glared at Marcus that he was forced to step back into the line.
“Really?” He cracked and looked at Philip. “Do you think so as well, Philip? That the moon-like pack poisoned me?”
Philip nodded once. “Yes, your majesty. Only the moon-like pack has access to the poison after your father has eradicated all the witches. Well, he spared one. The Luna of the Moon-like pack. She could have poisoned you for killing her only daughter.”
Their explanation actually seemed feasible. If I didn't know better, I would have believed them.
Xavier looked at me for a moment, his expression still cold. And at that moment, I didn't know if those glares were directed at me or at the Alphas. Does he believe them?
He suddenly burst into laughter.
“Yes, Alpha,” Ingeus said suddenly. “The moon-like pack poisoned you and tried to run. That's why they deserve to die.”
Xavier ignored him and walked to Augustine.
As I've heard, Augustine is Xavier's friend. He was the only one among the Alphas that could confidently say he was a true friend of the King.
“What do you think, Augustine?” He asked softly, as if out of breath. “Did you also admit such a decision should be made behind my back?”
Augustine regarded him for a moment as if thinking of what to say. He actually seemed glad to see Xavier.
“You were dying, Xavier. I thought I was going to lose you. We all thought we were going to lose you!” He said it in a voice full of emotion. “All facts point at the moon-like pack. They poisoned you.”
Xavier looked away for a moment. When he looked up again, there was a look of disappointment on his face. He was disappointed, but at who?
The door opened again, and Rick walked inside with a maid. He kicked her so hard that she fell to the floor. The maid looked up slowly, and there were bruises on her face. Her clothes were stained with blood, and her hair was rough.
If I don't know more, I will say she has undergone some series of tortures.
Xavier stepped back. “This is the maid that poisoned me!” He announced.
Everyone looked up, shocked.
That was another shock for today.
But how did he find her?
“She's yet to say who sent her, but she will be tortured hard. I will make sure I get the information out of her and kill everyone involved in this conspiracy!” He announced in a deep voice.
Rick pulled the maid up and led her out.
Everyone went silent. No one could talk. Who could have expected the Alpha to find the culprit so fast? Besides, wasn't the Alpha sick?
Everything looks so unreal.
“So, that means the moon-like pack is innocent. They didn't poison me.”
“But what if they were the ones that sent the maid?” Marcus said suddenly. “I mean, you are yet to find out who made the maid do it.”
Another angle. Why are the Alphas like this?
“Well, you didn't bother asking me how I'm able to be here now?”
Wait, what?
A smile appeared on his lips. “One of the Moon-like packs offered to get me the antidote. She arrived this morning,” he explained and looked up at me, as if acknowledging me. “When she told me she could get me the herbs, I was so shocked that she would try to save me. She was supposed to kill me.” His voice went deeper as he spoke, and his eyes were not leaving mine.
My heart thumped madly at my chest.
“I was shocked as to why she would want to save me instead of killing me. So, I gave them permission to leave.” He finally looked away and focused on one of the Alphas.
I released the breath I didn't even know I was holding.
“So, I was the one that told them they could leave. They didn't run away. And now! I have decreed that the moon-like pack should be free. They can return to their packhouse.”
“What!”
“No! You can't let them go! They tried to harm Gwen. Was that not why you imprisoned them?”
“They tried to harm her, but they didn't kill her, did they?” He demanded and waited. When no one responded, he looked up at me. “Gwen, what do you think? Should we let them go? I mean, they tried to harm you, but they just saved me.”
What! What is Xavier doing?
Every gaze turned towards me instantly.
I released a sigh and walked towards Xavier, only stopping when we were just two feet apart.
“The moon-like pack just showed they would not like to continue having Xavier as their enemy. They might have tried to hurt me in the past, but they just saved the King. That's a huge bonus! They should be released.”
Xavier smiled softly and finally looked away. “Who has something else to say concerning it?”
Everyone started to clear their throats.
“But why were they leaving in the night?” Ingeus asked softly.
The glare Xavier gave him was enough to last him for eternity. “Because I released them last night. Apparently, they couldn't wait. Any more questions?” The question was laced with coldness.
For a moment, no one could speak.
“Who the fuck started this meeting?” Xavier thundered, and it seemed like his anger just doubled.
“Xavier, please_we_” Augustine started to say.
“Leave!” Xavier said curtly, shutting him off. “Leave! Everyone of you!” He yelled again, deeply.
Everyone hurried out of the meeting room.
I was shocked beyond words. Did Xavier just save us?
He looked at me again when all the Alphas had left. “Let your parents follow the moon-like pack.”
I shook my head briefly, finally finding my voice. “The moon-like pack will still be in the pack until the main culprit is found. We will not be able to avoid the trap laid for us again, like it happened the first time, but they will live here freely.”
Xavier nodded once, and a smile grazed his lips. Then, his eyes closed suddenly, and he fainted towards me.
I was quick to catch him before he would hit his head on the floor.
